MATCH REPORTS
Red FM Division 7 Hurling League Killeagh 2-14, Douglas 1-17 May 28th 2025
Red FM Division 2 Hurling League Killeagh 3-23, Eire Óg 2-11 May 29th 2025
Our two Red FM hurling league teams had home fixtures this week in Páirc Uí Chinnéide, with mixed fortunes. Our Division 7 team were hoping to get a win in their final home match played on our Clashdermot pitch with our brand new ball-stop nets, but Douglas were formidable opponents. After Mikey Fitzgerald’s first minute Shane O’Donnell type one-handed goal, Douglas took full advantage of the wind, and were value for their 1-15 to 2-05 half-time lead (Dan Walsh with our second goal). Our second half performance was much better, typified by brilliant defensive work from Ritchie Landers, Gary Lehane and Aidan Morrison, while the duo of Dans (Landers and Walsh), Keane Budds, Jamie Fogarty and Paudie Mackey did the bulk of the scoring up front. In the end, a draw was a fair result, which means we must beat either Killavullen (June 13th) or O’Mathuna’s (June 29th), and probably both, away, to be in with a chance of promotion to Division 6.
Team: Colin Walsh, Pierce Geary, Allen Keniry, Aidan Morrison, Ritchie Landers, Gary Lehane, Padraig Leahy, Mikey Fitzgerald, Keane Budds, Dan Walsh, Jamie Fogarty, Dan Landers, Paudie Mackey, Dara Motherway, Gary Leahy, Dan Smiddy, Matthew Murphy.
The following evening our main pitch in Páirc Uí Chinnéide held its first adult match of 2025 following goalmouth repairs and the installation of a replacement ball-stop net. Good teamwork, a fast pace and accurate shooting gave us the platform for a convincing victory, with Dara Motherway bagging two goals, one in each half, and on-song Colm Leahy adding the third. Sean Walsh, Shane Smiddy and Andy Leahy also impressed up front while George Walsh Wallace, Brendan Delaney and Sean Long were also involved throughout. Like the Division 7 team, our final two matches in this league are also away, to Valley Rovers on June 15th and to Midleton on June 27th. Two wins would see us promoted to Division 1 with the big boys – how about it lads?

PRESENTATIONS MADE TO TWO WORTHY CAUSES
At half time in the Eire Og match, two presentations were made to worthy charities, both of which have been a great support to our social media guru Rory in his continuing rehabilitation. First up, John Twomey, Chairperson of Spinal Injuries Ireland, accepted a cheque for €2500 from the Poc Fada Organising Committee – Donie, Ger, Mary, Mary, Brian and Jimmy – the record amount raised at our 2024 St. Stephen’s Day Poc Fada. We then welcomed Anne and Sean Lynch from Rebel Wheelers, the multi-sport wheelchair club based in Cork, to accept a cheque for €1000 from Golf Society Captain Donal MacAuley and Club President Ray Rochford, which was a portion of the proceeds collected at the Golf Society Day in West Waterford Golf Club on Tuesday. Anne and Sean were joined by other Rebel Wheelers stalwarts Con and Conor Coughlan, Jerry and Darragh O’Regan, and Alan Dineen. Con was delighted to show off his 1995 Ballinhassig jersey in Páirc Uí Chinnéide while Conor was thrilled to get to the scene of his favourite song! Many thanks to MC Patrick Mulcahy for his professionalism, particularly when the sound system spectacularly failed. The poorly-prepared sound engineer was reminded of Roy Keane’s mantra – fail to prepare, prepare to fail!!
Donal MacAuley, Golf Society Captain, presents cheque for €1000 to Anne and Sean Lynch and Rebel Wheelers members.
