Glenville 5-10 - Erin’s Own 0-13

Minors Power Past Erin’s Own to Stay in Championship Hunt

Glenville’s minor footballers continued their championship campaign at home to Erin’s Own last Wednesday night, producing a superb display against a side that had been unbeaten coming into the game.

With regular full back Dara and corner back Adam ruled out, Glenville were forced to reshuffle their defence and it took time to settle. After 18 minutes the visitors led 0-4 to 0-1, before David O’Connor struck for a well-taken goal to level matters. The score ignited Glenville, and by half time they had surged four points ahead, Mike O’Riordan adding a second goal following a fine team move.

The second half was tightly contested, nip and tuck throughout, but in the final 10 minutes Glenville cut loose. Goals from Shayne Curtin, Jayden Hennebry and David Barry put the result beyond doubt. The final whistle brought huge cheers as Glenville ran out 5-10 to 0-13 winners.

With six players getting on the scoresheet and Erin’s Own restricted to just three points from play, there was much to admire in this performance. The victory means that a win in the final group game away to Aghada on September 17th would secure Glenville a place in the championship final.

It has been a remarkable response from this group, who have regrouped impressively after a heavy defeat to Killeagh earlier in the campaign. Attention now turns to a big hurling clash against Bride Rovers this week before that all-important trip to Aghada.

U12s impress to close out Division 2 league phase

Glenville U12s concluded the league phase of Division 2 with a superb performance against St Colmcilles in Carrignavar on Sunday morning.

FT: Glenville 5-5 St Colmcilles 0-6.

The work rate and tackling from all 19 players was a privilege to watch, with every member of the panel giving their all from start to finish. Glenville put themselves in a strong position through fantastic teamwork and went on to finish the job in style with some excellent interplay and fine scores.

It was a brilliant way to round off the group stage and a credit to the effort being put in by the players and coaches alike.

Glenville U14 Team 2 reach Championship Final

Glenville’s U14 Team 2 produced a stirring second-half comeback to book their place in the Championship Final. Facing Éire Óg, the lads trailed by eight points at half-time but showed tremendous character and determination after the restart.

With hard work and teamwork throughout the field, Glenville gradually reeled their opponents back in before pushing on to secure a memorable victory.

It was a fantastic team effort and a deserved reward for the players and mentors who now look forward to the final.

Reminder – Re-Turn Bins at Glenville GAA

Glenville GAA wish to thank everyone who has been using the orange Re-Turn recycling bins at the club grounds in recent months. The initiative has been making a real difference, with all proceeds from returned bottles and cans going directly to support the Juvenile Section.

The club would like to remind members and supporters that these bins are for bottles and cans only (with the Re-Turn logo). Containers should be empty before being placed in the bin, and no general rubbish should be disposed of in them.

Every correctly recycled container helps raise funds for the club while also protecting our environment. Glenville GAA greatly appreciate the continued support of the community in making this scheme a success.
