Glenville U12s Crowned Shield Champions
There were great celebrations in Glenville on Saturday morning as our U12 footballers produced a superb display to defeat Douglas in the Rebel Óg Shield Final.
From the throw-in the Glenville boys showed real determination and teamwork, with strong performances across every line of the field. The forwards took their chances well, the midfield worked tirelessly, and the defence stood firm against a skilful Douglas attack.
It was a contest played in an excellent spirit, and when the final whistle sounded Glenville were worthy winners, claiming the Shield title after a committed and skilful team effort.
The club extends warm congratulations to all the players and their coaches for their dedication throughout the year, and to the parents and supporters who travelled to cheer on the team in this memorable victory.
Great Day for Glenville U11s at John Galvin Tournament
Glenville’s U11 hurlers and footballers enjoyed a superb day out at the annual John Galvin Memorial Tournament hosted by Bishopstown on Saturday.
The competition format saw each game split into two halves — one of hurling and one of football — providing a real test of versatility for all teams involved. Glenville faced Ardfert, Cahir, Bishopstown, Inniscarra and Donoughmore in the group stages, recording three fine wins along the way. Those results were enough to secure a place in the Shield Final, where the lads put in a mighty effort but were just edged out by Inniscarra after a tight contest.
The club extends sincere thanks to Bishopstown GAA for the invitation, warm welcome and generous hospitality, which included refreshments for players and supporters throughout the day.
A special word of praise goes to Glenville’s three U10 representatives — Killian Mc, Harry S and Charlie D — who lined out for the U11s having already played their own blitz that morning. Their commitment, along with that of all players, parents and coaches, was remarkable and greatly appreciated.
Overall, it was a memorable occasion for the Glenville boys, who continue to represent the club with great skill and spirit in both hurling and football.
Glenville Progress to Junior B Semi-Final After Group Stage Success
Glenville 1-8 (11)
St Catherine’s 3-7 (16)
Glenville played their fourth and final round robin Junior B Championship game on Sunday, losing to St Catherine’s, but having won their first three games, finished second in the group and secure a semi-final position.
The game started slowly with the first score of the game coming after eleven minutes with a point by Catherine’s, who quickly added a goal, before Bily Ryan scored an exceptional goal to bring the margin back to the minimum. Catherine’s added a further 1-2 before Dylan Roche added a point for Glenville. Catherine’s added a further point and just before half-time, Pa Cronin got a point for Glenville, to see Glenville behind at half-time by five points on the scoreline of 1-2 to 2-4.
A much better Glenville performance in the second half saw Shayne Curtin quickly score a point from a free and Glenville were building momentum. However a free converted by Catherine’s, followed by a goal widened the gap and despite Glenville’s best efforts with two more Dylan Roche points and a point a piece from Shayne Curtin, Conor Gowen and Sean O’Leary, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide, and the game ended Glenville 1-8 to St Catherine’s 3-7. Glenville now Ballinacurra in the East Cork Junior B semi-final.

Glenville U13s Battle Bravely in Shield Final
Best of Luck to Our Minors
Best of luck to the Glenville Fe18 footballers who face Erins Own this Saturday, October 4th, at 5.00pm in Mayfield in the Rebel Óg East Division 1 Football Championship. The very best wishes to the players and management team – we encourage all our supporters to get behind the lads and show your colours!
Hard luck to our U13 footballers who gave everything in the Rebel Óg Shield Final against Mitchelstown, played in Na Piarsaigh on Sunday.
It was a tight and fiercely contested game that remained in the balance right up to the closing stages, with Glenville showing huge commitment and determination throughout. Despite their best efforts, the lads were narrowly beaten in the end but can be very proud of both their performance on the day and their efforts across the season.
The club extends thanks to the full panel, coaches, and parents for their dedication over the year. Heads can be held high after a fine campaign. Glenville Abú!
Reminder on Re-Turn Bin Use
Glenville GAA would like to sincerely thank everyone who has been supporting our Juvenile Section by using the orange Re-Turn bins at the club grounds. The scheme has proven to be a very valuable fundraiser for our young players.
Unfortunately, some bags recently contained bottles and cans that had not been emptied, leading to spills and damage when transported. To avoid this happening again, we kindly ask that all bottles and cans placed in the bins are completely emptied of liquids before being deposited. Please ensure items carry the Re-Turn logo, are capped if possible, and that no general rubbish is included.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated and helps to make a real difference for the next generation of Glenville players.
Glenville GAA Launches Rounders Section
There was a great buzz in Glenville on Sunday morning as the club’s brand-new Rounders section held another very successful training session. Numbers are growing steadily, and it was fantastic to see players of all ages giving the game a go.
Rounders is one of the four official GAA sports, and is a fun, fast-paced and very inclusive game — easy to learn, beginner-friendly, and enjoyable for both men and women. It’s often compared to baseball or softball, with teams scoring by hitting the ball and running the bases.
The Glenville players are now looking forward to their first outing next weekend, when they will take part in a tournament in Mallow. This promises to be an exciting step forward for the club as Rounders begins to take root locally.
New members are always very welcome, whether you’ve played before or are completely new to the sport. To find out more or to get involved, please contact John on 085 7102290.
