Junior Hurling
Our Junior hurlers travelled to Carrigtwohill last week for their latest fixture in the Amarenco division 1 league. Although the team finished losing by 2-18 to 1-11 there were still plenty of positives, as the reds put in a very solid effort right from the off against a strong Carrigtwohill outfit.
 Leading marksman, Daire Coughlan scored five of our first six points, with James O'Donovan providing a fine finish to notch the other.  Carrig' ended the half strongly and with a number of experienced campaigners in their side, built up a 1-11 to 0-6 lead at the interval.    They stretched the advantage to a handsome 2-14 to to 0-8, approaching the final quarter, after Dave Lawton and James Lawton had raised the flags for the reds.  Credit to Castlemartyr who stuck to their task and worked all the way to the last whistle, getting rewards via points by Daire Coughlan and Jack Smiddy and a goal by Sean Morgan, who had impressed throughout the hour.Team -  Derek Bowens, Dave Lawton, Eoin Ronayne, Odhran Cantwell, Tom Fleming, Mike Cosgrove, David Lynch, Mike O'Dwyer, Niall O'Donovan, Daire Coughlan, Cormac Lynch, Sean Morgan, Jack Smiddy, Peter Fleming  and James O'Donovan.
Intermediate Hurling
Many of Tuesday's side were togged again on Saturday as our intermediate team took on Midleton in the Red FM division 5 clash at home.  Certainly there is a bit of an injury jinx in the camp at the moment and coupled with the unavailability of other regulars, Castlemartyr were short several of their likely starting championship team later this year.  Nevertheless, despite a 1-21 to 0-17 defeat, the hosts did play some good hurling and did a lot of good things during the course of  the hour.  The regret was  a high wide count which certainly helped sway a bit of space on the final scoreboard.  
Gavid Reddy's goal for MIdleton on nine minutes was the eye catching early score, after Darragh Leahy had opened our scoring count..   Some fine play from Conor Whyte and Jack McGann along with well taken points by Andrew Kelly, Billy McGann and Eoghan Martin kept the reds in the wing mirrors of their opponents as they headed for the half time team talk two pints adrift  - 1-9 to 0-10.   
Midleton went about their business in determined fashion after the resumption shooting into a 1-16 to 0-12 lead by the 44th minute.  Points by Eoghan Martin and Andrew Kelly, being the only interruption in a sequence which saw some long range points by the  visitors.   Midleton never lost that grip on the contest thereafter and Jack McGann, who continued to hurl well, kept the Castlamartyr scoreboard ticking over - but unfortunately the goal ... or two... needed to alter the balance never arrived.
It means after six games Castlemartyr now have six points , ahead of a  visit to second placed Tracton on Sunday week - June 2nd (11.30am)

Our Junior footballers are on the road this Thursday evening for their final league fixture in division 1 , as they meet Erin's Own in Caherlag at 7.30pm. 
John Mullins Aims For Europe
Our main club sponsor - John Mullins of Amarenco is busy these days as canvassing intensifies in advance of the European elections early next month. John has been a massive supporter of all things surrounding Castlemartyr GAA for a number of years and is now setting his sights on a seat in the European Parliament. John has a wealth of experience in a variety of areas and is former CEO of Bord Gáis, president of Cork Chamber and chairman of the Port of Cork.  
Speaking last month as he was confirmed as a Fine Gael Munster candidate, John promised that he would be a fresh voice for Europe. “I believe I will be bringing a different profile to European politics, one which is based on the best part of 30 years in business and civic life and I still have plenty of energy to give.  My intention is to be a fresh new voice for Ireland, and Ireland South, but more importantly to bring the skills I’ve built up by working in Europe over the past 25 years, in countries in Eastern, Central and Western Europe. I know Europe very well, I’ve done business there and I know how to negotiate and I want to bring that capability to the fore on behalf of Ireland.”
