JUVENILES 

DAVY HOGAN STREET LEAGUES 

The curtain came down in style on the 2023 Day Hogan Street Leagues on Saturday last in wonderful style at Clonmult Memorial Park. 

After great matches over the last number of weeks the final group games and then the finals were played on Saturday morning last not before all the boys and girls marched from the Green, through Hurley's SuperValu and all the way to Clonmult Memorial Park behind the piper before standing for Amhrán na bhFiann before the action got underway. 

You can see the final results below but a huge well done to every boy and girl who took part as they all played their part in making this competition a wonderful success, once again. 

Of course a huge competition like this takes a lot of work and organisation and we would like to thank all the coaches and every person that contributed to make this event such a great success. Thanks also to the parents and of course to the Hogan family who, as always, turned out in huge numbers to present the medals and cups on the day. A big thanks also to the Midleton senior hurlers who turned out in large numbers to shout on our young Magpies. Fair play lads.

FÉ6S

Attention all future Magpies (or parents of)......Pre-registratio is now OPEN for our brand new Fé6 Magpies - i.e. those who have just started junior infants. Training commences on October 21...see below for all the details.....

 

FÉ17 COUNTY SEMI-FINAL

Our Rebel Og Premier Fé17 Hurling Championship Premier 1 Semi-Final clash with Glen Rovers has been fixed for Saturday week, September 30, at 1pm in Caherlag.

 

CAMOGIE 

DAVY HOGAN STREET LEAGUES

Our U10s and U11s had some great fun over the last few weeks taking part in the Davy Hogan Street League. It culminated in the final on Saturday morning when Owenacurra took on Garryowen with Garryowen coming out on top. Well done to all the girls who took part and showed great grit, skill and determination. There was a great atmosphere in Clonmult Memoial Park and thanks to all that helped make the day special for these girls and provided refreshments afterwards. UNDER 13S

Our U-13s are taking part in an invitational East Cork Competition involving Fr. O’Neill’s, St. Catherine’s and Castlemartyr. The first match was away to Castlemartyr. Unfortunately it was not the girls' night but well done to all on showing great battling and effort during the game. The team are improving in each game, with excellent teamwork, skill, defending and forward play. Thanks to Castlemartyr for hosting.

Congratulations to Sadhbh who was captain on the night.

 

UNDER 14S

Best of luck to our U14s who take part in Championship Semi-Final next Sunday at 4.15pm in Clonmult Memorial Park V St. Finbarr’s. Come out and support the girls.

 

UNDER 16S

This week our U16s had their first win in the U16 Premier 2 County Championship! The girls played their final Championship group game against Enniskeane in Clonmult Park on Saturday evening. They have struggled a bit at this level this year but were determined to give a good account of themselves in this home fixture. A special mention must go to Cara Foley after she notched up a very impressive goal and four points from play! Cara never misses training and it was great to see her reap the rewards of all her efforts. It is nice to be able to finish the year on a bit of a high-well done girls and thanks a million for your commitment during the year.

 

JUNIOR B GAMES

1 – AT CLONMULT MEMORIAL PARK

MIDLETON 2-10 ROCKBÁN 2-7

In what was a very competitive match the girls dug out a great win against a very good Rockbán side. Despite being reduced to 14 players after only 6 mins the girls applied themselves  to the job at hand and got a deserved victory. Vivienne Gleeson top scored with 1-7 (5f) . Kate O'Sullivan  added 1-2 from play and with our defence playing exceptionally well with Leah Hogan, Lucy Wallis and Aoife Fitzgerald to the fore we kept Rockbán at bay for long periods. Even with an early  red card , which was very unfortunate,  our girls kept their cool and got off to a winning start .

2 – AT KILBREE GAA GROUNDS

KILBREE 2-5 MIDLETON 3-14

We made the long trip to Kilbree on a sunny evening. We have previously struggled when travelling to Kilbree but no such problems this time . We took control early with goals from Kate O'Sullivan and Vivienne Gleeson and despite the concession of a couple  of goals at the other end we had a 3 point lead at the break, 2-4 to 2-7. From there it was one way traffic and we completely dominated the second half limiting our opponents to a single point . Vivienne with 2-5 (3f) and the outstanding Kate with 1-5 from play. Kelly Quirke also chipped in with two excellent points but it really was a great team performance with all players contributing well  - especially in the second-half .

3 – AT CLONMULT MEMORIAL PARK

MIDLETON 0-11 YOUGHAL 0-6

Our third Junior B Championship outing was a repeat of the League Semi Final game V our East Cork neighbours from Youghal. After a tough hour of Camogie in very hot conditions our girls again came out on top with a repeat of the League Semi Final result. Plaudits on this occasion must go to our backs and midfielders who worked their socks off to limit Youghal to just 6 points ( 3 from play ). Jill Connaughton weighed in towards the end with some  great saves when Youghal started  to look for goals but it was really our backs who wore them down with a great display of blocking, hooking and tackling. Our forwards did just enough to keep us in front , but we did leave a lot of scores behind which may have caught us on another day. But credit to all for toughing it out and running out 5 point winners in the end.  With 3 wins from 3 we are in a good position to qualify for knockout stages. Still 2 games to go though so we need to keep going to ensure we top our group and try to get one of the  Semi Final spots.

4 – AT CLONMULT MEMORIAL PARK

MIDLETON 2-21 BANTEER 0-2

In what was a non-event of a contest we ran out very easy winners against an understrength Banteer side. It took a while for us to get  going but once we did it was one way traffic throughout. Goals by Rachel Ryan in first-half and Vivienne Gleeson early in second-half  were the highlights in what was really a game that is best forgotten. The good news is that this win ensured our qualification for at last a QF spot , victory in our last game V Erin’s Own will give a good chance of progressing straight to a Semi Final.

JUNIOR C GAMES

1 – AT PARK SOUTH

MIDLETON 0-5 ST COLUMS 1-9

Our Junior C team had their  first outing against the Libby Coppinger led St Colums. After a very competitive hour’s Camogie St Colums pulled away in the last 10 mins with the aforementioned Coppinger, fresh from her Senior All Ireland win for Cork in Croke Park , showing her class and superior  fitness and physique . We trailed only by 3 points at the break 0-3 to 0-6 and try as we might we could not get the goal we needed to keep us afloat . It was a great effort by everyone though and great to see the Junior C team being as competitive as this against tough opposition. Kate Griffin was very solid in goals and with Laura Goulding marshalling the  defence , Sorcha Cronin and Roisin O'Callaghan doing all they could in midfield and Rachel Ryan, Hannah Power and Rayanna Power trying their best upfront it really was a very positive showing.

2 – AT DUNGOURNEY

DUNGOURNEY 4-9 MIDLETON 2-5

Our Junior C's second game was a short trip to Dungourney.  Again the girls acquitted themselves very well and despite falling behind nine points at the break they battled back superbly and reduced the deficit to just three points with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately a dubious square ball goal took  the wind from their sails at that point and Dungourney ran out deserving winners . But again it was great performance all round, especially in the second-half  and it was heartwarming to see the girls battling to the end and enjoying the hours Camogie.

Rachel Ryan and Amy McCarthy got the goals but as mentioned it was a great team performance again all round.

3 – NO REFEREE

Unfortunately the Junior C game V Fermoy on Sunday September 10 had to be abandoned as the appointed referee did not show up. This was very disappointing to all who attended. We did play 30 minutes and the girls  were well in control when Fermoy felt they could not continue due to insurance issues because we did not have an official referee  present . It was disappointing to all concerned but in the end could not be helped  by either Fermoy or Midleton and we would like to thank Fermoy for travelling and for their patience on the night.

Also our Game V St Farahans scheduled for Friday Sep 15th also had to be postponed due to the inclement weather. Again this was very unfortunate as it would have been a good game for the girls.

 

LADIES FOOTBALL 

JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP

DOUGLAS 0-3 MIDLETON 3-10

Well done to our Junior ladies who had a great win over Douglas last Sunday.

They have now qualified for the Championship semi-final on this coming Sunday,  September 24, where they will play Dohenys. Best of luck to all players and management. This is a great achievement for your first year playing in the “A” grade.

 

UNDER 10S

A great showing from our U-10s on Tuesday night at a wet, windy and blustery Glenville. Great spirit, determination and skills shown by all.

 

UNDER 12S

Well done to our U12 girls who played great football in two football challenge games against Douglas before our Junior game last Sunday.

This Sunday our U12 girls are back in Championship action. Please come along and show them your support.

 

ADULT CLUB

SENIOR AND INTERMEDIATE SEMI-FINALS CONFIRMED

After the weekend's County hurling quarter-finals, our semi-final fixtures for the senior and intermediate championships have been confirmed. 

On Friday week, September 29, we will travel to Carrigtwohill to take on Blackrock in the Co. Intermediate A Huling Championship semi-final at 7.30pm. 

On Sunday week, October 1, we will take on reigning champions St. Finbarr's in Pairc Uí Chaoimh in the Co. Premier Senior Hurling Championship semi-final at 4pm. 

On Saturday week, September 30, we will host the all-East Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship semi-final between Castlemartyr and Castlelyons at 5pm in Clonmult Memorial Park.

JUNIOR A HURLING 

MIDLETON 2-21 SARSFIELDS 2-18

On Sunday last, in Rathcormac, we played in the Junior A Relegation Final against our rivals from Sars. This was a crucial game in order to preserve our stay at Junior A level for 2024.

The first-half was a very open affair where some fine point taking was on view. Sars lead by 1-13 to 0-14 at the break. The second-half was a much tighter affair but a couple of well taken goals saw us home.

We have retained our place in the Junior A grade for next year. This was our final Junior A game and would like to thank all the players who lined out throughout the year.

JUNIOR C HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Our Junior Cs will be facing Carrigtwohill in the East Cork semi-final on Sunday week, October 1, at 11.30am. Venue to be confirmed. 

 

MASTERS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 

Midleton are entering a team into the Nemo Rangers Masters Football (35 and older) Tournament on Saturday week, September 30. Please contact Jerome (087-2100989) if ou are interested in getting involved. Everyone welcome.
