MIDLETON 1-8 FR. O’NEILLS 0-26
It’s that time of the year again as the U-21 hurling championships get up and running. In a change from last year, all U-21 hurling grades this year are being played on a knockout basis and not in a group format as they were last year. Our U-21 hurling management team for this year is Liam O’Keeffe (Manager) and selectors, Padraig O’Shea, Aidan Ryan, Cillian Hurley, Coleman Quinn and Ger Lawton.
First into action on Saturday last in Castlemartyr were our U-21 B team, to take on Fr. O’Neill’s first team.
We got off to the perfect start when Senan Carroll had the ball in the net early on but O’Neills stormed back and by the end of the opening quarter it was the Ladysbridge/Ballymacoda outfit who led by 0-6 to 1-0.
Magpie points from Scott Dunlea, Niall Lang and Josh Hogan followed but at the half-time break we trailed on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-3.
We added second-half points from Darragh Egan (0-3), Josh Hogan and Dara Scanlon but on the day Fr. O’Neills were much the better team and deservedly ran out convincing winners on a final scoreline of 0-26 to 1-8.
Despite the result, every Midleton player gave it 100% and tried all the way to the final whistle against a strong O’Neills side.
Our A team have received a bye into the semi-finals, where we will meet the winners of the Carrigtwohill v Sarsfields quarter-final. They are down to play on October 25, with no date yet for our semi-final.
Midleton scorers: Senan Carroll 1-0, Darragh Egan 0-3, Josh Hogan 0-2 (0-1 F), Scott Dunlea, Niall Lang and Dara Scanlon 0-1 each.
MIDLETON: Zach Smith, Adam O’Connor, Max Murphy, Odhran Dennigan, Lochlann Stewart, Sean McSharry, Josh Hogan, Darragh Egan, Nicky Coughlan, Dara Scanlon (Captain), Niall Lang, Tadhg Bohan, James McSweeney, Scott Dulea, Senan Carroll. Juvenile
Last Friday evening our 2007 hurlers completed their juvenile Magpie’s journey. It began in the Community Centre way back in 2012 and finished in a County Final defeat last Friday evening. Our journey wearing the Midleton jersey has been something special. Over the course of our competitive hurling and football leagues, championships and tournaments which started in 2019, the lads competed in 14 hurling and football finals. We have lost much more than what we have won, but the most important thing we went through it as a group. The unwavering commitment to the black and white jersey has been incredible from the lads. We have travelled far and wide to play and compete in our famed jersey and never stood down from any challenge that was presented to us. We have had also unbelievable support from parents who travelled with us every step of the way. To John, Ronan, Alan, Brendan and Ed, thanks for all the help and support to myself and the lads throughout the years. To the Juvenile committee, the work that goes on behind the scenes is fantastic and again thanks for all the help down through the years from past and present members who gave advice along the way. The lads now go into the adult section of the club and hopefully will continue to play for many years to come. Well done again lads, Magpies ABU.

Fe15
After a few weeks without games but with good training going on we had a busy few days. On Tuesday the 7th we hosted Ballincollig in the P1 league semi final on the 3G in Park South. A very determined effort from the lads against a very good Ballincollig helped us to a come from behind victory by the minimum. While a great victory we also learned we have a lot to work on after this tough encounter.
On the back of that victory we participated in the P1 league final on Saturday against Ballinora. A big crowd turned out at the very well turned out Blarney venue to see a fantastic game with a very high standard of hurling . In a repeat of the Feile final which the teams could only be separated by a “golden point” this game ebbed and flowed with great performances all over the field. While the lads did put in a great effort, Ballinora got the goals at vital times they claimed victory on the day despite being under extreme Midleton pressure in the final moments of the game. Unlucky lads but we will have to shake ourselves down quickly as we will be participating with two teams in both upcoming hurling and football championships. No time to mull over anything just get back training and as this year’s championship is straight knockout we will have to hit the ground running.
Congratulations to the fe 16s on their recent successes. Helped in no small part by a good share of our lads. Also thanks to all the fe 14s who have greatly enhanced our training sessions. They have and will be very important to our championship ambitions.
Best of luck to the seniors on Sunday. The whole town will be behind ye.

Fé12 Group 2 Hurling Cup Final - Midleton 1-10 v St. Colman’s 1-06
Midleton’s Fé12 hurlers brought their 2025 season to a thrilling close last weekend with a hard-earned
1-10 to 1-06 victory over St. Colman’s in the Group 2 Hurling Cup final, played in front of a large and
vocal crowd in Glenville. Having fallen to the same opposition earlier in the summer, Midleton
approached the final with clear determination — and their focus was evident from the outset. A strong
first-half performance laid the foundations, with well-taken points from Oran Byrne, Ben Walsh,
Matthew Greene, and Conall Cody. In defence, Kalvin O’Brien, James Daly O’Regan & goalkeeper
Luke Dunlea were defiant throughout, while forwards John Murphy and Tiernan Carroll worked
tirelessly to keep the pressure on St. Colman’s. At the break, Midleton held a deserved 0-06 to 0-03
lead. As expected, St. Colman’s came out with intent in the second half and gradually reduced the
deficit. However, Midleton responded with renewed intensity, led by a powerful midfield display from
Darragh Grant and Conor Cantwell. This platform allowed Ben Walsh and Matthew Greene to notch
up further scores, extending the lead to 0-10 to 0-05 entering the final quarter. A key moment came
when Dylan Cashman made a crucial clearance from defence, finding full-forward Matthew Greene,
who finished calmly to the net for the game’s first goal. Although St. Colman’s struck back with a late
penalty, the Midleton lads held firm. In the closing minutes, strong contributions from Kian Davis, Finn
Harrington, and Olan Connolly, along with composed team defending, saw the young Magpies repel
several dangerous attacks. When the final whistle eventually sounded, there were jubilant scenes as
Midleton celebrated a well-deserved and hard-fought Cup final victory.
Scorers: Matthew Greene 1-02, Ben Walsh 0-05 (0-03 frees), Oran Byrne 0-02, Conall Cody 0-01
The panel on the day consisted of: Luke Dunlea, Dylan Cashman, Kalvin O’Brien, Olan Connolly, Kian
