Glenville GAA Notes

By John O'Connor, PRO Glenville GAA Club
U17 Div 1 Football Championship.
Having drawn the opening game in a thrilling high scoring game against St Nicks we had two more games in quick succession against Midleton and St Catherine's with contrasting performances. Away to Midleton we never got going and gave away the ball numerous times which Midleton punished us. We seemed to have loads of possession but just couldn't convert the chances on the night. Midleton winning out 7-4 to 1-5.
On bank holiday Monday in wet conditions we played St Catherine's in Glenville and we produced a much improved display. Two excellent worked goals in the opening 5 minutes from Ciaráin Lenihan and Ciaran O' Riordan set us up nicely. Catherine's in fairness were playing well and began to eat in to the early lead but the momentum swung again with 2 brilliant goals from Ciarain O' Leary and Darragh Collins gave us a 7 point half time lead. Catherine's were on top early in the second half and again trimmed the lead but then we hit a good run of scores with Darragh Collins with 2 more goals, Ciarain Lenihan from a penalty and Calum O' Mahony netting to bring the scoring to an end. Final Score Glenville 8-9 St Catherine's 2-10.
U10
Our u10's were in action on Saturday against Fermoy. We played 2 x 7 a side matches to begin with and then 1 game of 14 a side. It was a very competitive affair between 2 closely matched teams. Thanks to Gearoid and Darren for reffing.
