Castlelyons play Blarney in Cork Red FM Division 3 Hurling League
Castlelyons head for Blarney this Thursday evening the 15th May to play the locals in Division three of the Red FM Hurling league. We could have started better this season but with an number of players out through injury etc we find ourselves in search of a few points to hold our place in Division three for next season. Overall, we are improving as more of the lads are coming back and, indeed, making great efforts. Best of luck lads.

Castlelyons 3-10 Abbey Rovers 0-16.
This game was played in Ballyhooley on Saturday evening. It was a case of goals win matches, and we got three of them thus overcoming a strong test from Abbey Rovers. It was tough going in the first half as Stephen Hickey showed his ability both as a shot stopper and quality kickouts. Again, our backs done well here and were Eoin McLoughlin the former Kilnamartyra player now resident in Castlelyons, Cahal Sheehan and Mark Rosner doing well. Abbey Rovers were three ahead before Jack Cremin scored a point from play and Richard Morrison got our first goal soccer style as the ball was played in over the backs he latched onto it and struck low into the corner of the net. We had two more points from Jack and a point from Brian Spillane in the first half, but all the time Abbey Rovers kept the scoreboard ticking over and they led 0-9 to 1-4 at half time.
We played better football in the second half with young Dylan Leetch doing very well at midfield and Peter Roche strong as well. Richard Morrison, Brian Spillane scored goals for us early in the second half and we added a few points through Jack Cremin accuracy from frees. We had three points to spare in the end with lots of room for improvement. We are now in the semi-final of this competition and our next game is on until early June so no doubt we will a bit more training and a challenge game. Well done to the team and management on their work to date. The referee was David Twomey of Shanballymore.

Kildorrery 3-12 Castlelyons 5-15.
This game was played in Kildorrery last Friday evening and the whole place was a hive of activity with new developments all over the place including the construction of a synthetic pitch and a camogie game on before our game. Our game was due to commence at 8pm but was just a little later but there were no worries as Kildorrery have lights also. Referee Denis Motherway got the game under way and Kildorrery started very well putting two points on the board and Josh Kinnane had to make a good save and our full back line were tight with Dylan Barrett doing well.
We got going as Ned Condon and Alex O’Brien began to get on top at midfield and Ned put over three points with one a great assist from Ewan McCarthy. However, Kildorrery really put us under pressure and Kinnane made another great catch in goal under pressure and cleared down field, but we were wide. Up Kildorrery came again and scored a point. Then a goalmouth shemozzle led to a goal for Kildorrery to put them 1-3 to 0-3 ahead. There was pressure but we did not panic with Josh making another great save and Dylan Barrett strong at full back. We had a point from John Moroney and crucially Ryan Wallace began to come to terms with the Kildorrery centre forward Brendan Fraher as he cleared a few great balls up field. Our forwards began to work very hard and N Condon, E McCarthy and C Cotter all really came into the game as we outscored Kildorrery to go 2-7 to 1-4. Then Declan Fraher of Kildorrery got a great goal and Ned Condon replied for us with a goal of his own. At this stage Mark Williams of Kildorrery was hurling well and fouled as they pointed to leave the half time score 3-8 to 2-7 in our favour.
After half time Kildorrery had a goal disallowed and we enjoyed a good spell as Ned Condon, Jamie O’Riordan, Christopher O’Sullivan and Cionnaith Cotter all scored as we ran out winners 5-15 to 3-12. Ned Condon had a great game scoring 3-9 and all our lads done well as Kildorrery played some great hurling, but we marked up well and prevented their efforts for scores. All our lines were called on at times throughout the game and were not found wanting. Our next game in the Under 14 championship is against Whitechurch who defeated St Catherines in round one. The game versus Whitechurch is on Friday 23rd May in Castlelyons at 7.30pm.

Lisgoold 2-6 Castlelyons 4-5.
Our Under 12 hurlers travelled to Lisgoold on to play the home team on Sunday evening and came away with a good win. Lisgoold started well and only for some great saves from Cian and great defending from Callaghan McCarthy and Charlie White we could well have been down a few goals at halftime. However, the sides went in level with our scores coming from Tom and Fionn. Castlelyons hurled much better in the second half as the lads upped the work rate around the middle. We got some great scores from lovely from Liam, Tom and Cian helped get us into the lead. Lisgoold did not bow and came back into the game again scoring a goal and some good points, but we held out for the win. Well done boys. We are now second in this league three wins and one defeat with one game to play. Bride Rovers top the table with four clear wins. There is no game this weekend so keep up the practice at home

Munster Senior Hurling Championship.
Next Sunday is a big day on the hurling scene for Cork. The Rebels head for the Gaelic Grounds to play Limerick in the Munster senior hurling championship and a win will ensure progression to the All-Ireland series and a possible Munster final. Cork now have a fully fit outfit, and no doubt team selection will be most important as Limerick are likewise and will be going all out for victory at home. All tickets are sold, and the weather outlook is good so we should have a cracker of a game. Best of luck t the team and management including our own man Niall O’Leary.
