MATCHES ROUND-UP

Minor (U17) Hurling:

COUNTY CHAMPIONS – 3 IN A ROW

Our minor hurlers have completed a hugely impressive treble of county championships after a thrilling victory over Shandrum in Páirc Uí Rinn on Monday 9th October, finishing Killeagh 1-25 Shandrum 2-17. Barry Walsh put on an all-time performance, scoring 1-14 on the night. He was supported by excellent performances by our players in every position on the field. The future is bright for hurling in Killeagh, as this victory follows the Minor ‘A’ title in 2021 and the ‘Premier 2’ title in 2022, completing the treble of minor championships. Thanks to the huge crowd who travelled to Páirc Uí Rinn to support the boys. Another impressive stat is that many of these lads were in action just days later when they togged out for Midleton CBS and Pobalscoil Youghal in the Dr. Harty Cup, representing their club and schools proudly.

Junior B Hurling:

JUNIOR B GLORY AT LAST (by Colman Motherway)

Having lost to Bride Rovers in the 2022 decider, our Junior B hurlers went one better last Saturday in claiming the Eamon Fleming Cup with a hard-earned victory over a determined Castlemartyr side in Páirc Chríostóir Uí Rinn, Cloyne, where we had the four seasons not just in the day but in the hour! A stop-start opening half was dominated by frees, with our Dan Landers and the Reds’ Niall Morgan dominating the scoreboard. Ben Budds

chipped in with two much-needed long-distance points towards the end of the half, leaving the teams tied at 0-6 each ag leath-am. The second half saw us gain a foothold and Paudie Mackey’s fine goal after 40 minutes gave us some breathing space, and with Dan continuing his exceptional shooting, both from frees and from play, and Aaron Walsh adding two great scores, we finished seven points ahead at the finish – 1-17 to 0-13. Congratulations to the full panel who trained really well throughout the year, and to the management team of Ger, Andrew, Denis, Brendan, Mary, Shane, Sean and Ray. A special mention to Stephen Murphy who picks up his second medal at this grade, 23 years after winning in 2000! Let’s go on now and rattle the county!

The next Junior B game is on in the Páirc Uí Chaoimh 4G pitch this Sunday 5th November at 6.15pm, against Carrigdhoun champions Valley Rovers. Be sure to get out and support the lads as we aim to add the county title to our East Cork title!

Senior A/Junior A Hurling:

It was a disappointing end to hugely positive seasons in Senior A and Junior A Hurling. We were beaten by Newcestown (who have since gone on to win the county final) in the Senior A quarter final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, while an impressive Carraig na bhFear side beat our Junior A team in the East Cork semi final, played in Dungourney. Thanks to all our loyal supporters who followed these teams around the county throughout the year.

Junior C Football:

The Junior C footballers were victorious in the East Cork semi final against Carraig na bhFear on Saturday 28th October, on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-6, Seán Walsh and Stephen Murphy our standout players on the day. Ballinacurra now await us in the final on Saturday 11th November at 2.30pm, Venue TBC . Our Junior C

footballers are unbeaten so far in this championship, so hopefully they can get the job done and see another cup return to Killeagh!
