Juniors Triumph in 2nd League Outing

We welcomed Fr. O’Neills to Castlelyons last Tuesday week in the 1st round of the Div 2 East Cork League. Our opponents play at Junior A level so we expected a stiff test. Many of our troops had gained a lot of experience playing with the senior side recently so we knew that we had the ability to bring the game to the Ladysbridge/Ballymacoda outfit on our home soil. The lads had the honour of wearing our brand new set of jerseys for the first time on the night and put in a great display. Two first half Brian Spillane goals helped us to an impressive first half display where we led 2-08 to 0-09 at the break. Peter Roche, aided Brian in attack with 2 points from play and Liam Moroney and Colm McCarthy excelled in the spine of our defence. Veteran Ciaran McGann popped up with a delightful point after collecting the ball 40 yards from goal and swinging a shot over his shoulder through the posts. We kept the high standards for the 2nd half and continued to out hurl our opponents and never let them get a foothold in the game. Brian O’Donovan and then Cees Kouwenburg did well on the frees. Rob Feeney and Ronan Fenton both deservedly got their names on the score sheet as we ended up winners on a final score of 2-14 to 0-13. Well done to the players and management. And special thanks to our sponsors East Cork Oil for their support and sponsoring our new set of jerseys. Next up for our Juniors is a league game on the 23rd April against neighbours Bride Rovers which is fixed for Castlelyons. Castlelyons Abú
