BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.
REBEL ROVERS FINGERS CROSSED.
With €500,000 in prizes, 12 monthly draws and 360 chances to win excitement s mounting in advance of the Rebels Bounty Cork GAA Members Draw tonight. The Draws for January, February and March will go ahead tonight Thursday March 28th and will be livestreamed. Best of luck to all the Bride Rovers Members joined the Draw. The first three draws of Rebels' Bounty 2024 will take place on this Thursday, March 28th in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 7pm. As draw will be streamed live, we would ask that all those attending to be seated at 6.45pm.Draws for January, February and March will take place on this date. Ticket sales will close at 1pm on the day of the draw. It won't be possible to purchase tickets or enter members for Rebels' Bounty 2024 after that point.
Rebel Og Under 14 Premier 2 hurling league.
Youghal 2-10 Bride Rovers 2-4
The under14s had their first hurling league game on Saturday against Youghal in Youghal. The game was played in a gale force wind which was straight down the pitch. Youghal had the wind in the first half and made good use of it. They were 2-8 to 0-2 up at half-time. Our lads knew a better effort was required to reverse that lead. I'd say we had the four seasons in the second half, and after 15 minutes the wind totally died down which left the task all that harder. We managed to score 2-2 to get closer but the wind calming made it easier for Youghal to clear the ball. We held the Seasiders to just 2 points in the second half A lot to work on but plenty positives from the game also.
We have no game this weekend so a chance for some training.
Next game is hurling at home to Sarsfields on Friday week 5th April at 7.
WEEKEND RESULTS. WE had three hurling league games last weekend Senior and East Cork JHL Games in Divisions 2 and 4. . While we lost the three matches we had some great displays. Results; Sat March 23rd Div 4 JHL Erins Own 1 8 Bride Rovers 0 7. Sunday march 24th SHL Midleton 2 12 Bride Rovers 2 7. JHL div 2 Midleton 3 16 Bride Rovers 1 14. We play the Barrs in Ballynoe in the Senior Hurling League on April 4th at 7.30, this game was originally fixed for April 7th.. Due to a technical glitch the Match Reports from these games will not be available until next week.
WEEKLY LOTTO RESULTS.

Our first weekly Lotto draw was held in March 1996 so we are now in our 28th year. Tickets which are just €2 each can also be purchased from Club members and in local business outlets. CLONTURK PARK REMEMBERED. For most of us GAA supporters mention of All Ireland Finals brings Croke Park to mind but back in the 1890’s different venues were used .
1887 FOOTBALL FINAL. The 21 per side final was held at O'Byrne's field at Beech Hill Donnybrook, which was then the home of Dublin club Benburbs. Louth was represented by County Champions Young Irelands, with the Limerick side composed of the Limerick County Champions, Commercials
Playing with the aid of the wind in the first half, Louth led by two points at the interval. John Maguire had the honour of scoring the first ever point in an All-Ireland football final. In the second half, the first ever goal in a final was scored by William Spain. The Limerick men went on to win by four points. Gate receipts for the match came to £300.
1887 HURLING FINAL. The match that was played at Birr Sportsfield on 1 April 1888 was the 1887 Final. The final was contested by club representatives Thurles Blues of Tipperary and Meelick of Galway with Tipperary winning by 1–1 (and a forfeit point) to 0–00. Patrick White, a native of Blakefield, Toomevara and the first secretary of Offaly County G.A.A. Board. was the referee. Tom Healy scored the first goal in a Hurling Final. Tipperary's All-Ireland victory was their first in what would be a remarkable record of securing an All-Ireland title in every decade. Tipperary also held a record of never losing an All Ireland Final from 1887 to 1909. After that several Hurling and Football Finals were played in Clonturk Park in Drumcondra. Now the home of Drumcondra AFC a plaque was erected on the Clubhouse last Saturday by GAA President Jarlath Burns and Dublin Lord Mayor Daithi de Roiste. The 1890 Football Final (played in 1891) saw Midleton bring the first Football Crown to Cork. On that Midleton team was Richard Kelleher who lived for many years in Mellifontstown, Bartlemy -the great, great grandfather of current Bride Rovers player Conor Hazlewood.

Under-12 GAA Teams Showcase their Skills
This past weekend, both Team 1 and Team 2 of the under-12 GAA squad engaged in internal hurling games, showcasing their talents and dedication.
Team 1 faced off against an under-13 selection, exhibiting remarkable skills and a commendable work ethic throughout the match. The players demonstrated fine hurling techniques, reflecting their commitment to improvement.
Meanwhile, Team 2 took on an under-11 selection, where their impressive hard work and skills were prominently displayed. The team members showed great determination and prowess on the field, earning praise for their performance.
Training sessions will persist on Monday night at 5.30 on the Astro, ensuring continuous improvement and teamwork among the players.
Looking ahead, both teams are gearing up for football games next weekend. Team 1 will clash with a Glanmire selection, while Team 2 will face off against an under-11 selection. Anticipation runs high as the teams prepare to demonstrate their prowess in a different discipline. Thanks to all the lads and mentors for the effort over the last few weeks in tough and trying weather conditions. Hopefully now with the time changing this weekend, longer evening coming and maybe some good weather things will be even more enjoyable.
JOIN BRIDE ROVERS CLUB 100.
A few years back as we began planning for our Club’s centenary in 2028 the Club 100 concept was put in place. It’s a method whereby supporters and benefactors of the Club can commit to heling the Bride Rovers GAA Club. All finance raised has gone into major Club developments in recent years. Now with massive 3 pitch Development project in Ballybrowney well under way we will need huge funds over the next decade. There’s no doubt we wont have much change out of a Million Euro when everything is completed. There are three levels of Club 100 membership; Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Gold membership costs €480 annually and for this on gets 2 Annual Club Lotto tickets plus,2 Rebel Bounty Draw Tickets and family Membership of the Club.
The Silver costs €360 and give 2 Lotto and 1 Rebel Bounty and Membership for 1 adult and 1 child or 2 children)
The Bronze option comes in at €240 and brings 1Annual Club Lotto ticket plus, 1 Rebel Bounty and individual Membership. Many people make a ‘New Year’s Resolution’ at this time of year- why not consider joining our Club 100.? Full details from any Club Officer. At the end of each year the Bride Rovers Club holds a special draw confined the Club 100 members with substantial prizes.
GIRLS NIGHT OUT IN BARTLEMY
They say ‘Girls just wanna have fun’ and if last year was anything to go by next Friday night’s Girls Night Out in Bartlemy hall should be mighty. Have a great evening girls.
EAST CORK BOARD 100
This year 1924 marks thew Centenary of the East Cork Divisional Board. During the 1920’s the Cork County Board encouraged the formation of Divisional Boards to lessen long travelling to games. The Avondhu, Beara, Carbery, Carrigdhoun, Imokilly, Muskerry and Seandun Divisions came into being. The first official meeting of the East Cork Board was held in Cobh Town Hall on April 13th 1927. The Clubs represented were Dungourney, Midleton, Cobh, Carrigtwohill, Little Island, Sarsfields and Youghal. A number of Centenary Events are planned in the Division this year. 1924 was also the year of the foundation of the Castlemartyr Club. We have already had a wreath laying ceremony in Cloyne to mark the 45th Anniversary of Christy Ring’s death. On Wednesday week April 10th the East Cork Board meeting will be held in the GAA Pavilion in Cobh. Then on Saturday April 13th -the actual 100th Anniversary, Mass will be celebrated in Cobh Cathedral by Bishop William Crean followed by the unveiling of a plaque to ben Purcell, the first Board Chairman.
DERRY MANNIX RIP.
WE extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Derry Mannix of Mallow a true GAA legend, who died last week.. We think especially of Cathal and Jack at this sad time. May Derry rest in peace.
LEITRIM IN CROKE PARK. I suppose success is relative and while many GAA followers mightn’t think much of a Division Four Allianz Football League Final this weekend the people and Gaels of Leitrim will. This Saturday the team from Ireland’s smallest populated County will take on Laois in the Div 4 Final in Croke park. Playing in GAA HQ is special and they’ll flock from Gortlettragh, Sean O Heslins, Carrigallen, Mohill, Kiltubrid Cloone and Aughnasheelin to see their team in action. Former Mayo All Star Andy Moran is the Manager and days like this are what makes the GAA so special.
