Seniors Lose Late-On to Valley Rovers

The senior hurlers travelled to Brinny last Thursday evening to take on Valley Rovers in the league. Valleys started better heading into a 3 points to 1 lead after 7 minutes. Alan Fenton reliable on the frees as always and keeping the scoreboard ticking over after Leon Doocey was fouled to help level up the game after 10 mins. Castlelyons defence was on top with Colm Barry and Colm Spillane doing all the simple things right. Alan had the opportunity to put us into the lead from a free after Spillane made a daring run. Valleys responded with a free of their own but an impressive point from Oscar Hallihan from midfield placed us 0-06 to 0-05 in the lead after he dispossessed the valleys midfielder. We went into a bit of a purple patch for the remainder of the half with Alan Fenton extending the lead with a great score from the middle of the field. Brian Spillane followed in a long ball from Alan that bounced off the post and flicked the ball to the net to place us 6 points in the lead 1-08 to 0-05. We finished the half well tagging on 3 more points to deservedly lead 1-11 to 0-07. The 2nd half was a disappointing affair really. Colm Spillane was taken off at the break in a tactical move as he continues to work his way back from injury and when Colm Barry went off injured shortly after, our defence came under pressure with these key figures sidelined. Vally Rovers scored 2 sloppy goals and even a penalty converted by Alan Fenton couldn’t steady the ship as we ended up losing by 1 point to a resurgent Valley Rovers side on a scoreline of 2-16 to 2-17.

Team: J Barry (0-01), J O’Leary, C Barry, Peter Roche,  M Rosner, Colm Spillane, Oscar Hallihan (0-03), E Maye (0-01),  A Fenton (1-10, 1-07f), R Fenton (0-01), B Murphy, S Cotter, B Spillane (1-00), L Doocey, Colm McCarthy

What a Win for the Rebels!

Cork humbled the Premier County last Sunday in Thurles in what was a real drubbing for the home side. A tight first half led into an absolute dominant 2nd half display from cork as they romped home, thanks to 3 goals from Blackrock’s Alan Connolly and and all round great team display. Even our own star Niall O’Leary got in on the scoring act with a first half point. Her’s hoping that results this weekend can go our way and we live to fight another day in the quest for Liam
