REDFM CO. HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 5

AGHABULLOGUE 1-21 MIDLETON 1-18

Our intermediate hurlers travelled to Coachford on Thursday night to take on the unbeaten Aghabullogue in a repeat of the 2023 County Final. This was keenly contested encounter throughout and five points from frees from Aaron Mulcahy and points from play from Cian Crowley (2), Paul Connaughton and Cathal Beausang saw us go in a the half-time break trailing by a goal on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-9.

We got off to a bright start to the second-half to cut the gap but then Aghabullogue pressed on to lead by six at one stage but a Dara Scanlon goal set up a grandstand finish but the home side finished well to win by a goal and make it four league wins from four.

Next up for this team is a home game with Ballygarvan on Saturday, May 3.

Scorers: Aaron Mulcahy 0-10, Paul Connaughton 0-3, Dara Scanlon 1-0, Cian Crowley 0-2, Conor Morley 0-1, Cathal Beausang 0-1, Leo Hennessy 0-1.

Juvenile

Fe15s Football Feile panel 2025

All roads led to the Aghada Gaa grounds in Rostellan for this year’s football Feile on Saturday. Wewere in a group with Bride Rovers and Glenville and despite the wind and the rain the lads were right up for the challenge. First up was Glenville who we had very fortunate win in the league recently so we were aware of the challenge ahead. This game was tight all the way through with some good football being played by both sides. With 2 minutes to go we were only 2 points to the good but the forwards clicked eventually at the end for us to win 2-4 to 1-1. Next up was Bride Rovers. We usually are slow starters in general but we thought the first match would get the lads going but alas a sluggish first 10 minutes in this game was nearly costly. The lads did get up to speed eventually and after what was the toughest game of the day managed to get the win 0-7 to 0-5.

These victories meant we were in the group final against the host club Aghada. Even though we are near neighbours we hadn’t played the green and white in a number of years so we were going a little into the unknown. We played our best football of the weekend in this game and went in at half time 3-1 to 1-1 up. We continued to tack on the scores in the second half to run out eventual winners 4-4 to 1-1.

Job done on Saturday so off we went to the MTU grounds on bank holiday Monday to play in the semi final. Our opponents on the morning were Naomh Abán. All the lads were ready for action and raring to go. We hit the ground running for once and were playing nice football to go in 3 points up at half time. But despite having a lot of the ball in the second half we were finding it hard to convert this possession into scores. As the game wore on our opponents found it easier to find the scores and our football Feile dreams were dashed on a 1-3 to 1-6 score line.

We hoped the lads enjoyed the Feile Experience even though we were unlucky not to go a bit further. They can be proud of their performance over the weekend and thanks lads for the effort.

We’d like to thank Atif at Fourstar Pizza Midleton for their kind sponsorship, to Aghada Gaa for the use of their immaculate grounds and for providing generous refreshments. And to all the Feile organisers and to all the lads for all the unseen work.

Onwards now to the hurling feile in a couple of weeks… details to follow

Fé6

After their well earned Easter break the U6 boys will return to Clonmult Memorial Park this Saturday morning at 10am for their very first Gaelic football session. We will be doing gaelic football every fourth week after 3 weeks of hurling. No need for hurleys and helmets this weekend but gumshields are required. Lots of fun and games involving a football will be enjoyable for all, even those who may not have the same interest as they do in hurling. Looking forward to seeing all the boys returning again this Saturday morning for more fun, games and madness. As always new members are always welcome to join.
