Under 21 Hurling
Castlemartyr v Lisgoold
A great win by our Under 21's to round off the hurling season. Despite both teams being out of contention for a place in the knockout stages, both teams provided an entertaining and competitive hour's action at Paddy Walsh Memorial Park. Reduced to 14 men just before the 40th minute, the reds came from four points down to fashion a 0-23 to 2-14 win, reeling off eight unanswered points in an exciting last quarter.
Lisgoold led for almost all of the first half, having raised a green flag through James O'Driscoll with their first attack of the game. The same player added a second goal, but credit to Castlemartyr for a really positive reaction. Darragh Leahy and Ciaran Sice, who both caught the eye from the off, hit some fine points in this sequence. Mike O'Dwyer, another man to show up well, was also on target. Charlie O'Neill and Andrew Kelly also hit the range, before a brace by Billy McGann rounded off the half with Lisgoold leading on a 2-7 to 0-10 scoreline.
Both sides added to their respective tallies with early second half points, leaving the balance of power with the visitors, a man up and four points to the good entering the closing quarter.
Here, Castlemartyr really stood up, Andrew Kelly had his eye in with three of the next four points with Darragh Leahy also adding his third - all square but momentum had swung to the hosts. They kept that trend going as Billy McGann, Mike O'Dwyer and a monster score from the stick of Darragh Joyce rounded the day off in fine style.
A fine team effort all around to wrap up a busy season on the hurling fields.
Team - James O'Donovan, Oisin Cantwell, Tom Fleming, Cian Murphy, David Lynch, Darragh Joyce, Daire Coughlan, Ciaran Sice, Darragh Leahy, Sean Morgan, Andrew Kelly, Charlie O'Neill, Billy McGann, Ewan Wim penny, Mike O'Dwyer. Sub - Jack Smiddy.
Football Final On Sunday
The under 21 football final on Sunday morning rounds off not only the playing year, but also the first century of games in the history of our club. Castlemartyr have won two and drawn one of their games thus far and will be looking to win a second title in four years in this grade. In opposition are Carrigtwohill, who despite a narrow loss to Glenville last week, still topped their group having produced some excellent football already in the campaign. They will provide a big challenge for our team and we ask all the reds to support the team at the home of Fr O'Neill's on Sunday next. Best wishes to team captain Daire Coughlan and all the players. Please note throw in on Sunday is now at 11.15am.
Centenary Update
Our first big centenary event is coming close now. The Centenary Stroll is on Monday January 1st at our grounds where everyone is encouraged to wear their club colours and walk around our track for as long... or as short as you wish between 2pm and 4pm. Light refreshment will be served and our centenary year flag will be raised at 3pm.
The great photo collection (and maybe even a few additions) which was on view on launch night will again be on display in the dressing rooms for all to see. So book that day in the diary as we all aim to put into practice our hash tag for 2024 "let's celebrate together".
Club Sportswear
A quick update regarding our sportswear.
Unfortunately our suppliers O'Neill's are falling behind in terms of progressing the new items to our club page on their online site.. We apologise for this delay, which is totally out of our hands.
It is hoped to have the arrival of an updated jersey order and the new half zips shortly, at which point we will organise a sales day at the pitch. In the meantime, once the gear is available online, we will update immediately.
Castlemartyr Lights Up
As a follow up to our Centenary Walk on New Years Day - "Castlemartyr Lights Up" will begin on Wednesday January 3rd and continue for the next five Wednesdays in January. Again all welcome to join us between 7pm and 8pm.
AGM Date
The date for the club AGM is Wednesday December 6th - time and venue to be confirmed in the next few days.
