Rebel Óg County Minor Football Championship – Semi-Final
Newcestown 1-8 Glenville 0-9
Glenville’s brave County Minor Semi-Final bid came to an end on Monday evening in Bishopstown after a spirited battle against a strong Newcestown side.
Having led for most of the opening half, Glenville looked the sharper outfit early on, moving the ball well and taking some fine scores to build a 0-5 to 0-0 advantage. However, a fortuitous Newcestown goal right on the stroke of half-time narrowed the margin to just two points at the break, Glenville 0-5 to 1-0.
The second half was a hard-fought affair, with both sides trading scores in a tense finish. Despite Glenville’s relentless effort and strong defensive work, Newcestown managed to edge ahead in the closing stages. Glenville pressed to the final whistle, but just fell short by two points, 1-8 to 0-9.
Every Glenville player gave an immense performance — from Cathal Sheehan’s composure in goal, to a determined full-back line of Adam Casey, Billy Ryan, and Zach Curtin, who stood firm throughout. Conor McHugh (JC), Seán O’Leary, and Seán Callanan were solid across half-back, breaking forward whenever possible.
Midfielders Eoghan Forde and Shayne Curtin (JC) worked tirelessly, linking play and driving Glenville forward, while the attacking six of Tadhg McCarthy, Jack Counihan, Josh Madden, David Barry, Mike O’Riordan, and Jayden Hennebry battled for every ball and took some excellent scores under pressure.
Credit also to the full panel — Adam Hennessy, Rio Horgan, Dylan McCarthy, Louie Guichard, Daniel O’Connor, Will Manley, Gearoid Fitzgerald, Fergal Duffy, Jack Long, Harry Wain, Eolann Hartnett, and Dara O’Neill — all of whom played their part in a strong campaign.
A word of appreciation too for the management and coaching team of Peter Curtin (Manager), Eamon Counihan (Coach), and selectors Pat McHugh, Kevin Barry, Shane McCarthy, and Paul Casey, with Mike Ryan handling stats. Their guidance and commitment have been outstanding all year.
Though the result didn’t go Glenville’s way, this group can take great pride in their performances and the progress made throughout the season. The future is bright for Glenville football.
U10 Glenville / Watergrasshill – Final Training Session of the Year

Their striking, catching, tackling and teamwork have all come on in leaps and bounds — a credit to the effort they’ve put in week after week.
A huge thank-you to our brilliant coaches for their time, dedication and patience all season. The energy, encouragement and guidance you give these young players make all the difference — helping them grow in confidence and skill while keeping the fun at the heart of every session.
Thanks also to all the parents and families for your support throughout the year — from getting the lads to training and matches to cheering them on from the sidelines in all kinds of weather. Your commitment helps make this combined Glenville and Watergrasshill group such a success.
It’s been wonderful to see the friendships, teamwork and sporting spirit develop as the season went on. The improvement in every player has been brilliant to watch — great credit is due to the boys for their attitude and effort all year.
Well done lads — you’ve earned your break! Enjoy the off-season, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in 2026 for another great year of hurling and football.
