CLUB COVID-19 UPDATE
While daily Covid case numbers are still dropping slowly, we are nowhere close to where we need to be. So, why would you drop your guard? Let’s finish out the job at hand and get it down to low as possible. Therefore, we ask all members of both the club and community to be cautious at all times going forward and remember to keep your Social Distance, wear a clean face covering where possible, wash your hands regularly & reduce your social contacts where possible to an absolute minimum.
Remember, we all have a personal responsibility in an effort to reduce Covid-19 so play your part in the local community and you should protect yourself and everyone around you.
We, at Killeagh GAA club repeat our call for anyone in our community, especially the elderly or those loving alone, who needs assistance with shopping, household help or just a chat with someone over the phone, please contact in confidence Ray Rochford 087-2330054 or Colman Motherway 085-7540973 who will try to arrange appropriate support for you.
A reminder to all our members and supporters that both the Main Pitch & Clashdermot Pitch are currently CLOSED due to maintenance repairs. If someone needs to go running or have a kick/puck around, please use the Glenbower (Training) Pitch. If you are walking around our walkway, please remember to keep the Main Pitch on your left-hand side walking in an anti-clockwise direction.
Finally, while we are delighted that many people and families are using Pairc Ui Chinneide for exercise during the current restrictions, we must ask that NO DOGS are allowed onto the grounds, for reasons of health and safety of all users. Go raibh milé maith agaibh.
LAST CALL FOR YOUR REBELS’ BOUNTY TICKETS
There is over €100k up for grabs on March 25th!!
The last few tickets are for sale for the “Rebels’ Bounty” draw. A new fundraising initiative by Cork GAA designed to support Cork players, clubs and county. The initiative offers a spectacular total prize fund of €500,000, with one lucky club member set to win €100,000.
In every draw, there are 30 cash prizes, ranging from €100 to €20,000. In April and August, the top prize will increase to €25,000 while in December, the bumper prize of €100,000 will be given away. The first draw will take place on Thursday March 25th where prizes will be drawn for the months of January, February & March and there is over €100,000 up for grabs alone on the night!
Tickets for the 12 draws cost €100 for the year (or for €10 over 10 months). Remember, the more tickets our club sells, the more development we can do in the future in Páirc Uí Chinnéide for all in our community. Every ticket we sell between now & March 25th means the money stays in Killeagh and you have a free entry to 12 draws.
If you want to be included in the draw, last entries must be with the County Board by 5pm on Thursday March 25th 2021.
Tickets for the Rebels’ Bounty are being distributed via any member of the executive committee, club officer or through our club co-ordinator for the draw, Dave Barry on 087-8123352. The maximum number of entries per person is 5, with a maximum of 2 names per ticket. Late Entries will not be allowed to enter the 2021 draw. HURLING HELMET SAFETY
In advance of the 2021 GAA season, players are reminded about the need to check that their equipment is in good condition and meets the required safety standards.
The GAA would like to remind all players at all levels in all Hurling Games and Hurling Practice Sessions it is mandatory for, and the responsibility of, each individual player to wear a helmet with a facial guard that meets the standards set out in IS:355 or other replacement standard as determined by the National Safety Authority of Ireland (NSAI).
All players are advised that in the event of a head injury occurring, if the helmet being worn does not meet the standard or is modified or altered from the original manufactured state, they are not covered under the terms of the GAA Injury Benefit Fund.
The following helmet manufacturers currently provide products which meet the standards set out in IS:355 or other replacement standard as determined by the National Safety Authority of Ireland (NSAI).
· Atak Sports
· Azzuri
· Cooper.ie
· Marc Sports
· Mycro
· O’Neills
Players and parents should note that not all products provided by some of these manufacturers meet the standards of IS:355.
Once the helmet or faceguard is modified in anyway, the player is playing at an increased risk of injury and not covered under the terms of the GAA Injury Benefit Fund.
Go Raibh Milé maith agaibh.
COACHING AND SAFEGUARDING COURSES
Ahead of the 2021 season start, we will be contacting the respective coaches/mentors who need to attend training in time, but for the moment we ask that ALL COACHES should start (if you have not started yet) or complete the mandatory online E-Vetting process. You can do this by logging onto gaa.ie, search for the E-Vetting section and complete the necessary steps as outlined. We need these completed before we return to the green fields of Páirc Uí Chinnéide. If you have a query on the above subject, please contact the GAA Children’s Officer Grainne Fitzgerald on 087-6290214 or email childrensofficer.killeagh.cork@gaa.ie
Regarding Coaching, there is an online Foundation course being run by Cork GAA Games Development Officer, Sean Crowley in the next few weeks. It covers the Theory section of the course, the practical end will be completed once safe to do so upon lifting of the restrictive measures. You will also have to do child welfare course if not already done in order to receive a certificate. This is a good opportunity to get this complete prior to the season start in the coming weeks or months. Please contact Sean via email at sean.crowley.gda.cork@gaa.ie ASAP to book your place.
LOTTO UPDATE:

The €30 Lucky Dip winners drawn were Pat Kirby & the Killeagh Race Committee while the €30 voucher for Tom Kelly’s Butchers, Killeagh was won by Bernie Irwin & the €30 voucher for Uncle Sams, Killeagh was won by Aoife Daly. Hopefully, we will be able to give out a schedule of events for 2021 over the coming weeks but there will be some events that will need some changing of dates, which are being worked on in the background pending on relevant Government Announcements.
