Big Weekend Beckons for Hurlers

We are at the stage of the season that the great Alex Ferguson famously described as ‘’squeaky bum time’’. All the training and matches over the course of the year culminate in a few weeks and we are closing in on the end of the season. Both our Premier Intermediate and Junior hurlers find themselves in the Semi-finals of their respective competitions. Our Premier Intermediate hurlers take on Castlemartyr in a repeat of last year’s game at the same stage where Castlemartyr triumphed by 4 points. This game is poised to be a cracker with both teams recent history. Castlemartyr lost to Ballinhassig in their first game of the year by 3 points. They bounced back to claim victories against Kilworth and Watergrasshill to claim an automatic semi-final appearance.

Castlelyons started the campaign with a convincing win over Bandon and we won well against an improving Dungourney side in our second game. We played Ballincollig in our final group game in Mallow in what turned into a disappointing day as we lost out to the Muskerry side. We returned to Páirc Uí Rinn to take on newly demoted from the Senior ranks Ballymartle in the Quarter final. In a game played in tough conditions we out played our opponents to qualify for our 4th Semi-final appearance in a row. We wish the panel and mentors the very best of luck in the match.

Our Junior B hurlers also take on Castlemartyr in the East Cork Semi-final on the following day in Killeagh. After a thrilling victory over Cloyne in the Quarter-final, we are hoping for another big performance in this game. History beckons and everything is to play for this weekend. All support is needed to shout on both sets of teams. Castlelyons Abú!

U15s Win Football Final

Castlelyons u15 footballers had a narrow victory over Whitechurch last week in the Rebel Óg East Final. We started well with a couple of early goals against the wind gave us an ideal start. Whitechurch fought back and scored 3 goals of their own. In a game played in very tough conditions lads put in a huge effort to get us over the line by by 2 points on a final score of 2-06 to 3-01. Well done to all the lads on a brilliant victory.
