Castlemartyr GAA News

Junior B Championship

Unfortunately, it was a disappointing first outing in the East Cork Junior B Championship for our hurlers on Sunday afternoon in Cloyne as we went down to Aghada by 2-14 to 0-12.

A below par first-half performance against the breeze left us chasing the game in the second half as we retired 2-8 to 0-4 in arrears. Whilst there were some promising moments in the game, unfortunately, some wayward shooting proved costly as the team went about chasing Aghada's advantage. Cian Murphy, Declan Kelly, Darragh Cashman Oran Murphy Charlie O'Neill, and Peter Fleming were amongst our points scorers but as the game went to, the need for goals grew greater and in the end Aghada ran out deserving winners.

Team - Brian Smiddy, David Lynch, Odhran Cantwell, Oran Murphy, Jamie Stack, Dave Lawton, Tom Fleming, Mike Cosgrave, Peter Fleming, Cormac Lynch, Darragh Cashman, Cian Murphy, Declan Kelly, Charlie O'Neill and Conor Ronayne
Subs - Colm Beausnag, Sean Morgan, Richard Burke, Oisin Cantwell, Ewan Cashman

Our next game against Castlelyons is provisionally fixed for Tuesday 26th August at a venue to be confirmed. (please note change from original date) The Ballynoe team edged out Castlelyons by 1-16 to 0-17 in their group 3 opener on Saturday evening at Rathcormac. Our concluding group game against Castlelyons is listed for August 31st.

Premier Intermediate Hurling

All roads lead to Pairc UI Rinn on Sunday for the 2.15pm start against Ballinhassig in our crucial Co Op Superstores round 2 fixture. The southeast side recorded a morale boosting opening win and will as always prove tough opposition. Kilworth meet Ballincollig in the other game in our group in Rathcormac on Saturday evening - 6.30pm.
We ask supporters to please travel and cheer on our team on Sunday afternoon in their vital match.

Junior Football

Our defence of the East Cork junior 'A' football title will continue in Aghavine against Cloyne on Friday week August 22nd at 7.30pm. Castlemartyr will be hoping to follow up their excellent opening group win against Lisgoold in Cobh a few weeks back. Lisgoold take on Youghal in the night's other game at Shanagarry also at 7.30pm. Cloyne and Youghal shared the spoils at 2-11 each in their championship opener.

Junior D Football

Sunday, August 24th is the date for our Junior D Championship match , when we host Ballinacurra in Castlemartyr at 2pm.

Imokilly Coast Home

Imokilly coasted home to an impressive opening win against Avondhu on Saturday evening at Church Road. The 0-18 to 0-6 interval tally eventually progressed to 2-32 to 1-17 at full time. We had 4 Castlemartyr starters with Mike Kelly firing over a hugely impressive 0-7 , Brian Lawton 0-3, Joe Stack 0-2 and Ciaran Joyce 0-1 - so a net return of 0-13 from our local reds. Cathal Martin and Darragh Joyce are also part of this year's Imokilly squad.
Imokilly not meet Muskerry in the divisional final after the mid Cork side defeated UCC by 4-15 to 0-21. The decider takes place at the end of the month.

Kiltha Og

After Kiltha Og were just agonisingly edged out by Blarney in a cracking Premier 2 Under 16 Hurling Championship game in Castlemartyr , our venue will host the Under 18 hurling championship against Aghada on Wednesday evening beginning at 7.30pm.

Another game in Paddy Walsh Memorial Park is this Saturday evening when St Ita's meet Fr O'Neill's in the East Cork Oil junior 'A' hurling championship - 6.30pm.
