Silverware for our Fé17 team:

Having suffered disappointment earlier in the week when these lads lost out after extra-time to neighbours Lisgoold in the league final, the lads were determined not to let this one slip away.

Our Fé17’s had a great win away to Fr O’Neil’s on Sunday morning last in the East Cork Championship Shield Final. Playing solidly through the 60 minutes, the Hill started well, going ahead with a Ryan Loftus goal on the 13th minute and scoring consistently from there, keeping the scoreboard ticking over with points from Jack Counihan, Shane O’Callaghan, Ciarán Linehan and Ryan Loftus. Half time was 1-6 for the Hill to 0-6, the Hill scoring 1 point from frees to O’Neill’s 4 points from frees.

Our goalkeeper Fionn Fitzgerald, six backs and mid-fielders played a crucial part in reducing O’Neill’s scores from play throughout the game.

The second half was an intense affair with Ryan Loftus adding another point and Bobby Kelleher adding 2 points from frees before Fr O’Neill’s went 1 point ahead on the 45th minute. The Hill hit back with 5 unanswered points from Jack Counihan, Ethan Bowman, Tadhg McCarthy and Ciarán Linehan. Now into added time, O’Neill’s scored a point to bring it back to four points before Ciarán Linehan, disarmed of his hurley, kicked the final point of the game over the bar.

Final Score Watergrasshill 1-15 Fr. O’Neill’s 1-11.

Congratulations to the lads for picking up some silverware to finish out the season, just rewards for their hard work during the year and uniquely, with another year of minor hurling to look forward to because f the change to U-18 for next year.

Well attended AGM

Our 2023 Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 23rd in Watergrasshill National School. It was great to see such a large attendance on the night. Following the adoption of standing orders, the 2024 executive was proposed and seconded. The first duty of new Chairman Niall O’Riordan, was to thank his predecessor Kieran O’Keefe for all of his hard work during the previous 3 years. Kieran was instrumental in the delivery of a number of key capital improvements such as the club gym, walkway and flood-lit Astro turf as well as helping to reinforce the clubs coaching and player welfare programs. Everyone in attendance thanked Kieran for his work and wish Niall O’Riordan every success in the years ahead. As a club, we have seen huge growth in 2023 and 2024 promises to be another exciting year for our club as we continue to provide for current and future generations in our community. We wish Niall and his executive all the very best for 2024.
