- Apr 26,2023
By Maurice Mulcahy PRO.
The footballers had a bad enough weekend, registering two defeats in the last week. The juveniles will take centre stage as feile will be staged in Lisgoold this week. We wish them all the very best of luck.

Carrigtwohill 0-13 (13)

April 20th 2023
Lisgoold Footballers suffered their first defeat in their league campaign. In very fresh spring like conditions on a splendid Carrigtwohill pitch. Our lads donned the away jersey (wearing white) and obtained and incredible start when John Cronin opened our account with a wonderful point. Carrig responded and when Mark Hegarty raised a green flag for us at the seventh minute, we were four points ahead (1-2 to 0-1). Jason Hegarty, Kieran Cashman and Cian Scannell were alert as ever as the hosts fought back. In fact, Carrig were nearly out of sight come the 20th Minute. There were three glorious chances for Carrigtwohill to raise green flags of their own however they were stopped by our goalie Ciarán. In truth Lisgoold were extremely fortunate to be in the gam eat all. These missed chances coupled with very favourable refereeing decisions meant incredibly even though being out played for the last twenty-five minutes or so, we were level going to the short whistle 1-2 to 0-5.
As they came back in the second half there was a light rain in which created greasy enough conditions both sides had their defences on top at the start of the half. However, with our chances at an extreme premium, the hosts just simply took over the second half. Slowly but surely score by score carrig picked us off. It was an impressive performance by Carrigtwohill but a very disappointing performance by us. In truth, it was an extra energy on the pitch by carrig that ensured that they would maintain their lead throughout this encounter. Coming into the home straight it was proving to be more difficult to break away from the hosts pressure as we simply could not get into their half. Carrig were quite impressive and looked quite strong and may be tipped as contenders for this year’s championship.
The game eventually peeped out and Carrig won by eight points. It was a very disappointing performance with a poor result but there can only be very few complaints as were simply outplayed. However, all is not lost, barring a huge number of unlikely results with the remaining teams beneath them having to play each other our status for division one is secured for 2024. The process for progression is actually straight-forwardly simple. Lisgoold will have to win their remaining three games in May with needing Carrigtwohill or Carrignavar to drop points in the last two rounds of matches.

Lisgoold 0-5 (5)
Cobh 1-14 (17)
At Cobh
April 21st 2023
A comprehensive defeat for our second team last Friday night. The hosts dominated a game from start to finish as they condemned Lisgoold to a third defeat in this year’s league. To the lad’s credit they did finish very strong however it was much too little too late. This means they are now out of running for qualifying the league semi-final and have one game remaining – a home match vs Russell Rovers on the 5th May.

Carrigtwohill 3-06 (15)
Douglas 1-6 (9)
Lisgoold 4-5 (17)
Strong committed display from the u16 Football panel in both games where we appear to be punching way above our weight. It was simply down to the mindset and skillset of the players to be brave in their play, make the right pass and take the score when the option was there in both games. Overall, the lads simply played for each other.
Last ever hurling Juvenile game for some on the u18 panel, this Wednesday in Lisgoold v Ballygibblin 6.30 throw in. Come along and cheer on the lads as they graduate to the Adult club.
Our under 8s travelled to Cobh for a football blitz in Páirc Uí Cheallaigh last Saturday. We competed very well in all three games. Well done to all. Special thanks to the eight under 7 players who helped us out. Also, thanks to Cobh for hosting.
