Juvenile

Fé 16 Notes:

The panel have continued to play their various league competitions over the past few weeks, with a number of games being played:

P1 Hurling

In a really competitive game in Riverstown, the old saying of “Goals win games” was shown to be true once more, when only goal of the game scored by Alex Molumby following a driving run from midfield proved to be the difference between the teams. The platform for the result was the work rate and determination shown by the players when they found themselves behind heading into the latter stages of the game while never giving up, especially in defence where the players worked as a unit to provide the opportunities for the forwards and secured the positive outcome.

Final Score: Midleton 1.21 – Sarsfields 0.22

Division 4 Hurling

The panel played a challenge game against near neighbours Carrigtwohill in glorious conditions on Saturday last in Park South, where great conditions were only matched by the displays on show. After a great hour of hurling, the teams could not be separated which was a fair result for all.

Final Score: Midleton 1.16 – Carrigtwohill 2.13

Division 4 football

The panel played their latest game of the league competition with a comprehensive result over Kilshannig where opportunities presented were taken. Final Score: Midleton 7.11 – Killshannig 2.04

Our fixtures continue at pace over the next couple of weeks prior to the break for state exams:

Div 4 Football vs Erins Own – Tuesday 13/05 at 19.00 - Caherlag

P1 Football vs Carrigaline – Wednesday 14/05 at 19.30 – Carrigaline

P1 Hurling vs Na Piarsaigh – Monday 19/05 at 19.15 – Clonmult Memorial Park

P1 Football vs St. Finbarrs – Monday 26/05 at 19.15 – Clonmult Memorial Park

Feile

On Sunday last we headed off up to MTU in glorious sunshine to compete in the Division 1 semifinal of this year’s Feile. We had being preparing diligently for the last few weeks and went up to the immaculately prepared venue as ready as we could be. First up were Ballincollig. From the throw in it was obvious that this was going to be a tight affair. The start was cagey with both sides finding scores hard to come by and we went in at half time a point down. The second half continued much the same with both teams giving there all. We were 2 points down with time running out and just when we needed it most we got a great goal. To their credit Ballincollig pegged us back to make a draw of this epic encounter. Maybe it was the fact that we shock off the nerves or the cobwebs we got into a bit of a groove in extra time and scored 1-5 to Ballincollig’s solitary point. A great win against a top class side in what must be said was a very high quality game. Both the level of hurling and commitment shown by both sides was a pleasure to see. Onwards then to the final against Ballinora. This was another game of the highest quality and commitment. We exchanged points and then we got a goal. Our lead was shortlived as they replied almost immediately. We went in at half time a point down but we thought there was more in us. The second half continued as the first with nothing between the teams. Our lads hurling out of their skins all over the field, every single player absolutely giving their all. At the end of the second half after we thought we lost and won the game these two sides ended up drawing 1-9 a piece. More extra time and excitement! Once again we exchanged points at the start of extra time. And then we got what we thought might be a game changing goal but once again this major was pegged almost immediately. Then in the second half of extra time with us a point down and our fellas cramping up all over the field due to the massive effort we got a fabulous equaliser. So after 2 brilliant matches, mighty scores, gallant defending and our lads running themselves into the ground it was down to the lottery of the golden score. Harsh way to end any match. Straight from the throw in we got a free five metres into our own half. The whole crowd held their breath as the absolutely impossible shot headed towards the goals. Unfortunately it just tailed despite the bravery, skill and heart it took to take such a pressure shot. From the resultant puck out Ballinora worked what has to be said a fabulous point thus breaking our hearts and winning this year’s feile. This group of lads once again proved that they are a fabulous, brave and skilful outfit that with 1 small extra bit of luck the day would have been theirs. Hard luck lads but well done on a tremendous effort. Thanks to all the organisers of the event, to Atif at Fourstar Pizza Midleton for the kind sponsorship and to all who do all the hard work behind the scenes coaching, organising etc. Thanks to the mighty Midleton support, to all the parents for bringing the lads every time. But mainly thanks to the lads for the massive effort, everyone of the panel should be proud.

Also a big thank you to the parents who drove on the day and gave our lads great support.
