Excellent Hurling Win
A great win for our Intermediate hurlers on Sunday last keeps our team right in the mix for a place in the knockout stages of the Co Op Superstores Premier Intermediate Championship.
As we know at this stage, things are extremely tight at the top of the table.
In fact, across the 15 groups in the county championships, spanning five different grades, our group is the only one that has all four teams sitting on 2 teams. It all means leading to a potentially dramatic day when Castlemartyr meet Ballincollig and Kilworth play Ballinhassig at 2pm on Sunday September 7th. Our match will take place in Carrigtwohill.
The "reds" will be hoping to continue the level of performance produced on Sunday last when they take on a Ballincollig outfit that themselves turned in a big hour when overcoming Kilworth at Rathcormac on Saturday last.
Junior Football Resumes
The Michael O'Connor Motor Factors junior 'A' football championship resumes this weekend, with Castlemartyr meeting Cloyne in our second game in group 3 on this Friday evening at Aghavine.. Please note the game will now start at 7pm and not 7.30pm as originally scheduled.
Lisgoold, who Castlemartyr defeated in their opening game, meet Youghal at the same time in the other game in the group. It goes without saying that a second win would mean a huge step towards the knockout stages. Our concluding round robin fixture is against Youghal in mid September
In junior 'D' football, Castlemartyr host Ballinacurra at Paddy Walsh Memorial Park at 2pm on this Sunday afternoon in what will be our club's first ever match in this championship. Best wishes to all involved.
In the meantime, our club base will also be the venue for the JAFC group 1 match between Glenbower Rovers and Dungourney at 7pm on this Saturday evening. Both teams were defeated in their opening fixtures.
Junior B Hurling
Next Tuesday's championship match against St Catherine's is also now timed for 7pm (venue to be confirmed) and will be followed on Sunday week by our third outing against Castlelyons. So a busy few days ahead.
Championship Fixtures
Going back to the concluding series of group games in the county hurling championships, the meeting of Midleton and Russell Rovers at Intermediate 'A' level will take place in our grounds on Saturday September 6th at 4.30pm. This is a key game in the group as Midleton are top with 4 points and Russell Rovers are now on 2 following their win over Mayfield last Sunday. A big crowd is expected.
Club 5K Walk
Castlemartyr GAA are staging a 5K Walk for all the family on the Greenway from Mogeely at 12 noon on Sunday September 14th. Whilst there will be no sponsorship cards available, there will be a bucket collection and a credit card facility available - It's all part of our continued development plans as we aim to enhance club facilities.
Work will begin on the new gym shortly and after that, the new Club Rooms, incorporating a function/meeting area and kitchen will become the main focus. These facilities will serve us for many years to come, and thus we encourage everyone to play a part by taking to the Greenway and making a donation on September 14th - hope to see you all there.
