Fé15
We had a busy week of football with both teams having away matches. First up we travelled to Bishopstown on Wednesday to take on the hosts in phase 2 of the fe15 league. Despite a good overall performance the lads were unlucky to be edged out by a team who have being playing a grade higher than us over the years.
On Saturday we travelled to Mallow to play in the Fe 16 Division 5 league. This game was always going to be tough against a strong home side. The lads did in fairness perform very well and were leading with 10 minutes to go. But we tired near the end as they had a number of subs which they rotated throughout the game and we eventually ran out of puff! It isn’t often a team score 8 goals and loses!!
Well done also to our lads who lined out for the fe16s in a good win on Friday. Thanks Ewan for stepping in on Saturday and helping yourself to 1-1.
We would like to wish our condolences to the McSweeney and Fitzgerald families on the sad passing of Ben’s Grandad Jimmy.
Fé 6
The U6 boy’s had their first in house blitz last Saturday morning in Park South. We hope to do this more often in the future when our numbers pick up again with schools reopening. We will be in Park South for the next couple of weeks on Saturday mornings from 10am to 11am. Any new members wishing to join who were born in 2020 and starting school this week will be part of next years U6 panel and they will be starting in late October.

Under 13’s:
Our U13 girls played in the Pauline Downey memorial Tournament hosted by Douglas GAA on Sunday August, 24th. There were 7 clubs competing and our U13's played 3 10 minute games in their group V Ballinhassig, Douglas & Ballygarvan, winning all three games with fantastic displays of lifting, carrying and striking. They progressed to the Cup semi final which was against Sars and our girls intensity never waned and they dug deep to also win the semi final convincingly. They played Carrigaline in the Cup final & although the girls played with great determination in a fiercely contested match, we were unlucky to end up runners up with only a goal to separate both teams in the end. We are very proud of these girls who have come on so much in the last season and demonstrate such strength and resilience in each and every game.
Under 14’s:
Our U14’s came away with a win in their first match of the Championship V Charleville in Park South on Tuesday evening. Our girls finished strong in the first half, but they could see that Charleville came out determined in the second half. All the girls worked tirelessly for the team and we were able to keep up the intensity to the last whistle for the victory. Well done to Nessa for captaining the ladies on the night.
Under 13’s:
Well done to our U13 girls who played their opening match of the U14B championship last night in style against Eire Og at home in Park South. From the whistle the girls played with skill, determination and superb team effort putting in an excellent winning display. Well done to Eve who captained the team on the night. The next match of the championship will be against Douglas on the 13th of September.
Ladies Football
Intermediate Championship
So here we are round 2 of the Intermediate Championship in the fabulous facility at Fermoy GAA club, for what we expect will be a tough match against a team that came down from senior this year. Conditions are near perfect with a slight breeze and management have an almost full squad to pick from. A victory here would be a huge impetus for the rest of the campaign. Positive opening for midleton with a turnover by Kate Sullivan unfortunately the attack breaks down but midleton attack again and sadhbh sends it narrowly wide. Midleton with the breeze in the first half are pressing hard to good effect in the early stages and a long speculative shot from Lucy cashman goes over for the opening score. Fermoy attack breaks down again under huge pressure from the defence and at the moment it's all Midleton. Some great movement by Abby sees another superb point by Sadhbh and from the resulting kick out, Ava passes to Sadhbh and she taps over to make it 3 points to nil. A great start. The Midleton turnovers are proving significant now and one by Claire o Brien and Megan Kelly gets the ball to Ava and this results in a close range free which is tapped over by Sadhbh. From the kick out Fermoy attack and a soft free is converted to leave the score 4-1. A good kick out by returning keeper Rayanna Power who’s grand uncle Ger won 8 All Ireland’s with the great Kerry team of the 70’s and 80’s sees us on the attack again but the shot by Rachel goes marginally wide. Another great attack sees a shot at goal by Ava saved. Another superb turnover by Midleton's Sorcha Cronin leads to another Midleton attack through Lucy Keneally but the ball is broken down by Fermoy who are beginning to get a foothold on proceedings with 13 minutes gone. However a brilliant interchange of passing sees Abby score with the fist to give midleton a 5-1 lead on the 16th minute. Abby follows this up with another superb point following dome great movement by Lucy Wallace and Jodie. Fermoy follow up with a well worked point of their own. 6-2 now with 12 minutes to go in this exciting game. However this is only short lived as a kick out won by Claudia allows Molly to put Abby through and captain fantastic scores from a tight angle. Sadhbh sends one narrowly wide on the 21st minute and Fermoy attack from the kick out to win a free but it's brilliantly caught on the line by Rayanna. Lucy wins the ball from this turnover but it's subsequently turned over by Fermoy but their attack leads to nothing. The Magpies are by far the superior outfit so far but may need a bigger lead playing into the wind in the second half. They add to their tally through the boot of the omnipresent Claire o Brien to make it 8-2 with 6 to play in normal time. A Fermoy attack breaks down again under huge pressure from the defence and at the moment it's all Midleton. Some great movement by Abby sees another superb point by Sadhbh and from the resulting kick out, Ava passes to Sadhbh and she taps over to make it 3 points to nil. A great start. The Magpies are by far the superior outfit so far but may need a bigger lead playing into the wind in the second half. They add to their tally through the boot of the omnipresent Claire o Brien to make it 8-2 with 6 to play in normal time. A Fermoy attack leads to a rather harsh free and a surprising yellow card for Molly Beausang for a fairly inocuous high tackle. Fermoy score from the free but from the kick out Lucy K passes to Ava who takes on 2 players and fires over from 25 yards. 9-3 now with 2 to go. A free in to midleton for barging on Lucy cashman is turned over by Fermoy who kick from long range to leave it 9-4 in the dying seconds. Then the magic happens and the outstanding Abby sends a fabulous through ball to Lucy C who hammers it to the net for a brilliant goal. And that's it the final whistle sounds and the visitors go into the break with a commanding 8 point lead on a score line of 1-9 to 4 points. 2nd half gets underway Fermoy go on the attack to try narrow the deficit and win a scoreable free but the opportunity is squandered. Another attack leads to a foul on Ava after great interplay between herself Lucy and Jodie and the free is beautifully lofted over by Sadhbh who’s showing all her skills and strength today. 1-10 to 4 now after 3 minutes of the second half . A well worked attack leads to a foul on Lucy K and Sadhbh brings her tally to an incredible 5 points. Another great turnover by the ever superb Abby leads to a free in to Midleton but it goes narrowly wide on the 7th minute of the 2nd half. Fermoy counter attack and send one over to reduce the deficit marginally to 1-11 to 5. Fermoy attack again and send it wide but are beginning to grow into the game with 20 minutes to go . Another attack by Fermoy sees them add a point and Midleton make their first substitution and immediately the youthful Lucy Murphy gets a brilliant pass to Lucy cashman who sends it over. What a fabulous score! Jodie wins a great tussle and we narrowly miss a great goal chance but the Magpies have responded magnificently to the early home pressure. 1-12 to 6 with 16 minutes to play. A well worked point by Fermoy reduces the score line again but a great attack by Molly and an effort by Rachel goes narrowly wide. It's end to end now and Rayanna has to be alert to save a good effort. Midleton's fitness levels are showing and the girls are full of running now. Time is running out for Fermoy and you suspect they need a goal. Another free from them goes wide which doesn't help their case. 1-12 to 7 now. Fermoy get another free which they convert to leave the margin 1-12 to 8. Another attack by Lucy Murphy who's looking very comfortable at this level sees a foul on Sadhbh when bearing down on goal for a penalty which is sent to the net, Mo Salah like, by Cork all Ireland winner Ava Mc Auliffe. With 5 minutes of normal time remaining the score is a healthy 2-12 to 8. Midleton add another point in a game that's now well and truly over. Fermoy respond to make it 2-13 to 9. Despite attacks at both ends, neither can add to the tally although Fermoy eventually do with seconds of normal time remaining. That proves to be last score of this entertaining game here at Fermoy. Another teak tough performance by the Magpies in round 2 and with 4 games still to go, things are looking up for this ever improving Midleton side. Next up for this team is an away game next Thursday evening away to Naomh Abán. Best of luck.
U14
