There’s something for everyone in Glenville this weekend, as the club prepares to host a bumper two-day programme of football matches, community festivities, and family fun on Saturday and Sunday, June 21st and 22nd at the Glenville GAA Grounds. From underage blitzes to a veterans’ tournament and local market, the weekend promises to celebrate every corner of the GAA community.
Saturday, June 21st – Youth Blitzes, Farmers Market & Entertainment
The action gets underway on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM with football for U6, U7, and U8 boys and girls, giving the youngest members of the club and visiting teams a chance to shine. The morning continues with a U8 Boys Blitz and U10 Girls Blitz at 10:00 AM, followed by U9 and U10 Boys games at 11:00 AM.
In the afternoon, Glenville hosts the U17 Sevens at 1:30 PM and the always-exciting U15 Super 9s at 4:15 PM, showcasing the talents of our older juvenile players.
Off the pitch, the Farmers Market will open from 9:00 AM, offering fresh produce, homemade crafts, and artisan goods from local vendors. Food stalls will keep everyone well-fed throughout the day, and live entertainment by John Kennedy will add atmosphere and music to what’s sure to be a vibrant community gathering.
Sunday, June 22nd – Golden Oldies, Championship Battles & Finals
Sunday’s programme is headlined by the eagerly awaited Golden Oldies Football Sevens Tournament, beginning at 10:00 AM. This event brings together teams of seasoned players and club legends from across the region, and is sure to be a crowd favourite.
This year, Glenville is delighted to welcome visiting teams from Aghada, St Catherine’s, Russell Rovers, Laochra Aeracha, and Fermoy, all of whom will compete in a spirited and good-humoured contest that celebrates the lifelong love of the game. Expect skill, laughter, and maybe a few aching limbs!
The excitement continues into the evening with two big matches on home turf:
At 5:00 PM, Glenville’s U14s take on Erin’s Own in a Championship showdown that promises fireworks.
Then at 7:00 PM, our U13s meet Mitchelstown in the Football Final, with silverware on the line and strong support expected.
With football action for all ages, community spirit, and something for every visitor to enjoy, the Glenville GAA Grounds will be buzzing across the weekend. Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to come out, support the players, enjoy the festivities, and help make this a memorable weekend for the entire parish.
Glenville U16 C3 Fall Just Short in League Final Thriller

Glenville 3-10 St.Colmcilles 3-11
There was heartbreak for Glenville U16 C3 on Monday evening, 16th June, as they fell to a narrow defeat against local rivals St. Colmcille’s in the Division 4 League Final.
Having already met earlier in the campaign, Glenville were determined to show how much they had improved since that encounter — despite lining out with a depleted panel. They started the brighter of the two sides, hitting the net twice to take a deserved early lead.
However, Colmcille’s found momentum before the break, scoring two goals in quick succession to edge ahead by a single point at halftime.
The second half proved difficult for Glenville, as the home side pushed their advantage to eight points. But true to form, the Glenville boys never gave up. A brilliantly worked goal from deep inside their own half reignited belief, and they added several points to close the gap.
Despite their spirited comeback, time wasn’t on Glenville’s side and Colmcille’s held on for a narrow win.
It was a courageous performance from Glenville, who can take great pride in their progress, resilience, and the character shown throughout the campaign.
U11s Impress in Brian Cronin Tournament
Our U11 footballers were back in action early this morning, just hours after their match last night, as they took part in the Shield competition of the Brian Cronin Tournament in Dromtarriffe.
The boys put in a fantastic showing, securing impressive wins over both Canovee and Lyre. Despite their best efforts, they narrowly missed out in the semi-final against a strong Kilmurry side.
It was a brilliant morning of football and a great experience for all involved. A big thank you to all the parents who travelled today and last Saturday, and to Dromtarriffe GAA for hosting such a well-run and enjoyable tournament.
Jack Counihan Shines in All-Ireland Semi-Final Defeat
Commiserations to Jack Counihan and the Cork Minor Hurling team following their narrow defeat in the All-Ireland semi-final at the weekend.
Jack played his part in a fiercely contested game, scoring an excellent point and showing the same composure and skill that have marked his season throughout. While the result didn’t go Cork’s way on the day, the team can hold their heads high after a hugely successful campaign.
Their season was highlighted by a memorable Munster Final win, a title earned through grit, talent, and teamwork. Jack’s contribution to Cork’s journey has made everyone in Glenville and Watergrasshill GAA incredibly proud. Well done, Jack – the future is bright!
