Castlemartyr GAA News

Premier Intermediate Hurling

Our relegation play off game takes place this Saturday in Glanworth with a 4pm start. Mallow, who avoided a potential similar football assignment by virtue of their victory on Sunday, are sure to provide us with a very testing hour.
We surge all supporters to make a special effort to travel to Glanworth on Saturday for this important game. Best of luck reds!

Junior 'A' Football

We slipped to our first football defeat for quite a while in Killeagh on Saturday as despite a gallant effort by our under strength team, Youghal ran out winners by 2-13 to 1-8 in the Michael O'Connor Motor Factors JAFC Championship.

The seasiders pulled away in the second half after the teams had retired with just a 23rd penalty dividing the teams in the first half - Youghal 1-4 Castlemartyr 0-4. Our first half points came from Liam Martin, Jamie Stack, Andrew Kelly (free), and Daire Coughlan.

An early Youghal goal after the resumption shaped the second half, even though goalkeeper Conor Whyte came up to kick a fine two pointer within two minutes of that green flag.. We struggled to close the gap thereafter, despite the best efforts of Mike Cosgrave, Liam Martin and Co around the middle third, with Youghal moving into a 2-12 to 0-7 advantage before the hardworking Conor Ronayne goaled from close range on 57 minutes. In the end, Youghal's 2-13 to 1-8 win was enough to see them advance straight to the semi finals along with Carrigtwohill as best group winners.

Next up for Castlemartyr is a quarter final clash against Carraig na bhFear on Sunday week September 28th at Lisgoold 3.30pm. The second quarter final is between Erin's Own and Aghada.

Greenway Walk

Thanks to those who turned out and supported our Walk on Sunday last in Mogeely. Unfortunately, the weather was far from kind during the morning, which had an impact on numbers. Club Chairman Carey Joyce thanked those in attendance for their support and reported that ground will be broken in the next few weeks on the Meeting Room/Kitchen building, which is the latest phase of the club's development.
