Premier Junior status secured
Glenville 1-14
Millstreet 0-17
Glenville travelled to Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday night to play their third round Premier Junior Championship game against Millstreet in the knowledge that a win or a draw would secure Premier Junior status for 2026 and avoid a relegation battle.
In a game played in heavy rain, Millstreet started qucikly with a two-point score and it took Glenville nine minutes before they opened their account. Neither team were ever more than three points ahead or behind at any stage of the 60 minutes.
Ciaran O’Leary was in exceptional form, scoring 1-2 in the first half with scores from Ciaran Linehan, Adam Murphy, Callum O’Mahony and Eddie Delahunt all adding to the Glenville score of 1-7 in the first half to Millstreet’s 0-8 on the short whistle.
Glenville’s two point advantage was quickly extinguished with two quick Millstreet scores to see the game level for the fifth time in 34 minutes. Glenville restrored their lead to three points with two excellent Colin O’Keeffe points and a Cathal Fitzgerald point. Millstreet weren’t finished and responded with their second two-point score.
With 56 minutes gone, Glenville were two points ahead with points from Eddie Delahunt and Colin O’Keffe, before Millstreet kicked their third two pointer, this time from a free to level the game. A minute later, Millstreet again scored a two-pointer to take the lead by two points. With 90 seconds remaining, David Quirke launched an excellently targeted kick-out, Cathal Fitzgerald made a high touch to clear the ball out to the waiting Ciaran Linehan, who hand passed it to Donal Sheehan. Donal quickly moved the ball to Ciaran O’Leary who ran ahead towards the corner, did a quick turn and kicked the most important shot of his life – the ball went over the black sport from outside the arc, levelling the game. With time up, the ref blew the final whistle, game ended as a draw, Glenville finished third in theoir group, Premier Junior status secured for 2026 and the relegation battle to be played out between Millstreet and Ballydesmond.

GLENVILLE’S U15s STUN CARRIGALINE WITH COMEBACK VICTORY
In one of the most dramatic games of the year, Glenville’s U15 footballers produced a sensational second-half comeback to defeat Carrigaline on Thursday evening, 4-10 to 3-11.
Trailing by 3-8 to 0-1 at the break, few could have predicted the turnaround that followed. Carrigaline had dominated the opening half, but Glenville showed real spirit and resilience after the restart. Key positional switches and fresh energy from the bench proved decisive, as Glenville began to chip away at the deficit.
With time ticking down, the black and amber drew level and then edged two points clear heading into the final minutes. In a nail-biting finish, Glenville’s defence stood firm under intense pressure, holding Carrigaline scoreless late on to seal a famous victory.
This result ranks as one of Glenville’s finest performances of the season. The ability to respond to adversity, overturn such a commanding lead, and finish with belief and composure is a credit to all the players and mentors involved.
Keane Wonder Goal Lights Up Glenville Junior D Finale
Glenville’s Junior D footballers brought the curtain down on their season last night against Cobh, producing another spirited display that typified their year. While the result didn’t go our way, the pride and determination shown right up to the final whistle reflected the commitment of this special group.
The game itself provided plenty of memorable moments. Liam Keane lit up the evening with an unbelievable goal – chipping the goalkeeper from fully 30 yards and finding the bottom corner, a strike that will be remembered for years to come. Unfortunately, Liam later picked up an injury and had to leave the field, but not before leaving his mark on the game. Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.
Manager Noel Cahill, never shy of leading from the front, came on to replace Keane and rolled back the years with a fine performance himself. Dennis Buttimer added a superb point, while Alan Busteed was as reliable as ever from placed balls, keeping the scoreboard ticking. At the other end, Stephen Ryan pulled off several fine saves to keep Glenville in the contest, showing great composure between the posts.
In defence, Michael Murphy was a rock, standing strong under pressure and setting the tone for those around him. Alongside him, Colm Buckley impressed with a solid display, while further up the field his brother Fionn Buckley was strong throughout, making his presence felt in every exchange. The other Michael Murphy also caught the eye in attack with some excellent work in the forward line.
Adam Hennessy played very well up front, constantly troubling the Cobh defence, while Shane Forde impressed in the half-forward line, combining hard work with intelligent movement. Rio Horgan was outstanding in linking play, knitting defence and attack together with clever movement and smart distribution. And perhaps the highlight of the second half came from Will Sheehy, who channelled his inner Maradona with a dazzling solo run the length of the pitch that brought the Glenville supporters to their feet.
There was also great admiration for John O’Connor, who is still togging out and playing despite his advancing years – a testament to his love of the game and his enduring commitment to Glenville.
Beyond the individual moments, what stood out once again was the unity and togetherness of this team. To be able to field a third adult side is a fantastic achievement for Glenville GAA, and it speaks volumes for the depth, passion, and spirit within the club.
A special word of thanks goes to manager Noel Cahill for his time, dedication, and guidance, ably assisted by mentor Johnny O’Connell, whose support and encouragement have been vital throughout the campaign.
Well done to all players and mentors involved – this has been a season to be proud of, and one that reflects the best traditions of the club.
