Senior and Intermediate Hurling Leagues

RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2

ERINS OWN 1-24 MIDLETON 2-20

Our senior hurlers suffered their first defeat of this season’s league campaign on Tuesday night when they lost out by a single point to Erins Own in Caherlag on a perfect night for hurling in front of a fine crowd.

1-1 each from Luke O’Farrell and Mikey Finn (the goal coming from a penalty) and points from Pa White (2), Cormac Walsh (2), Sean O’Sullivan, Alex Quirke and Sean O’Meara saw us go in at the half-time break level on a scoreline of 2-9 to 1-12.

Again there was very little to choose between the sides in the second period and despite four points (three frees) from Aaron Mulcahy, two each from Sean O’Meara and Pa White and single white flags from Mikey Finn, Killian McDermott and Cormac Walsh, we came up just a point shy at the final whistle after very well contested encounter.

Next up for the seniors is a trip to Brinny to take on Valley Rovers on Thursday, May 29 at 7.30pm.

RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 5

ERINS OWN 1-19 MIDLETON 1-20

Our intermediate hurlers made it back to back league wins on Friday night with a hard fought victory over Erins Own at a sweltering Caherlag.

A Kian Farmer green flag helped us to a 1-12 to 1-7 half-time advantage but the home side roared back in the second-half and at the final whistle we prevailed by just a single point.

Next up is a short trip to Castlemartyr on Saturday, May 31 at 7.30pm.

Juvenile

Fe15

Saturday took us to the magnificent Mallow GAA Complex in glorious sunshine for our first league football outing of the season for our second team at Fe15 level. We’ve entered the lads into Fe16 Division 5 to ensure they will have plenty of football games over the coming months. We expect this to be a competitive league where they will play other teams that will likely have a mix of both Fe15 and Fe16 players. After dominating the opening exchanges but only having 1 success on target, we were dealt a sucker blow by conceding a goal after 6 minutes, Mallows first score. Mallow gained confidence from that and continued to pick off points throughout the half, with a fluency that showed it was their 4th match of the campaign to our 1st. At half time though, we were well in the contest, only behind by 3 points (1-07 to 2-01). We started the second half brightly, with a rasper of a shot from Fionn Byrne hitting the roof of the net. After a couple of near misses by our fellas following the goal, Mallow responded with a goal of their own and continued to score points thereafter. With only the bare minimum to field 15 on day and therefore no opportunity to freshen things up, our lads wilted in the final 10 minutes to allow Mallow push on and add an extra gloss on the scoreline with 3 late goals. Final score - Mallow 5-16 To Midleton’s 4-04. Some great skills on display by our lads on the day – well done boys !!

Midleton 8-5

Na Piarsaigh 4-7.

Well done to our u14 Football team who got their championship campaign off to winning ways beating Na Piarsaigh at home in a sundrenched Clonmult Memorial Park on Friday evening last. It took our lads a while to settle and were 1-01 to no score down after 5 mins but they soon began to find their way and took the game to their opponents showing some lovely interlinking plays and were rewarded for their efforts on the scoreboard. Superb effort from all the players under energy sapping conditions to get a well earned win.
