CONGRATULATIONS TO CORMAC AND BEN
Congratulations to Cormac Deane and Ben Geary on their involvement with the Cork Minor Hurling Team who won the Munster Final last Friday evening in Semple Stadium, defeating Waterford in a closely contested match. Cormac, as he has done throughout this campaign, played a key role for Cork on the night, and emulates his illustrious Dad’s achievement from 30 years ago in claiming his first inter-county honours for his sporting CV. Hopefully both Cormac and Ben can continue to succeed with both Cork and Killeagh for many years to come.
MATCH REPORTS
Amarenco Junior Football League 2, Glenbower Rovers 3-12, Aghada 2-11 May 9th 2025
Another victory for our Junior footballers on the road, although technically this was a home match played in Pilmore last Friday evening. No two pointers available, but three quick fire goals in the opening quarter – from Evan Lane, George Walsh and Dara Motherway – gave us a cushion which we never thereafter relinquished. Similar to the previous game against Bride Rovers, the first half was our scoring half, as we led by 3-07 to 1-05 at half time, with seven different players on the scoresheet – Eoin Brenner, Rob Sinclair, Paudie Mackey and Davy Kelleher as well as the three goal scorers. Our scores dried up a little after half time with Dara, George and Paudie all raising white flags to keep us ahead, before the coup-de-grace was delivered by the youthful Johnno O’Connor, with assists from two minors – John Ogbebor and Jack Coleman - whose combined ages wouldn’t equal young Johnnos’s! A win in Glenville in our final match (provisionally fixed for June 8th with a possibility of a change) would put us into the league final and secure promotion back to Division 1.
Team: Colin Walsh, Fionn Brennan, George Walsh, Aaron Fitzgibbon, Robbie Treacy,, Brendan Delaney, Ciaran Leahy, Dara Motherway, Rob Sinclair, Evan Lane, Jamie Fogarty, Eoin Brenner, Paudie Mackey, Davy Kelleher, Colm Leahy, Cathal Fitzgibbon, John Ogbebor, Jack Coleman, John O’Connor.
Red FM Division 7 Hurling League Nemo Rangers 0-16, Killeagh 4-21, May 15th 2025
Red FM Division 2 Hurling League Na Piarsaigh 0-18, Killeagh 3-15 May 17th 2025
In contrast to our football exploits in recent weeks, these two matches were won due to clincial second half performances which saw us score seven goals without reply. In the Southside for the Division 7 fixture on Thursday evening, Paudie Mackey was in unstoppable form with a thirty minute hat-trick, while Dara Motherway scored a goal to rival Rob Downey’s Croke Park effort last July. At times in the second half the teamwork and skills on view were outstanding with Keane Budds, Gary Lehane, Gary Leahy and Robbie Treacy all in flying form. With three matches left, at home to Douglas and away to Killavullen and Diarmuid O’Mathuna’s, two wins would put us in the final and ensure promotion to Division 6.
Team: Colin Walsh, Ritchie Landers, Allen Keniry, Aidan Morrison, Robbie Treacy, Kevin Murphy, Gary Lehane, Mikey Fitzgerald, Keane Budds, Dan Walsh, Jamie Fogarty, Dan Landers, Paudie Mackey, Dara Motherway, Gary Leahy, Dan Smiddy, Aaron Fitzgibbon, Ciaran O’Rourke, Davy Kelleher.
On Saturday May 17th our senior hurlers travelled to the Northside for the Division 2 fixture against Na Piarsaigh, who are our opponents in our opening Senior A Hurling Championship match in Midleton on August 3rd. We led by 0-13 to 0-8 at half time with Richie Long accounting for six of those (four from frees) and Andrew Leahy and Evan Lane scoring a brace each. Dave Buckley, Cathal Fitzgibbon and Colm Leahy also added points. The white flags dried up after the middle whistle with just two more added but thankfully Richie Long raised two green flags half way through the second half and Andrew Leahy sealed the win with the third goal. We have now secured our status in Division 2, and Just like our Division 7 hurlers, two wins from our remaining three games (at home to Eire Og, then away to Valley Rovers and Midleton) would give us a great chance to qualify for the league final and secure promotion to Division 1.
Team: Philip O’Neill, George Walsh Wallace, Christy Coughlan, Brendan Delaney Rob Sinclair, Dinny Walsh, Kevin Murphy, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Sean Walsh, Richie Long, Evan Lane, Shane Smiddy, Dave Buckley, Colm Leahy, Andy Leahy, Robbie Treacy, Sean Long, Ryan McCarthy, Dara Motherway, Gary Leahy, Ciaran Leahy..
Rebel Óg East Minor Hurling League, Kiltha Óg 1-10, Killeagh 2-14, May 5th 2025
Our minor hurlers played their final league group match in Castlemartyr against Kiltha Og on May 5th. The first half was a dogged, physical affair with low scoring. It was 4 points apiece after 26 minutes. A good goal from John Ogbebor and three quick points from Ben saw us lead 1-7 to 0-4 at the short whistle. The second half saw more of the same. Adam was very composed in goals with good defending by Oran, Rian and Jack throughout. Andrew chipped in with two lovely points. We got a lucky break when a long shot from Fionn found the net. Further scores from Ben (3), Fionn and Alex Fogarty, who had a big impact off the bench, saw us run out 2-14 to 1-10. This result sees us qualify for the league final against Ballinora.
Team: Adam Barry, Tadgh Considine, Oran Cunningham, Rian O’Connor, Cian O’Riordan, Jack Coleman, Cathal Brennan, Andrew Brenner (0-2), Alex Howey, Aidan McNamee, Ben Geary (0-8, 0-4f), Fionn Brennan (1-2), Cormac Delaney (0-1), John Ogbebor (1-0), John Farquhar, Patrick Dineen, Billy Guerin, Dara McDonald, Alex Fogarty (0-1), Tom Power, Ronan O’Riordan, Jack Farquhar.
Rebel Óg East Minor Football League, Killeagh 2-12, Aghada 1-08, May 14th 2025
Killeagh Minor Football League v Aghada
Our minor footballers played their penultimate league group match against Aghada in Clashdermot, on Wednesday 14th May. The lads started very well, racing into a 2-3 to 0-0 lead after 12 minutes. The goals came from good interplay with both moves finished well by Andrew. We seemed to lose focus, and Aghada kicked the next 5 points. Some excellent defending and use of the ball from the back six and good workrate from midfield, saw us regain control and kick 3 further points to lead by 2-07 to 0-04 at half time. In the second half the lads continued to use the ball well. Further points from Ryan, Cathal and Andrew (all three kicked some excellent scores throughout) saw us win by 2-12 to 1-8.
It was good performance which leaves us with one more football league game to play, at home to Kiltha Og on Monday 19th May at 8.00 pm, where the winners will advance to the league final.
Team: Seanan McDonald, Tadgh Considine, Oran Cunningham, Patrick Dineen, Cian O’Riordan, Jack Coleman (0-1), Rian O’Connor, Alex Howey, Fionn Brennan, Andrew Brenner (2-2), Cathal Brennan (0-5, 0-2f), Ryan Murphy (0-3), Cormac Delaney, John Ogbebor, John Farquhar (0-1), Tom Power, Dara McDonald, Billy Guerin, Eoin Roche, Jack Farquhar, Ronan O’Riordan
