RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2

VALLEY ROVERS 0-16 MIDLETON 2-19

Our senior hurlers travelled to Brinny on a miserable Thursday night last to take on Valley Rovers in the latest round of the County Hurling League and came away with their sixth win of the campaign after a hard-fought contest.

There was little to choose between the teams in the opening quarter but the visitors upped the ante in the second quarter and an Alex Quirke goal and points from Cormac Beausang (four - three from frees), Brion Saunderson (F), Mikey Finn (F), Sean O’Meara, Luke O’Farrell and Cormac Walsh saw us lead by six at the break on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-6.

Valley Rovers started the second-half strongly but thanks to some excellent defending we weathered the storm and a Luke O’Farrell goal and points from Cormac Beausang (seven - five from play), Pa White and Paul Connaughton and Aaron Mulchay off the bench saw us come home by nine at the final whistle.

Next up is a home league fixture against Ballymartle on Tuesday next, June 10 at 7.30pm  in what will be our second last league game, with Killeagh at home on Friday, June 27 being our final game.

MIDLETON: Bríon Saunderson (0-1F), Séadnaidh Smyth, Luke Dineen, Ciarmhac Smyth, Sean O’Sullivan, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes, Killian Burke, Adam Daly, Sean O’Meara (0-1), Cormac Beausang (0-11, 0-5 frees), Pa White (0-1), Mikey Finn (0-1F), Alex Quirke (1-0), Luke O’Farrell (1-1), Cormac Walsh (0-1). Subs used: Paul Connaughton (0-1), Aaron Mulcahy (0-1), Evan McGrath, Evan McCarthy, Gavin Bagnell.

RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 5

CASTLEMARTYR 4-24  MIDLETON 1-16

Our intermediate hurlers made the short journey to Castlemartyr on Saturday night for their third last game of the league campaign and they met a home side that were just too good for us on the night.

Despite an Evan McGrath goal, we trailed by five at the half-time break, 1-11 to 1-6, but the home side really pulled away in the second-half to see us end up on the end of a heavy defeat in front of a fine crowd.

MIDLETON: Cillian Hurley, Cathal Gunning, Sean O’Sullivan, Gavin Bagnell, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes (0-1), Killian Burke, Evan McCarthy, Leo Hennessy (0-1), Adam Daly, Aaron Mulcahy (0-10, 0-2 play), Evan McGrath (1-1), Gary Carroll, Paul Connaughton (0-2), Dara Scanlon (0-1), Kian Farmer. Subs used: Tiarnan Roche, Padraic Nagle, Sean O’Farrell and Daniel Garde.

RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 5

DUNGOURNEY 2-19 MIDLETON 3-18

Our intermediate hurlers were back in action on Wednesday night, just four days after their heavy defeat to Castlemartyr and this was a much more pleasant outing away to one of our East Cork neighbours.

After winning the toss we played against a strong breeze in the first-half and a Jack Leahy inspired Dungourney flew out of the traps and at one stage in the opening half we trailed by ten, 1-11 to 0-4.

But we steadied the ship and an Evan McCarthy goal and points from Cormac Walsh (four frees), Adam Daly, Evan McGrath, Dara Scanlon and Kian Farmer saw us go into the half-time break five points down on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-8.

Dungourney started brightly again but then we got on top and thundered into the game with an excellent display.

Kian Farmer was in flying form as he added 2-2 in the second period to go with his first-half point. Cormac Walsh added six points, including two from play, and Sean O’Meara chipped in with two from play to ensure that we led by five going into stoppage time before a late Jack Leahy goal gave us a bit of a scare but the whistle came in time and we held out for a very good and deserved victory in what was an excellent game of hurling in difficult conditions.

This win ensures that we will play in Division 5 again in 2026. Our final league fixture is at home to Milford on Saturday, June 28 at 3pm.

MIDLETON: Bryan Rossiter, Cathal Gunning, Christian Murphy, Sean O’Sullivan, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes, Killian Burke, Gavin Bagnell, Adam Daly, Evan McCarthy, Dara Scanlon, Evan McGrath, Sean O’Meara, Kian Farmer, Gary Carroll, Cormac Walsh. Subs used: Killian McDermott, Sean O’Farrell and Cormac O’Brien.

Saturday took us to the magnificent Malow GAA Complex in glorious sunshine for our first league football outing of the season for our second team at Fe15 level. We’ve entered the lads into Fe16 Division 5 to ensure they will have plenty of football games over the coming months. We expect this to be a competitive league where they will play other teams that will likely have a mix of both Fe15 and Fe16 players. After dominating the opening exchanges but only having 1 success on target, we were dealt a sucker blow by conceding a goal after 6 minutes, Mallows first score. Mallow gained confidence from that and continued to pick off points throughout the half, with a fluency that showed it was their 4 th match of the campaign to our 1 st . At half time though, we were well in the contest, only behind by 3 points (1-07 to 2-01). We started the second half brightly, with a rasper of a shot from Fionn Byrne hitting the roof of the net. After a couple of near misses by our fellas following the goal, Mallow responded with a goal of their own and continued to score points thereafter. With only the bare minimum to field 15 on day and therefore no opportunity to freshen things up, our lads wilted in the final 10 minutes to allow Mallow push on and add an extra gloss on the scoreline with 3 late goals. Final score - Mallow 5-16 To Midleton’s 4-04. Some great skill on display by our lads on the day – well done boys !!

We had two exciting football matches this week. On Thursday we hosted Youghal in the fe15 group 2A football league. We played with the wind in the first half. This helped us to a deserved 2-8 to 1-5 interval lead with the lads performing well all over the field. We missed a couple of scores early in second half and seemed to lose our momentum, being out scored 2-4 to a point in last 10 minutes which lead us to end up on the wrong side of a 3-13 to 3-11 score line.. While the result may have been disappointing the lads overall performed very well, with a lot of top class displays all over the field against a team who would have been playing Premier the last few years.

On Saturday afternoon we welcomed more East Cork opposition. This time we lined up against Erin’s Own in the Fe 16 Division 5 league. We played with a strong wind in the first half. We played some very good football and got on top with scores coming from a number of players. We went in at the short whistle with a bit to spare but we knew the wind would be a big factor in the second half and we’d have to perform even better to keep our lead intact. The onslaught dually arrived. In fairness to our lads with some good defensive work and by kicking a few scores ourselves we held our lead. We came out 3-10 to 2-9 victors. A great performance, well done lads!!

Texts will be going out about upcoming matches and training. Thanks to all the lads for their efforts in particular the Junior Cert crowd who we returned with no injuries!! Best of luck again lads.

A busy week this week for the lads with U 16 division 5 football and hurling both on the agenda. First up was a trip to city to take on Glen Rovers in our last game in the hurling league. While we had a promising start to this clash going a goal up and despite a mighty effort by all of the lads we struggled to score while our opponents, who had 2 very dangerous forwards scored a lot more freely. All the lads played great with no shortage of effort but Sometimes you just meet a better team. We ended up on the wrong side of a 4-16 to 1-6 score line. While this level certainly has been challenging with results not going our way all the time we have definitely seen improvements in the lads all over the field which is down to plenty of games at a high level. On Saturday we hosted Eire Og in Park South in the U16 Div 5 football league. We left ourselves too much to do despite a very good second half performance against a physically large and good football side. We had good performances all over the pitch with great work rate. If we sustain this for the hour and we will be a difficult opponent for any the four opponents we have left to face in the remaining matches of this league.

Midleton 1-10 Eire Og 4-10

Thanks again to the lads for their efforts. Best of luck to Cathal, Dylan, Eoghan, Fionn , Hugh, Kevin, Kian and Michael in the Junior Cert next week, not a bother to ye lads!!

Hard luck to our U14 second team that lost their first round of Division 4 hurling championship to Blackrock on a wet and windy Bank Holiday Monday in Clonmult Memorial Park. Eventhough we had more scores (13) to their 10, goals win matches and unfortunately we were unlucky not to get a couple more. Galant effort though from all that played so well done.

A trip to Bishopstown for us last Saturday. We travelled with 21 players and fielded two teams. It was an extremely competitive mornings hurling and our lads played with great skill and determination.

Camogie

Our U13 girls played the semi final of the U14B League at home in Park South on Sunday morning June 1st. They had strong opponents in Aghabullogue and it was a challenging game from start to finish with the scoreline favouring each of the teams at different times throughout. But despite a few injuries, our girls gave it their all and came out with a well deserved win!  Well done girls - we knew ye had it in ye and we are very proud of you all. The final of this league will take place next Friday evening June 6th in Castle Roadat 7 pm V Inniscarra.  All support is very welcome!

U15

Our U15 team put in a strong performance against St. Catherine’s in the Imokilly League on Wednesday 28th of May at Park South. While the result didn’t go our way, the girls showed incredible determination, teamwork, and fight right to the final whistle. A special mention to Saoirse, who proudly captained the team on the day.

U13 Championship

Our U13 girls had a very tough battle on Monday last against O Donovan Rossa in their County Championship game. On the day the opposition proved too strong for our girls but to their credit they fought so hard and played their hearts out till the very end. Many thanks to the Parents for providing much need refreshments and to those who helped out after the game.
