RIP Tommy O'Connell Snr, Youghal GAA Club President
A great sadness descended upon our club when we learned of the passing of our Club President, Tommy 'Tucker' O'Connell Snr.
A lifelong servant to our club as a player and supporter; he lined out for our hurlers and footballers many times in the 50s and 60s.
He was part of the Intermediate Hurling team that got to a county final in 1964 against Castletownroche at the Cork Athletic Grounds, playing alongside the famed Noel Gallagher in the half-forward line. Many other great Youghal men also played on that team, such as the late Jackie Griffin and Noel Hogan, to name but a few.
After his playing days, Tommy, along with his wife Mag, raised a wonderful family who have made an enormous contribution to our club. As the next generations of his clan don the Maroon and Gold, it's safe to say, his legacy will live on.
Tucker was almost a permanent fixture on the sidelines of Copperalley, be it an under 12 or a senior match. He would always give refreshing, honest appraisals of how good or bad a Youghal team performed and he didn't hold back, whether you were his son or a stranger.
It's safe to say that the club will feel this enormous loss for a long time to come, but however great our loss is; we think of his wife Mag, his children Anne, Alison, Siobhan, Neil, Sean, Tommy 'Tucker' Jnr, and the entire O'Connell family. We hold them in our thoughts and prayers as they grieve for this Great Gael.
No doubt there will be many sliotars flying in the fields in the sky as Tommy 'Tucker' O'Connell is reunited with teammates gone before him.

We all remember that success isn’t measured by winning finals or being the best. It
is measured by encouragement, team spirit and respect.
For most, success is just taking part.
We applaud inclusion... that’s the real success of the town leagues!
A huge thank you to all of the players, parents, supporters, coaches and referees involved in the Town Leagues.
A special thank you to the organisers, Eoin Coleman, Dave Hickey, Fiona Walsh and John Claude McCarthy.
Thanks to Maurice Cronin for the superb photography.
Thanks to the Youghal Pipe band.

Under 12 Group 2 Football Final
Youghal won the U12 group 2 football final in fine style, leading from the start to finish.
The foundation for thus great win was the half back line of Tomas Sharkey, Jack Healy and Niall Russell. Youghal were leading by 2 pts after 10 mins when our Captain Liam O Callaghan punched a great goal to the net.
Sean Spillane finished the scoring for the first half with 2 points leaving the Half time score Youghal 1-4 Carrigtwohill 0-0.
The second half began with our midfield of Rory Murphy and Evan Cooper dominating the midfield area and this resulted in a great supply of ball to the full forward line and their efforts were rewarded when Sean Spillane scored a fine individual goal.
Further points from Sean Dillon, who got on a lot of ball, after a move to wing forward and Finn Mangan, who had a fine game, put Youghal 2-6 to 0-1 ahead. Rory Murphy chipped in with 2 more points and Sean Irwin was very unlucky at this stage for a goal drawing 2 brilliant saves from the keeper.
Carrigtwohill never gave up and our lads seemed to tire a little but our full back line of AJ Cooper, James Cronin and the brilliant Donnacha Cronin, aided by our keeper Josh O Connell, kept Carrigtwohill to a total of 1-2.
A great win for a very committed Youghal team.
Youghal Camogie U14's are County Final bound
Youghal 1-14 St Vincent’s 1-8
Youghal secured a county final place after a hard fought battle with St. Vincent’s in Copperalley. Despite taking an early lead, Youghal conceded an early goal and had to battle hard to get back in the game. Youghal went in with a 2 point lead at half time and never relinquished it for the rest of the match. Huge performance by the panel again who now have Barryroe to look forward to in the county final! UP THE YOUGHAL GIRLS!
