BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.
TONY WALSH CUP COMES HOME.  Having been in Waterford, Carlow and Limerick over the years the Tony Walsh Cup came back home last Saturday. We were due to play South Liberties of Limerick but late in the week they informed us that they were unable to field a team. Fair play to Lismore who agreed to take part in the Tournament at short notice. The men in Black and Amber were somewhat depleted in terms of numbers but played a good game against our lads.  The Cork Senior Hurlers had a great win against Tipperary on Sunday. This victory puts the Rebels in a great position to get one of the three  qualifying places from the Munster Championship. With a nice three week break before going to Limerick for what should be a handy game against John Kiely’s side. Then a home game against Waterford will finish out the Round Robin section. We have plenty games coming up and host a Group in the Feile u 15 Hurling on Bank Holiday Monday.  The Tony Walsh Final was a lively game and though we won by 2 20 to 0 12  Lismore made it competitive all through. After the match Michael Walsh presented the Cup to Rovers captain Conleith Ryan. Thanks to the Walsh family for their support.  Team:
J. Pratt, O. Roche, J. Peters, K. Cotter, C. Hazelwood, E. Roche, S. O’Connor, J. Manix, C. Tobin, A. Walsh, C. Barry, L. Roche, C. Ryan, P. O’Flynn, D. Barry.
MINOR FOOTBALL v Kilworth/Araglin. With only 14 Minors available due to injuries and Mid Term Holidays we were again very glad of  4 of the U16 players that togged out and contributed well to the result.
Our opponents opened the scoring with a point and we answered with 2 points, we were struggling to hold possession of the wet and slippery ball on the hard and fast sand based pitch that was very firm considering  the wet week we had. Kilworth  were more clinical in front of the posts scoring another 1-2. Our lads tried hard  but failed to take our scoring chances leaving the score at the short whistle Kilworth/Araglen  1-2 to -3 points.
The second half was a real battle as we narrowed the scoring gap but in reply they got  1-5 and we were in trouble with 10 minutes to go. Our subs Bobby, Jeff & Evan helped with good possession helping with scores from play and also won frees. With  7 minutes to go we started to play faster football, through the hands, and scored 2-3 without reply to win the game by 2 points. Well done lads on the result and Final Winning Score 2-9 to 2-7.
We move on to our next Minor Hurling Match away to Blarney Monday 5th of May. FOOTBALL FEILE. Under15 Football Feile.
We travelled to Aghada on Saturday morning to compete in Division 1 of Football Feile.  As we are joined with the u16s this year it was our first outing of the year on our own. The other teams in Division 1 were very familiar to us!. Our 3 team group was with Midleton and Glenville.  Midleton had got the better of Glenville in the first game so we knew Glenville were ‘win or burst’ in our game. The lads were in good form and looking forward to the experience.  As always with games against the neighbours it was a tight affair  and the 15 minute aside doesn't leave time to do much.  However the lads started excellently and played some smashing football in wet conditions.  We were 1-3 to 0-2 up at the half-time.  The goal from Fionn L after a great team move. Liam got 2 points and Fionn L got the other from a free. Glenville threw everything at us in the second half but a savage defensive display limited them to 3 points. With Dominiks in goals relieving pressure with long kickouts. Danny, Jack, Zack, Alex, Cody,  Cathal M and Cormac  fought for every ball in defence.
We got two points to leave the final score Bride Rovers 1-5 Glenville 0-5.  Sam, Liam , Sean F,  Sean H and Ciaran also put in a huge shift working back to defend. Up front the 2 Fionns Daniel and Sean O'L were always an outlet to hold up the ball and pick off a score. After a short break we were  back in action against Midleton - the winner going to the final against Aghada who had won the other group. This match proved to be a huge battle with both sides giving it everything for the 30 mins. At half-time we were level 3 points each.  Ciaran with 1 from play and Fionn L 2 frees.  The final 15 mins saw Midleton score 4 points to our 2 ( Liam from play and Fionn free) we had chances but Midleton just managed to keep out the goal we needed.  In fairness to the 17 lads every single one of them gave everything they had , if we can do the same this coming weekend for hurling Feile we'll be happy.
Feile Panel:
Dominiks Vikstrems(captain) Jack O'Donovan, Danny Walsh, Cathal Murphy,  Zack Morrissey, Alex Kulyk, Cody Scanlan,  Cormac Lyons, Sam Kearney,  Liam Carr, Sean Finn, Ciaran  O'Donovan,  Sean Healy,  Fionn Lynch , Fionn Collins,  Daniel Dorgan and Sean O'Leary.
Hurling feile details have been released.  We are hosting our section on Monday in the main pitch.
We have a 3 team group of Shandrum, Sars and ourselves.  The action starts at 10:30 with ourselves and Sars. At 11:30 Shandrum and Sars and we finish at 12:30 against Shandrum.  It's a good competitive group to say the least!

REBEL OG UNDER 14 HURLING LEAGUE.
Aghada 2-8
Bride Rovers 3-2. On last Saturday April 26th our u14s travelled to Aghada for our 4th round of the hurling league.
We needed support from our u13 panel with Easter holidays but in fairness we were not short heart and determination throughout the game.
There was strong breeze against us in the first half and we found ourselves 7 points down at half time but that could have been a lot more only for the resilience of the entire defence and support from midfielders to keep the score within reach at half time.
We regrouped at half time and went out and tackled the second half with intent and purpose and using the aid of the wind we got right back into the match to bring the game within a score but didn't get enough to get past our opponents who equally fought the wind and attacks as well did in the first half.
Defences don't always get the praise they deserve sometimes but it was very evident the importance of work-rate and attitude when facing a head wind but both teams stood to the challenge today.
Our team was
Noah in goal with Denis, Killian and Senan in the full back line. Alex, Ollie and Tommy in the half back line. Jack and Conor midfield. Seán, Ruarí and Padraig in the half forward line. Eoghan , James and Harry completing the starting line out with Patrick and James starting on bench but came on to add to the game.
Overall management took the positives from the match and while down a few players others stepped up to the challenge with championship coming in the next few weeks the team is shaping up and making good progress.
Our next fixture is away to our neighbours Castlelyons in the football league on the 6th of May.
UNDER 16 D4 Hurling v Eire Og

We travelled to Ovens last Friday night for our hurling league game. This was our best performance by this group so far this year which was completely dominant from the start. The scoring started in the 2nd minute with a point from Fionn Lynch which was followed by another from Sean Finn. Bobby started at centre forward and scored in the 5th min with Fionn Lynch scoring 3 further in the next 10 mins and Bobby again in between. Fionn Collins went direct for goal before we changed up with all 6 subs coming on in the 20th. Luke Murphy entered the fray with a point which was followed by 2 by Calum Somers. Recent return Matthew Swalbe O'Sullivan ended the scoring on the 30th. Overall we were on top but Eire Og were missing some players with only 1 sub. Euan held the centre back position and dominated the game delivering great ball with our midfield winning great breaks.
Calum opened the scoring in the second half with Matthew, Dazzler, Luke Murphy  2 and Dylan further strengthening the lead. Luke drove through for the 2nd goal in the 47th with Dazzler scoring 2 late points to make this a comprehensive 2-19 to 6 point victory.

Next up for D4 is a football game v Macroom away on Friday night.

Under 16 P2 Football v Erins Own

We returned to the top of the football league on Monday night following a great 1 point win over Erins Own in Pynes on Monday night. Erina own had won their 3 games so this was always going to be difficult and we were also missing the 2 elder statesmen of the team...Cathal and Bobby who were injured.
Playing against a stiff breeze we were 1-1 to no score down within 2 minutes and things looked ominous. However in a great flowing move Cody got forward from wing back to touch a long ball to the net after 3. We were level after 5 with Finn scoring a free which he followed up with another from play in the 9th. Oliver and Cody were driving forward from the half back line and both scored points in the 14th and 16th before Michael scored a cracking goal in the 16th. He followed up with 2 points in the remainder of the half with Finn finishing the scoring with another free  to leave us 2-7 to 1-6 ahead.
Erins Own started the second half showing great determination to score 1-2 without reply before Dinagh settled us following a brilliant driving run from full back in the 38th. The remainder of the game was pure nip and tuck. Our backs tightened up to restrict further goal chances as Erins Own drove on against the wind, Michael had 2 more points before Oliver again, Michael and Oliver had us level with time entering 3 minutes injury time. With Oliver driving forward in the 63rd minute he was fouled and left us with a free with then last kick of the game which Finn nailed to leave us on a winning score of 2-14 to 2-13.
A great team performance against an excellent Erins Own team. Next up for P2 is hurling Wednesday week at home v Mallow.
Our U15s have Feile on Monday with Cody having Cork duty on Saturday morning. Cork U15s are playing Wexford on Saturday morning at 12 in the main pitch.
WELL DONE IN DROMAHANE. Congrats to local horse trainers Michael ‘Trixie’ Barry and Jonathon Sweeney on their wins at Dromahane Point to Point Races last Sunday. With Garrett Ahern and David Barry also recently visiting various Winners Enclosures these are great times for the equestrian sports in the Bride Valley.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL. Never say die' attitude on display by Bride Rovers junior footballers.
Our junior footballers showed the true Rovers spirit right to the end of this entertaining league encounter in Páirc na Bríde on Friday evening.
With a plethora of late withdrawals from the match-day panel through injury and self-preservation, we were delighted that midfield dynamos Luke Harrington (resident of Poland), rugby star Darragh O'Sullivan, local  star Rami Gharib and the experienced Ben Hogan all made themselves available. Also, Ryan O'Callaghan shrugged of injury to captain the side on the evening. And they truly put their shoulder to the wheel against this experienced Glenbower Roversside featuring 12 of the side who won East Cork Junior A Hurling title with Killeagh last year.
The first half was challenging, with Glenbower adapting to the conditions better in the first 20 minutes. Despite strong defending by Jordan Mannix, John Buckley, Adam Hynes and Liam Collins, we were breached on three occasions during this time. As the half progressed, Darragh O'Sullivan and John O'Sullivan started contesting well in the air, Luke Harrington and Seamus Ahern really started to drive at the Glenbower defence. Some nice interplay involving Gearóid Gubbins and Ryan O'Callaghan saw us chalk up two deserved points in the second quarter through threat-in-chief Seamus Aherne. Pressure applied by Mike Manley, Ryan Cahill, Nicky Kelleher prevented Glenbower from clearing their lines easily during this spell of Rovers pressure.
Half-time allowed the team to regroup, take stock and the players identified a number of priorities to turn the tide in the second half. Subs Rami Gharib, Cillian O'Sullivan were providing good outlets for passes, Jake Tobin and Ryan O'Callaghan showed more composure, and suddenly Darragh and Ronan O'Riordan were becoming serious threats when kicking from distance. Ben Hogan's kick-out targeted our players who were keener to contest and especially sweep up breaking ball and this effort saw us outscore Glenbower in the second half. Highlights of the half were a well-dispatched goal from Seamus, as well as an inspired point from Ciarán O'Dowd having being involved in a double interception in defence just moments before. It was great to see Murat Abdallah make a late cameo after travelling from college to represent his club.
Well done to the lads on this fine effort for the cause, on a night when our minor footballers enjoyed a fine win. Well done to junior football panellists Conor O'Riordan, Ronan Barry, Cormac Barry, Jack Mannix, Gearóid O'Connell and Adam Cronin on this victory.
Jordan Mannix, John O'Sullivan and Seamus Aherne were all involved the last time our club won adult championship silverware - the 2021 Junior A football success, and will provide leadership as this new group continue to develop and reach these heights again. Their next game is on Fri 9th May against Dungourney.

CORK MINORS IN MUNSTER FINAL. Well done to Denis Fitzgerald and his Rebel colleagues on the great win over Waterford last week. Cork still have to play Tipperary -on this Friday night may 2nd in Pairc ui Rinn at 7 0 clock. Regardless of the result of this game Cork will be in the provincial Final on Friday May the 16th.
EAST CORK JHL DIV1. We travelled to Páirc Tadhg Mac Cárthaigh last Wednesday night for our 4th game of the East Cork division 1 hurling league campaign and in search of our first league points. This was a lively game and we had the better of the first half. Scores from Jason, Seamus and Jordan got us going and the sides were level 3 a piece after 10 minutes. Conor got our next 7 points and things were looking good as we lead 10 points to 6 after 25 minutes.  Sars finished the half well but points from Jason and Shaun helped us to a 3 point lead 13 points to 10 at the break.
Sars started the second half better and an early goal brought the game back to all square. They out scored us 2-2 to a point in the first 10 minutes of the half to take a 4 point lead. Slowly but surely our lads worked their way back into the game and points from Shaun (3), Conor, Cillian and DJ saw the sides back level again on a score of 20 points to 2-14 in the 55th minute.
Disaster struck from the next Sars attack as Eldon cleared a goal bound shot from out of our square and as we were coming out of defence with the ball a local umpire decided to the surprise of everyone in the area to wave the green flag and a goal was given to restore Sars 3 point lead. This took the wind out of our sails and Sars got the next three points. Conor got a bullet of a goal in added time to reduce the margin back to 3 but time ran out and Sars won out on a score line of 3-17 to 1-20.
Dates have been arranged for our final three league fixtures with Midleton next up in Rathcormac on Tuesday the 6th of May. A trip to Cloyne on Monday the 12th follows before we finish up at home to Castlemartyr on Monday the 19th of May. Final Score 1-20 to 3-17 loss
