Under 12 Hurlers win the Cup.
Rebel Óg East Under 12 Hurling Group 3 Cup Final.
Castlelyons 4-5 Bride Rovers 2-2.
We hit for the top of Silverheights in Mayfield on Sunday to play Bride Rovers in the hurling U12 Group Three East Cup Final. The game was on in the second pitch as part of a suite of Under 12 Cup and Shield hurling finals. Credit to Rebel Óg who just charged €5 in and had a programme as well. The day was dry and sunny with a little wind chill from a moderate northern breeze blowing down field. Castlelyons played against wind for the first half Bride Rovers attacked from the start and were unlucky as they struck a few wides. Our backs done well with Robbie Wallace, Rian Fitzgerald and Cian O’Donovan all dropping back to help. Gradually we got into the game and Cian O’Donovan was fouled coming through and put over the free. Then Darragh McCarthy was fouled, and Cian went for a goal, but it was saved and after a goalmouth scramble Cian was on hand again to bang in the sliotar for a goal.
Darragh McCarthy was on the end of another attack to pull first time to the net and put us up 2-1 to 0-0 on fifteen minutes. We defended well again for a few minutes and then with Robbie Milward and Liam Martin working hard they forced a sixty-five, but it was cleared. We had to do some serious defending at times as the Rovers pressed hard and were rewarded with a point. Tommy Barry made a great save in goal and cleared under pressure. Sean McCarthy sent in a high ball then and Bobby Hosford was on the end of it to fetch well and slam to the net and we led 3-1 to 0-1 on the short whistle.
The second half was tense early on while we hurled towards Cork harbour with the wind to our backs it was Bride Rovers who really put on the pressure. Tommy Barry saved well in goal for us and Robbie Milward grabbed a good ball and was fouled and the way out. But the Rovers came again, and this time Sean Ekechukwu cleared as Tommy went down injured in goal, but he recovered fast. Rian Fitzgerald hurling well all day got possession and scored a massive point over his shoulder to give the lads confidence. Back came the Rovers and this time their No 12 Jack Roddis got in for a cracking goal to give them a lifeline. Cian O’Donovan sent in a long free and Darren McCarthy was on hand with a ground shot to the net and Rian Fitzgerald sent over a beauty from out in the wing leaving it 4-3 to 1-1.
However, Bride Rovers showed character and got on top a bit once again, but great defending kept them scoreless. They were rewarded with a 21-yard free, and their captain Tiernan Lyons sent a rocket to the net. The score was now 4-3 to 2-1 midway through the second half and very exciting. However, we settled into the game again and Cian O’Donovan who was playing so well won a free far out in the sideline and sent it over. Then Sean Ekechukwu sent a good ball cross field as Rian Fitzgerald fetched excellently but was grounded. Although the referee had the hand up for a free Rian was up again to knock over a mighty point. The Rovers attack found it hard to score against our backline and their only score was a point by their No 24 Robbie Scanlon as the game ground to an end with Castlelyons winning 4-5 to 2-2. After the game Donal Hurley, Chairperson of Rebel Óg East spoke and presented the Cup to a deserving captain in Robbie Wallace.
Both teams rotated players and the referee Cathal McAllister contributed to a good game with common sense decisions and letting it flow. Well done to all our panel and the management Declan Wallace, Michael O’Donovan, Declan Martin and Paul Cashman who have done a lot of work on the team this year. Bride Rovers had a good year too and will renew rivalry with our lads in the football final next Saturday.
Panel: Tom Barry, Darren Buckley, Bobby Hosford, Fionn O'Neil, Liam Cashman, Jack Cronin, Luke Dolan, Robbie Wallace (Capt), Rìan Fitzgerald, Sean Ekechukwu, Cìan O’Donovan, Eoghan McCarthy, Dara McCarthy, Liam Martin, Robbie Milward, Callaghan McCarthy, Flynn Murphy, Diarmuid Ó hUallacháin, Dara Wallace, Mason White, Harvey White, Noah O’Loughlin.
Rebel Óg North Under 18 Division 2 League Final.
Castlelyons 6-18 Kilworth / Araglen Óg 0-8
Castlelyons minor hurlers played in the Rebel Óg North League this year and qualified the final versus Kilworth. The game was played in Castlelyons under lights on Wednesday evening last in very wet and wintry conditions. We started well and continued to dominate throughout the game winning easily in what was a surprising result as Castlelyons and Kilworth played each other earlier in the league in what was a much closer game.
Kilworth did look lively early on but Gearoid McCarthy, Dylan Leetch and Oran Hickey in the half back line started very well for. Darragh Fleming and Sean Óg McGuire settled in well at midfield and the ball was coming in nicely to the forwards who took their chances. Darragh Fleming himself got our first goal after an assist from Sam McCarthy, Darragh Bransfield struck for our second goal with a good ground shot, while Kevin Barry got a proverbial cracker f a goal and Shane Hallihan came in from the wing to bang in another in the first half. During this half young Sam McCarthy playing very well also put over 0-5 with Adam Lardner 0-3 and Shane Hallihan 0-2 also scoring to leave us well in control by 4-9 to 0-4 at half time.
Kilworth tried hard early in the second half but Jude Hallihan, who is proving to be a very good goalie, was fearless with good clearances, while the O’Neill brothers and Cathal Sheehan in the backs held their lines well. A Kilworth sub-Oran Hegarty showed well scoring three points, but their shooting was somewhat off target and Castlelyons got back into the game again. We had the luxury of rotating the panel and Khaled Abdelrazik really showed his class with some great scores, Thomas McAuliffe, Alex Quirke, Liam O’Riordan and Sean O’Callaghan also done very well. Adam Lardner finished off the game with two great goals towards the end. Overall, this was a very good showing by the lads against a somewhat disappointing Kilworth side. After the game Patsy O’Mahony, treasurer of Rebel Óg North presented the League Shield to captain Dylan Leetch who thanked all. Well done to the lads and their management team of Trevor Hickey, Shane O’Neill and Ciarán McGann.
Their next game is the final of Rebel Óg East Under 18 championship versus Nemo Rangers fixed for Glenville on Sunday 5th October at 12md in Glenville. Nemo have defeated us already in the group stages and will be fairly tough but no doubt the lads will be up for the final and we wish them the best of luck.
Panel: Jude Hallihan; Tom O’Neill, John O’Neill, Cathal Sheehan; Oran Hickey, Dylan Leetch, Gearóid McCarthy; Darragh Fleming, Sean Óg McGuire; Shane Hallihan, Sam McCarthy, Ciarán Murphy; Adam Lardner, Darragh Bransfield, Kevin Barry; Liam O’Riordan, Thomas McAuliffe Shane O’Callaghan, Ronan Ryan, Khaled Abdelrazik, Ronan Hickey, Alex Quirke and Eanna Cotter.

East Cork Junior B Championship (Relegation Play Off).
Castlelyons 4-27 Carrigtwohill 2-2.
Our Junior B Hurlers travelled to Cobh on Sunday morning for a relegation play-off game versus Carrigtwohill. We had a facile victory thus maintaining our status for 2026. Minor players Dylan Leetch, Adam Lardner and Sean Óg McGuire were involved and showed up well with Adam scoring 2-2. Ian O’Sullivan was also among the goals. Well done to all the lads, manager, Chris Cotter and his selectors Will Daly, Daithi Whelan and Ian Barry who ensured all games were played in league and championship and were highly competitive despite losing so many players along the way. It was unfortunate that the senior panel had a lot of injuries during the year and have used 26 players in the championship to date.
