BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.
SENIORS DEFEAT MALLOW.
On a weekend of non-stop action in every grade our Seniors and Junior C teams were in League action. The Seniors scored 4 28 and won while the Junior C team hit 3 24 and lost. The Minor hurlers had a good win over Blarney.
REDFM Senior Hurling League.
Bride Rovers defeat Mallow 4-28 to 3-16 in the Red FM hurling league. We travelled to sunny Castletowroche last Saturday evening to play Mallow in the Red FM SH -our opponents are playing one of the Championship Round robin in Castletown later in the season so they asked us to play on the superb pitch not far from The Old Rustic Bridge By The Mill.
After a high-scoring encounter Bride Rovers came out on top in a good hurling league game. A strong performance from Jason Pratt in goals and a crucial goal from Cormac O’Sullivan saw the Rovers win with a late push over Mallow who stayed in contention until near the end of the game. This result sees the Rovers in joint second place alongside Courcy Rovers and Blarney. The next match will see us face off against Lisgoold in an away game..

CORK GET TOUGH GROUP. Cork Senior Footballers got a tough Group in the All Ireland Qualifiers but with 3 of the 4 teams to progress Cork could still be in with a great shout. Cork’s Group includes Kerry, Roscommon and the loser of next weekend’s Leinster Final between Louth and Kildare.
LIMERICK ARENT GONE ANYWHERE!
Well the build-up is on for Cork and Limerick the weekend after next. Any doubts about Limerick after their Thurles draw were well and truly swept away in Walsh Park on Saturday night last. The Treaty men came, saw and conquered in a very impressive manner. The old Ennis Road grounds will be heaving on Sunday week when Cork go toe to toe with John Kiely’s men. Tipperary play Clare next Sunday with the losers here in dire danger of being out of the Munster Championship. I know I’m conservative, old-fashioned and a bit of a traditionalist but having Counties gone from the Munster and All Ireland series in early May is absolutely crazy and does nothing for hurling.
MINOR HURLING v BLARNEY. Grit, Determination, Hardness, Timber, Courage and Quality players right to the end are only some of the words that would sum up this win over Blarney in Minor A Hurling League. Rovers started well and created good scoring chances but didn’t convert the early opportunities, Blarney did take most of their chances and looked dangerous in their inside forward line. Jack’s puck outs were good and we fielded great ball through Conor and Shane with Cormac and Matty getting on the breaking ball and we started to convert to Points. The Muskerry based referee was very hard on our players and we were getting no favour from rough and lose hurling and deliberate fouling of our players and the ball. Blarney scored 2 Goals in the first half that we should have dealt with better but we kept trying even though we had nine wides but at the short whistle we were only 4 points down on a score line of Bride Rovers -11 Blarney 2-9.
At half time we reminded the lads that we were very much still in the game, that they were creating the chances and just to keep trying to do the right thing and win the second half. Fair play and credit to the young men from the bank of the bride and they made the Second Half a great battle indeed. We often say forwards win games but I’d have to say it was the tough, dogged quality of play from our six backs Ronan, Adam, Jamie, Gary, Darragh, Gary and Gearoid sweeping up ball as did midfielders Matty and Cormac in the second half that gave us the platform to turn the game to our advantage. We scored our first goal from Conor with Jack, Conor and Cormac contributing with point from Play & Frees. Sean at Centre Forward worked very hard as did Darragh, Con and Shane and we passed great ball around the forward line and took our very hard earned chances.
In the 51st minute it was Rovers 1-16 & Blarney 4-12 after our opponents scored 2 more goals, most teams might throw in the towel but that’s never in the Rovers spirit and they kept going we were improving right to the end and hunted everything more and got our reward with a second goal from Conor and 4 more unanswered points from our forwards & midfielders out scoring our opponents 1-4 to -0 in the last 10 minutes.
Really well done to the lads on a great & spirited win over Blarney on a Score Line of Bride Rovers 2-20 Blarney 4-12. Team & Panel Jack Lynch Ronan Barry Jamie Walsh Darragh Farrell Gearoid O Connell Adam Cronin Adam Kelleher Cormac Barry Matty Kenny Conor O Riordan Sean Dowling Shane O Dowd Jack Mannix James Larkin Gary Quirke Subs Darragh Delaney Shane Prendergast Con Mc Cormack. AMARENCO JHL DIV 4. Our Junior C hurlers played their 4th league match of the campaign on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend in glorious sunshine of Pairc Na Bride where Dungourney were the visitors for what proved to be a highly entertaining and high scoring game.Dungourney won the toss and opted to play with the wind in the 1st half. The first 10 minutes was a tight affair with both sides going score for score and saw the team’s level 1-5 a piece with our goal coming from William. Dungourney hit a purple patch and scored 1-4 to no response to see them into a 2-9 to 1-5 lead on the 20-minute mark. The lads responded well and a second goal from William who also added three points had the margin back to 3. Dungourney were looking dangerous in attack and got a third goal in the 28th minute but the lads finish the half well with 3 points to reduce the margin back to 4 at the break on a scoreline of 2-11 to 3-12. Dungourney got the opening score of the second half, but the lads got on top and points from William (3), Seamus, Ryan and Frank saw the team’s level again on the 45th minute on a score of 2-18 to 3-15. Both teams kept the pressure on a went point for point. When Eldon got through for our 3rd goal in 53rd minute things were looking up for us, but Dungourney responded immediately by going down the other end of the field and score their 4th goal. Another point from William saw the team’s level 3-21 to 4-18 on 55th minute. The lads were working hard and making the most of the wind but for every point we scored Dungourney found an equaliser, When William scored his 13th point of the game in injury time it looked like it would be enough to see us over the line but Dungourney had time for one last attack and won a free. Up stepped their very reliable free taker Paul Flynn and as his free was sailing over the bar to equalise the game the referee announced that he had seen two players holding each other - but seemingly he though one player was holding more than the other- in the box, so was awarding a penalty to Dungourney. Flynn made no mistake from the spot and the goal saw Dungourney winning out on a score line of 5-20 to 3-24. Team & Scorers: R O’Riordan, C O’Dowd, J Buckley, J Kearney, A Buckley, J Mannix, J O’Sullivan, S Ahern, C O’Sullivan, F O’Flynn, D O’Sullivan, R O’Callaghan, E O’Connor (1-0), W Finnegan, C O’Sullivan-Swalbe Subs: L Collins, B Collins, G Gubbins, M Manley, D Kelleher, S Boyce, C Howard. BRIDE ROVERS JUVENILE GAA NOTES
BUSY, BUSY TIMES.
Well done to the Cork under 15 hurlers who took on Wexford in the Arrabawn Coop Tournament last Saturday. The game was played in Pairc na Bride and thee was a great buzz around the place. Our own Cody Scanlon played for the Rebels who won by 3 15 to 2 11 after a slow start.
UNDER 13 hurling and football. The under 13 teams have had a busy
time with six games in two weeks.
Sat April 19th - Football - Bride Rovers 2 v St.Colmcilles 2
Our Team 2 football campaign got off to a difficult start as we travelled to St.Colmcilles to play them a few days after the respective first teams had met. Colmcilles flew out of the blocks and had 1-1 scored within 3 minutes. Our lads started settling in more into the game but found themselves under a wave of attacks from the strong running Whites Cross team. Colmcilles added two more points midway through the first half and on 20 minutes, hit Rovers for two goals in the space of a minute. They went on to get another point to make it 3-4 to 0-0 at the break.
The second half was a much more even affair as Rovers now started to run the ball a bit more. Cian Barry scored a fine point from play and then added another from a free. Colmcilles responded with a point but just as in the first half, Colmcilles struck for two scrappy goals in the space of a minute. Rovers responded with a Cian Barry free and then broke free to score a goal with five minutes to go. A much better second half to leave the final score: St. Colmcilles 2 5-5 Bride Rovers 2 1-3
Team: 1. Ryan Hogan, 2. James O'Leary 3. Cameron Hoare, 4. Oisín Dorgan, 5. Luke Fitzgerald, 6. Conor Dorgan, 7. Liam Harrington, 8. Aidee Carr (C), 9. Patrick O'Regan, 10. Ryan Field, 11. Tuesday April 22nd - Hurling - Bride Rovers v Youghal
A top of the table clash down by the sea resulted in Rovers first defeat of the league. Sickness struck the team in a bad way before and during this game as Rovers were forced to start without Jack Fitzgerald and shortly after throw-in, we lost a second midfielder, Conor Healy to illness also. Youghal started quickly and got a goal after 2 minutes as the ball bounced around the Rovers square and a Youghal man got a hurley in to get it past Noah Collins in goal. Youghal were proving to be strong opposition and were running in numbers at the Rovers defence. Youghal's centre forward scored the first of many frees in which he was awarded on the night and then Youghal added another to make it 1-3 to 0-0 after 6 minutes. No.11 would tack on another free before Tommy Conway got Rovers first point of the night after a powerful run. Adam Hackett scored a point from a long way out to give Rovers their second and suddenly we were coming to life. Adam swapped frees with the Youghal No.11 but Youghal would go onto add another three points to make it 1-7 to 0-3 at the break.
Rovers welcomed back Jack Fitzgerald at the start of the second half and he had an immediate impact with a goal after two minutes. The Youghal No.11 tacked on two more frees but on 12 minutes, Jack Fitz ran almost half the length of the pitch and buried the ball to make it 1-9 to 2-3. Rovers were now showing more guts but just couldn't capitalise on some good play. Youghal added two more scores before Jack Fitz got a point from a close in free that the Youghal keeper did well to save. Final score: Youghal 1-11 Bride Rovers 2-4
Team: 1. Noah Collins (C), 2. James O'Leary, 3. Cameron Hoare, 4. Denis Skillington, 5. Luke Fitzgerald, 6. Tommy Conway, 7. Alex McCarthy, 11. Conor Healy, 9. Conor Dorgan, 10. Matthew Finn, 14. Thursday April 24th - Hurling - Bride Rovers v Kilworth Araglen Óg
A large crowd turned out on a very breezy night in Pynes for this one. The first half was a tame affair with both teams' defences getting on top. Scores were hard to come by and Rovers were 0-1 to 0-0 up at half time through a Jack Fitzgerald point.
Kilworth got the first two points of the second half but that was to be it for them as Rovers took control of the game. Scores were still hard to come by but eventually Rovers started making it count on the scoreboard. Alex McCarthy got a point from a free before Jack Fitz got Rovers first goal of the game. On 15 mins, Adam Hackett scored the first of two goals for him, in 4 minutes. Conor Healy added a point on 22 minutes before Jack Fitz rounded off the scoring with a goal on 25 minutes to leave the final score, Bride Rovers 4-3 Kilworth Araglen Óg 0-2.

Wednesday April 30th - Hurling - Bride Rovers 2 v Sarsfields 2
Rovers travelled to Kiely Park for league game 2 in Division 4. Sarsfields showed their dominance from the start and were hungry for the ball as they hunted in packs. Rovers will be disappointed with their work rate up to half time, as they conceded some soft goals and never really got going. The second half was much improved and Rovers won the second half with good points from Seán O'Dowd (2), Patrick O'Regan (2) and Tiarnán Lyons. Final score: Bride Rovers 2 0-5 Sarsfields 2 6-8

Friday May 2nd - Football - Bride Rovers v Carrigtwohill
Game 2 in the league turned out to be a very frustrating night. With no referee, both sides took charge of a half each. Despite looking devastating at times, Rovers were far too exposed in defence. We got off to a flying start with two Conor Healy points in the first two minutes. Between the 6th and 14th minute, Rovers would concede 3-2 with some sloppy goals being conceded. On 20 minutes, we finally clicked into gear and started chipping into the 9 point deficit. Conor Healy scored a penalty on 21 mins and in a four minute spell, Rovers added 1-4 with points from Tommy Conway, Noah Collins, Cian Barry and Patrick O'Regan and a goal from Cian Barry to put us a point up. Carrigtwohill would add a point to make it all square at the break; 2-6 to 3-3.
The second half was nip and tuck with both teams taking the lead at various stages. Carrigtwohill opened with a goal but Noah Collins replied in kind for Rovers. Conor Healy put us a point up on 10 mins and three minutes later, converted his second penalty of the night to put Rovers 4 up. Tommy added another to put us 5 ahead with 10 minutes to go. However, Carrigtwohill broke down the field and scored two goals in two minutes to go one up. With three minutes to go, Noah would get his second goal of the game and Rovers were back in front. Carrigtwohill added 1-1 in the final two minutes to leave the final score, Carrigtwohill 7-4 Bride Rovers 5-8. An exciting game but one we left behind us.

Saturday May 3rd - Football - Bride Rovers 2 v Midleton 2
If ever a scoreline didn't reflect a performance, this was it. The final score may have read Midleton 4-10 Bride Rovers 0-1 but the performance of our players was fantastic. Every player gave 100% and were full of running and support for teammates. we just couldn't convert chances that came our way. A hugely encouraging performance.
