Junior Hurling Tomorrow - New Venue
Please note tomorrow's important East Cork junior 'B' hurling championship game against St Catherine's will now take place in Ballinacurra at 7pm. Note change of time and venue. This is our second match in the competition as we face the Ballynoe based team who edged out Castlelyons in their opening fixture. Please support the reds in this important encounter. Shane Hodgins is the referee for the game.
Footballers Impress Again
Our junior 'A' footballers (action picture) continued their fine recent form with a 0-20 to 2-5 win over Cloyne in their second outing of group 1 in the Michael O'Connor Motor Factors football championship. Friday's win was followed up by another football win on Sunday, as our junior 'D' team (pictured) took the honours over Ballinacurra in what was their first game in the competition.
Junior 'A' Championship
Castlemartyr with Andrew Kelly hitting 3 early points and looking really sharp settled well against Cloyne and led by 0-5 to 0-1 after 18 minutes, despite playing into the breeze at Aghavine.
The "reds" who were unchanged from the victory over Lisgoold stretched the lead soon after to six when Jack McGann landed one of his trademark 2 pointers with a superb kick. Cloyne had threatened prior to this carving out some chances. However, a combination of poor finishing and vigilant defending looked like seeing Castlemartyr about to retire in a comfortable position. A further orange flag by Mike Kelly and a fine point by Eoghan Martin had us 0-10 to 0-2 in front. Then, a late goal and a point from Pauide O'Sullivan were sucker punches as the clock hit the red, and Cloyne had instantly halved the deficit as the sides headed to the break.
Overall, we were still in a good position with plenty of players showing up well throughout the pitch . Liam Martin and Billy McGann were as usual, going through a pile of work whilst Charlie O'Neill, who later got a fine two pointer, was producing a top display.
Cloyne opened the second half with back to back points, in response to an early Billy McGann score, but Andrew Kelly's fourth of the day and a brace from Jack had us seven ahead again before Cloyne struck with a counter attack which yielded a second Paudie O'Sullivan close range goal on 39 minutes.
Again, the script was similar - Castlemartyr reacted positively with some controlled football and some impressive attacks, which brought further scores for Billy and Mike. Conor Whyte reacted smartly on a few occasions to deny Cloyne the goals they needed, whilst Cathal Martin and energetic corner backs Cian Murphy and Declan Kelly continued to produce tigerish defensive play. The deal was sealed as Mike with his second two pointer and Charlie's similar effort from distance stretched the winning margin to an impressive 9 points to boost our scoring difference.
Again, little reason for complaints as Castlemartyr kept up their very good run of results in 2025, stringing together a confidence building winning sequence.

Group Stages
So qualification is now secured, and now the chase is on for group 3 honours when we play Youghal on Saturday September 13th. The seasiders snatched a dramatic late win on a 4-10 to 4-9 scoreline over Lisgoold at Shangarry last Friday which takes them to three points - so basically a draw will be suffice for Castlemartyr but with we may need to reach 6 points to have a chance of one of those semi final places. Carraig na bhFear and Carrigtwohill have also both full points in their repstive groups. Carrigtwohill have a massive scoring difference of plus 39 at the top of group 1 as they face Dungourney in their final game. Carraig na bhFear are on plus 4 in group 2 as they prepare to take on Erin's Own in their concluding game, whilst we have a plus 14 difference in advance of the Youghal game. Remember, the best two group winners go straight to the semi finals, whilst the other group winner and three runners up will progress to the quarter finals.
All to play for yet!
Junior 'D' Win On Sunday
First half goals from captain Conor Ronayne and David Lynch allied to some strong deensive play by Warren Broderick and Zack McAuliffe were key factors as Castlemarty led 2-8 to 0-1 aginst Ballinacurra. Eventually the team coasted home by 3-16 to 1-4 at Paddy Walsh Memorial Park..
Conor Ronayne, who finished with a tally of 2-5, raised the third green flag, whilst Jack Smiddy was a star man following his introduction, scoring 4 points including one real gem off his left.
Tom Fleming and Alex Brodercik were in command at midfield, whilst Ben Napier returned to the football fields with a high energy performance. In summary, a very good hour and great to see 17 players togged out and a few more to return from injury. Well done to team boss Cha O'Neill on getting this team up and running.
The result leaves us through to the knockout stages with Youghal and St Catherine's already through from the other group.
