BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.
HUGE HURLING WEEKEND..
Our Senior and Junior hurling sides face major Championship ties over the coming weekend. The Seniors meet Watergrasshill on Saturday evening. At 11am on Sunday the Junior C team face St Catherines and the Junior A’s meet Cobh on Sunday evening. In between we host a Co. Board game when Kilworth face Ballinhassig on Sunday. It’s action all the way as we go into September with the minors also in action.
MINOR HURLING. Very tough Minor Hurling Championship R4 win v Lisgoold in Pairc Na Bride.
This was always going to be a tough and tense game at home to Lisgoold as we needed another win and a loss for our opponents would put them out of contention to qualify for a semi final. That and the fact that we lost to our opponents in last year’s Semi Final.
We used that to our advantage and reminded the lads of the hurt they felt after that last year’s defeat. The lads responded well in a very fast and physical game of Hurling. We lost the toss and were playing against a steady breeze. We lined up with Jack and Michael inside and Finn as a third mid-fielder. The visitors opened the scoring with two fast points from play before we got our first from a free. Lisgoold were having far the better of the early stages but we were staying in the game with a few points from play before we got our first goal to take the lead. Our backs lead by Denis, Jamie, Ronan, Cathal, Adam and Gearoid were solid and put in some hard tackles through the game and contributed 5 points from play but over carried the ball into contact a few times and conceded 1-2 before the short whistle leaving it as a 1 point lead to the Rovers at half time. 1-13 to 2-9.
Matty and Cormac at midfield were working very hard and distributing good ball and scoring too. After 5 minutes of the second half we reverted back to 3 inside forwards and Finn, Jack and Conor got more scores. We switched Michael to centre forward. Sean and Shane were get on more ball taking a few points. We brought in Rudi for Sean and we got our second Goal a few minutes later. Without being at our best we were the better team but a dogged physical Lisgoold were playing to stay in the Minor Championship and had it back to a single score with 10 minutes to go. Oliver, Gary & Mark were introduced and we finished the better with a run of point from play and a few long range frees from Cormac as we won our third championship game on a score line of 2-24 to 2-15. Well done lads. Our next Match is a Minor Football Semi Final v Carrigtowhill next Wednesday 3rd at 7pm in Pairc Na Bride. Please support.

REBEL ROVERS. Congrats to all our underage players who were in action with Cork and Imokilly teams last weekend. Firstly, Cathal Barry played midfield with the Cork Under16s in their victory over Kilkenny.
Cody Scanlan who was centre back for Cork Under15s in the Arrabawn Cup.
Finally, Ollie Scanlan and Liam Carr played with Cork East (Imokilly) in their win in the Tony Forristal U14 hurling tournament in Waterford. Well done to all the lads -ye represented family, Club and parish in an excellent manner.
UNDER 14 NEWS. Preparations are well under way for our Under14 panel as we get close to the business end of the season. On this Thursday September 4th we play the football championship semi final against St Colmans (Cloyne/Russell Rovers) so all roads lead to Pairc na bhride in Rathcormac to see who gets to reach this final.
On 12th of September we are playing Killeagh in the championship Hurling final with the venue yet to be confirmed. Best of luck to our players and mentors over the next few weeks.
NEXT WEEKEND IS MEGA. Our Senior Hurlers have won their two games so far v Blarney and Courcey Rovers but we are not still absolutely guaranteed a place in the knock-out phase of the championship. On Saturday evening in Ballynoe we face Watergrasshill in Round 3 of the SAHC. Since the Courceys game the panel have really worked hard in training. A few injuries are still problematic, hopefully these will have cleared up. The game in Ballynoe on Saturday evening is timed for half 6 so best of luck lads and go for it. Having lost to Lisgoold on Sunday las our Junior C team are back in action again next Sunday morning. They will face St Caherines in a tough quarter final game, timed for 11 o clock. At the time of writing no venue had been announced for this game but lads just - all the very best, ye have given some great displays this year. Later on Sunday then it’s the turn of our Junior A hurlers when they meet Cobh in their third Round Robin game. Victories over Carrigtwohill and Killeagh almost guarantee us a place in the knock-out series. A win v Cobh would get a semi final place. If we lose to Cobh we should still be in a quarter final. This is Cobh’s ‘first’ team so obviously they will be very strong. They defeated Carrig and drew with Killeagh in their earlier games and are one of the three ‘single’ teams in the East Cork JHC-along with St Itas and Carrignavar. Best of luck lads, go for it.
GAME IN PAIRC NA BRIDE. In between our two Junior Championship fixtures on Sunday we are hosting a County Board game. Both Kilworth and Ballinhassig have won a game and lost a game in their opening rounds. They meet in Rathcorma at 2 0 clock in a vital game. All members available are asked to be at the pitch at 1 o clock.
