AGM

It's that time of the year again when the playing season is complete and thus an opportunity to reflect on activities both  on and off the field.  All club members are invited and encouraged to attend our Annual General Meeting, which will be held on this Wednesday December 6th at Castlemartyr School Hall, beginning at 8pm.

Under 21 Football Final
Carrigtwohill 2-7  Castlemartyr 0-6

Carrigtwohill took the honours against Castlemartyr in Sunday's Mulcahy Steel Under 21 B Football Championship Final at Aghavine.  It was a game in which the reds never really fully got into their stride, although they did enjoy some good moments late in the opening half, when they eventually reached parity, before Carrig' hit  a late point to retire leading by 1-3 to 0-5. -  Mike O'Dwyer at full forward proving to be a real handful for the opposition defence with his ball winning ability.

Scores were in relatively short supply in the opening minutes, as both sides missed a few opportunities.  A great kick from a long distance free by Ewan Wimpenny opened our account on 10 minutes, but two minutes later Carrig' struck for the game's first goal.  They squandered a number chances  in the minutes that followed, which allowed us to close the gap courtesy of another well struck free by Ewan and a like score from Charlie O'Neiil from closer range.
After a period without any activity on the scoreboard, Sean Morgan produced a great finish at the end of a fire team movement in 25 minutes to leave just the minimum between the teams.  Soon after impressive work by Darragh Leahy set up a similar high quality Cian Murphy point.  This was certainly our best period of the game and gave plenty of encouragement going into the second half.

Unfortunately, Carrig' upped their game again and we found it difficult to get clean possession in vital areas in the face of some strong pressure.   Our second half scoring was limited to an Andrew Kelly 37 th minutes point, following some very fine approach play.  A second Carrigtwohil goal after 49 minutes was to open a crucial five point gap - 2-5 to 0-6 and in the circumstances presented a big challenge to our team to turn the game around.  Unfortunately  despite the best efforts of all concerned, the trend of the match remained the same as we were on the defensive in the face of a concerted Carrig' effort, which eventually saw them claim the honours by seven points.

A big thanks to the players for their interest and efforts over the past two months.  They were a great group to be involved with and showed great dedication to the cause.  - Well done guys!
The 2024 version of this competition is set to be played in early season, with the hurling championship likely to retain a date at the the side of the season.

Club Gear

We also hope to have more definite news on our centenary gear in the next few days - we apologize again for the delay in theses items becoming available - However, unfortunately this matter is totally out of our hands and we are at the mercy of O'Neill's Sportswear, who quite simply at this stage have failed to deliver on time.
