BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.

SENIORS WIN, JUNIOR C’s PIPPED.
We are on the cusp of the longest day of the year and activity on the Gaelic fields is simply hectic. Last weekend ourSEnior,  Junior C’s, Under 13 and14 footballers under 11 hurlers, under 6 hurlers and  three girls teams were in action.  Cork Senior Footballers earned a great win over Roscommon but the Cork Minor Hurlers lost out to Clare in the All Ireland semi final. Our June Executive meeting was held on Monday night last with a good attendance. The Lotto Jackpot of €13,400 was not won on Tuesday June the 10th. (report on junior C game next week)

UNDER 6 HURLING. With the past few months the young boys born in 2018 have been introduced to the skills of hurling and football and having great fun while making new friends. These  under 6 boys had a blitz against St Catherine’s on Wednesday the 11th of June. Played in lovely conditions in Pynes pitch  the boys from Ballynoe and Conna and our lads had a great evening of sport.  Both teams showed great displays of the skills learned and lots of fun was had by all

REBEL OG EAST UNDER 14 FOOTBALL. Match Report – under14 Football Championship – Páirc na Bríde (Friday, June 13th, 2025) Bride Rovers 5-17
Castlelyons   3-11
Our under 14 Footballers put in a strong performance last Friday night in Páirc na Bríde, securing a hard-earned win in the Championship against our close neighbours and gallant opponents, Castlelyons.
From the first whistle, the game was played in a great spirit, with both teams showing plenty of skill and determination. It was a sporting contest throughout, with Castlelyons pushing us all the way and never giving up.
Our backs deserve huge credit for the victory. Time and again they stood firm under pressure, showing excellent discipline and teamwork to keep Castlelyons at bay. Their organisation and tackling were key to our success, keeping the scoreboard under control and allowing us to build from the back.
In midfield, we saw fantastic effort and running throughout the game. Ruairí had a brilliant game – covering every blade of grass, winning vital possession, and linking defence and attack superbly -ably assited by Cathal Q.
Our forwards took their chances well, with a good spread of scorers. David Aherne was especially sharp, kicking  excellent scores from play. Henry B also impressed with points from frees and a well-taken point from play. Liam C was a constant threat, scoring three points from play, two frees, and a superb goal in the second half. Padraig contributed two good points from play, while Cathal worked hard and chipped in with two fine points and a third late on to cap a solid performance. Ollie added two championship points – one from play and one from a free – and overall our forward unit combined well, showing good teamwork and support play. Scoring 5 goals and 17 points shows the progress this team is making and a testament of the work they are putting in and developing nicely as the year progresses.
Castlelyons played their part in what was a very enjoyable and fair game of football. They showed great heart and sportsmanship, and we wish them the very best for the rest of the championship -both teams are still involved.
Well done to all the lads for a great team performance, and thanks to all the supporters who turned out to support us. After the match the players were told of the significance of the date, June 13th, which was the 50th Anniversary of the death of Club Chairman David John Barry, a man who did trojan work at both adult and under age for Bride Rovers.
Next Friday evening June 20th we play our final hurling championship group game when we host Aghada in the main pitch at 7.30pm.

REDFM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE, DIVISION 3 .(Bride Rovers defeat Courcey Rovers 1-16 to 1-15.)
Bride Rovers prevailed over Courcey Rovers in the RedFM hurling league in the penultimate game of the league. On a sunny and windy day in Ballinspittle.  The game had a 12.45 throw-in. Scores were hard to come by in the first half and ten points were shared by the two sides at the break. The contest opened up in the second half and a goal from Courceys saw them lead by  1 15 to 0 14 with just two minutes left. We raised two white flags to leave just two points between the sides as we went deep into injury time.  The ref was just about to blow the final whistle when Shane O Connor found the Courceys  net with a great shot and we were winners by a point 1 16 to 1 15.The result sees the Rovers as joint leaders of the Division 3 league, level with Newcestown.  With 8 games played we are on 13 points -same as Newcestown,  Courceys are on 11 with Ballinhassig on 10. The next game -our final group game  will see us face off against Ballinhassig. If we win this game we are in the League Final but if we lose it could come down to scoring difference to determine which two sides will contest the Division 3 Final.  Our game v Ballinhassig is scheduled for Rathcormac on June 28th at 7.30pm.
Team: v Courceys.

CORK MINORS  In winning the Munster Championship the Cork Minor hurlers gave some great displays including a good win over Clare in Tulla. On Sunday last in Thurles Clare gained revenge for that defeat with a two point win over Cork in the All Ireland Semi Final. It was nip and tuck all through with the banner just holding on.  Hard luck to Cork and well done to our own Denis Fitzgerld at full-back -we are very proud of you Denis. Clare will meet Waterford in the All Ireland Final.
WHAT ODDS A CORK DOUBLE IN2025? 1990 seems a long, long time ago-the year of the Double. Technically Cork, Dublin and Galway can still win both ‘Liam’ and ‘Sam’  this year but no one said ‘twould be easy! Our footballers have a handy preliminary quarter final this coming Saturday when we meet the Dubs in Croke Park so fingers crossed for that one.  Down in Limerick Tipperary face Galway in the hurling quarter final and the Rebels will meet the winners in Croke park at cow-time on Saturday July the 5th

UNDER 11’s IN CELBRIDGE.  Our under 11 hurlers were invited to take part in the Celbridge (Co. Kildare) festival of hurling last Saturday. We have been guests in Kildare in recent years manly due to Ciarain O Donovan -a former Bride Rovers hurler, from Bartlemy who is very involved with the Celbridge GAA Club. We played 3 games in Celbridge on Saturday.  We had three great wins over Oranmore-Maree (Galway), Tramore (Waterford) and Castletown  from Laois. The boys really enjoyed themselves even though the Tournament  was cut short due to flooded pitches on Saturday afternoon. We extend a big thank you to Celbridge who organised a great event and could do nothing about the rain. We were back home just after 5 o clock.
