UNDERAGE STARS SHINE WITH REBELS
We begin this week with a bualadh bos mór for our Rebel Óg stars who are shining bright in the red and white! Well done to Cormac and Ben on their involvement with the Cork Minor hurlers who beat Waterford by 1-21 to 1-15 in Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday April 25th. Cormac had an outstanding game, continuing his great form, scoring 0-8 in Cork’s win. The minors followed this up with a win against Tipperary (2-17 to 1-12) last Friday, and thus go into the Munster Final against Waterford with a 4 from 4 record. The final will be played on Friday week, May 17th in the proverbial “home of hurling”, FBD Semple Stadium! Meanwhile, the Cork U20 hurlers will play Clare in the Munster semi-final on Wednesday next in Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 7.35 p.m. after defeating Waterford last week by 3-21 to 0-18, with Ben Walsh, Barry Walsh and Dylan McCarthy all playing their part in ensuring Cork reach this stage. Well done to all!
MATCH REPORTS
Amarenco Junior Football League 2, Bride Rovers 1.07, Glenbower Rovers 3-13, April 25th 2025
The journey to Rathcormac on the last Friday in April for our fifth junior football league match proved to be a fruitful one as we returned home with another two points in the bag and an increased confidence that our football trajectory is on the up. Our young players are enjoying the new rules and expressing themselves on the pitch, while seasoned campaigner Davy Kelleher played the first half as a menacing inside forward and then came out around midfield to act as visionary quarterback, spraying passes from five to fifty metres with ease around the attacking half. The first half saw the foundations for this victory laid with three goals from Fionn Murphy, the aforementioned Davy and the returning Richie Long, while our back six continued their impressive defending by limiting our hosts to just two scores - an scór ag leath-am – 0-02 to 3-10. The intensity understandably slipped a little in the second half but we were never really troubled, with the highlight being an outstanding point-blank save from cúl báire Colin Walsh in the final minute. Wouldn’t we love to see that now in an East Cork Junior A Final with a slender two-point lead in injury time! And let’s get practising those two-pointers at training!
Team: Colin Walsh, Fionn Brennan, George Walsh, Robbie Treacy, Keane Budds, Brendan Delaney, Dara Motherway, Sean Walsh, Rob Sinclair, Evan Lane, Richie Long, Eoin Brenner, Paudie Mackey, Davy Kelleher, Fionn Murphy, Padraig Leahy, Bryan McCarthy.
Red FM Division 7 Hurling League Killeagh 3-16, Kilshannig 1-15, April 30th 2025
Red FM Division 2 Hurling League Killeagh 2-20, Ballincollig 0-25 May 2nd 2025
An upward trajectory in the hurling also this week with two fine wins at home, beginning with the Division 7 league game against Kilshannig on Wednesday evening last. The novelty of playing new teams in this league continues, and our visitors Kilshannig (to our knowledge the first time we have welcomed an adult team from Kilshannig) certainly played their part in making this a very entertaining game. A quick start from both teams saw us lead 0-4 to 0-3 before Ciaran O’Rourke raised the first green flag (an exquisite pass from Jamie Fogarty set him up) and when Paudie Mackey added a second on 19 minutes (Kevin Murphy with the assist) we led by 2-07 to 0-05. Our opponents kept the scoreboard ticking over with points, leaving us ahead by 2-09 to 0-09 at reiteoir Niall Hayes’ half-time whistle. Ciaran added a second goal on 37 minutes (Mikey Fitz the provider this time) to push our lead out to seven points and we maintained that to the finish, in spite of a goal from Kilshannig on 51 minutes. Christy Coughlan, Kevin Murphy and Robbie Treacy excelled in defence while all six starting forwards got on the scoresheet. We now sit in joint second place in the league with four games left – away to Nemo Rangers, Killavullen and Diarmuid O Mathunas and at home to Douglas.
Team: Colin Walsh, Allen Keniry, Christy Coughlan, Aidan Morrison, Robbie Treacy, Kevin Murphy, Gary Lehane, Mikey Fitzgerald, Ritchie Landers, Keane Budds, Jamie Fogarty, Dan Landers, Paudie Mackey, Ciaran O’Rourke, Dan Walsh, Dan Smiddy.
On Friday May 2nd our senior hurlers hosted Ballincollig in Páirc Uí Chinnéide and came out victorious after a competitive game. Level 0-13 each at half-time, two goals in the third quarter – from Richie Long and Ryan McCarthy – gave us a six point lead at one stage – 2-19 to 0-19 – and although Ballincollig whittled it down to one, we held on for a vital win, which moves us back up the table to joint second position after 5 games. With six points already gathered, we are almost sure to preserve our place in Division 2 for 2026, while a run of further good results could see us in the shake up for promotion back to Division 1, which would be a truly magnificent achievement. Four matches left – away to Na Piarsaigh, Valley Rovers and Midleton, and at home to Eire Óg. Drive on lads!
Team: Philip O’Neill, Darragh O’Brien, Pa O’Brien, Brendan Delaney, Andy Walsh, Dinny Walsh, George Walsh Wallace, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Evan Lane, Ryan McCarthy, Richie Long, Shane Smiddy, Dave Buckley, Dara Motherway, Dylan McCarthy, Colm Leahy, Ciaran Leahy, Robbie Treacy, Sean Walsh.
Rebel Óg East Minor Hurling League, Killeagh 2-32, Aghada, April 23rd 2025
Our Minor Hurlers continued their league campaign with a home tie against Aghada on April 23rd. The lads started very well, hitting some good team scores early. Our defence attacked the ball well and delivered quality ball to the lads upfront. We led comfortably at half time. Management made some changes but performance levels didn’t drop in the second half. We used all 23 players and ran out winners on a score line of 2-32 to 1-8.

Rebel Óg East Minor Football League, Midleton 2-09, Killeagh 2-12, April 30th 2025
Our Minor Footballers continued their league campaign away to Midleton in Park South, on Wednesday 30th April. It was a good, competitive match throughout. We got a boost from an early Cormac Delaney goal and a 2 pointer from Cathal Brennan. We played some fine football, with our finishing leaving us down on occasion. The half time score was Killeagh 1-8, Midleton 0-6.
In the second half the lads continued to use the ball well and another goal from Cathal put us in a commanding position. We kicked a few excellent points before Midleton rallied with two late goals to leave a nervy finish. The final score saw us emerge winners on a final score of 2-12 to 2-9.
Best for Killeagh on the day were Tadgh, Fionn (who was outstanding midfield, repeatedly winning kickouts and driving forward), Cian, Jack, Aidan, Andrew (kicked 5 excellent points) and Cathal.

HEALTHY CLUBS WORKSHOP A GREAT SUCCESS
Well done to our Healthy Clubs Team and Officer Liz Sinclair for organising an excellent workshop on May Day in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. Three excellent speakers – Dr Ant Kiernan on Stress Management, Jen O’Callaghan on Performance Nutrition, and Niall McCarthy on Resilience, kept the attendance focused for the full session. Thanks also to Cork County Council for their support in running this event.
Our next Monthly Walk is due to take place next Sunday May 11th when we return to our Kilworth Camp Trail. This was a fantastic success when we walked it last summer, so it’s back, as they say, “by popular demand”. Get out in the clear air, with us or with others or on your own – go for it!
