CO-OP SUPERSTORES PREMIER SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL OCT 5TH 2025

MIDLETON 0-29 BLACKROCK 1-25

(AFTER EXTRA-TIME)

What a game! What a win!

On Sunday last our senior hurlers travelled to Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh to take on Blackrock in the semi-finals of the Premier Senior Hurling Championship on a lovely day for hurling.

We got off to a very slow start and found ourselves 0-4 to 0-0 down in no time at all.

Conor Lehane (free) and Cormac Walsh struck back to half the deficit before Alan Connolly found the Midleton net to see the Rockies lead by 1-4 to 0-2 after just seven minutes.

After struggling to get to the pitch of the game in the opening quarter, the Magpies came more and more into it in the second period and four more points from Conor Lehane and one each from the Cormacs, Walsh and Beausang saw us trail by five at the half-time whistle on a score of 1-10 to 0-8.

The Magpies made two changes at the break with Luke O’Farrell and Evan McGrath being summoned from the bench. Luke got off to a flyer when he scored with his first touch to cut the deficit to four but by the 39th minute the gap was five again, 1-12 to 0-10, it was six moments later.

But this team doesn’t do panic and you always felt that they would find a way back into the game, as they did in the quarter-final win over Glen Rovers. And boy did they.

We scored 11 points in the first 41 minutes and 12 points from there to the full-time whistle.

Pa White led the charge with six fantastic second-half points (five in the final quarter). Conor Lehane, Mikey Finn, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes and Killian McDermott were also on the scoresheet as Midleton cut the gap to two by the 51st minute (1-15 to 0-16).

The sides were level at 1-19 to 0-22 on 61 minutes and then Midleton struck the front once more before Alan Connolly took the game to extra-time with a late ‘65 to leave the scores level at 1-20 to 0-23 after 60 plus breathtaking minutes of hurling.

Extra-time points from Conor Lehane, Pa White and David Cremin saw the Magpies lead by three at half-time in extra-time but back came the Rockies and as the game went over 80 minutes at the end of the extra period the sides were level again and penalties loomed large on the horizon until we were awarded a free deep in stoppage time.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man and up stepped Conor Lehane to swing it over from a difficult angle, against the wind to see us win by a single point after a thrilling encounter.

A fantastic win, well done to all involved.

A special mention to Eoin Moloney who picked up a nasty injury and we wish him the very best in his recovery.

All this means that we are now preparing for our third county final at this grade in five seasons, where we will take on Sarsfields (for the third year in a row) in the final on Sunday week (October 19) in Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 3.15pm.

It will be preceded by the County PIHC final between Ballincollig and Ballinhassig.

Scorers for Midleton: Conor Lehane 0-13 (0-7 f, 0-2 ‘65), Pa White 0-7, Cormac Walsh, David Cremin 0-2 each, Cormac Beausang, Luke O’Farrell, Mikey  Finn, Killian McDermott, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes 0-1 each.

Camogie

Under 11’s:

Our U11s hosted a fantastic home blitz on our fabulous new astro in Park South on Sunday 5th of Oct welcoming two strong teams from Lisgoold and Youghal. Both games were tough and competitive, giving players from all sides a great opportunity to showcase the skills they’ve been developing throughout the season. There was plenty of fun, teamwork, and healthy competition on display, making it an enjoyable and memorable day for everyone involved.

Under 12’s:

Last game of the season for our U12s on Saturday 4th of Oct. We travelled the long road to Clonakilty to play in our league final. A bright but blustery day made it hard for striking but the girls did their best in the first half.
Every ball was hard fought as the Clon girls made nothing easy for us.
Using the skills they’ve been perfecting, hand passing, soloing, teamwork and determination the Midleton girls pulled ahead just before half time. We managed to stay ahead in the second half and at the final whistle we were delighted to be leaving Clon with the win.
The transformation of this team since the start of the season has been great to watch and we’re all very proud of them.

Under 13’s:

Our U13 girls played in the semi final of the 14b championship on Sat 4th of Oct against a strong Sarsfields team. From the first to the last whistle - playing with and against strong winds, the girls showed strength, grit, skill and tremendous team work to come away with a great win and earn a place for themselves in the final. These girls really stood up and did what was asked of them by the coaches today and we can be nothing but proud of their efforts. We await a date for the final in the next few weeks. Well done to Emily for captaining the team today.

Under 14’s:

Our u14 girls were competing in the P2 County Semi Final that was moved from Friday to Saturday 4th of Oct due to weather conditions. While a strong wind was still there, a great game of camogie was on display. Playing with the wind in the first half Midleton led 1-8 to 0-6. All the girls working for each other with some great scores. Playing into the wind in the second half the girls dug deep and gave all they could. Moving into the 60th minute the sides were equal 2-10 a piece. Milford got a flurry of scores to finish the game. Milford 2-13 Midleton 2-10. Well done to Aoibhinn who captained the side today and to Milford for hosting us. Everyone is extremely proud of the girls performance today and throughout the championship stages.
