BRIDE ROVERS GAA CLUB NOTES.  SENIORS & THIRD XV WIN.

LATE TATE GREAT NEWS  !¬WELL DONE MICHAEL & VINCENT.  Congrats and brilliantly well done to the Cork Minor Footballers on that amazing extra time win over Kerry in wet and wind Pairc UI Rinn on Monday night. An extra special occasion for Bride Rovers with Club player Michael Walsh and Clubman Vincent Cronin -a Cork selector, playing their important parts in a great win. The icing on the cake was Cyril Kavanaghs' rendition of de Banks, Bride Rovers abu Corcagih Abu.

We’re well into May though we had a touch of frost a few morning last week.  The four pitches and the juvenile pitch are getting very busy- nearly booked out. Our Senior and Third teams had games last Sunday -home and away.  Next Sunday Cork meet Clare and Rovers meet Ballinacurra in Football. The Juvenile Club have their big fundraiser -The Quiz, on Saturday night.  Details of the 2026 Tony Walsh Tournament are announced. Volunteers still needed for the Cul Camp in July. Today is the last chance to get tickets for the Bartlemy hall Draw

MINOR HURLING.  ROVERS v ROCKIES. Bride Rovers and Blackrock II play out a draw in the Minor Hurling League. In a game against the current league leaders, our minor hurlers drew with Blackrock II 1-15 to 3-9. First half scores from Mattie Kenny, Finn O’Driscoll and Darragh O’Farrell saw us head into the break with a two-point advantage despite two goals from the Rockies. A further goal from a Mattie Kenny free saw us increase our lead, however a late fightback from the Rockies saw them draw level at the end. Team,:
C. Somers, R. Sweeney, E, Quaine, E. Lyons, G. Quirke, D. Fitzgerald, M. Hynes, J. Walsh, C. McCormack, M. Kenny, D’ O’Farrell, J. O’Connell, F. O’Driscoll,  O. Harris, D. Costigan. Subs: T. Cronin for C. McCormack, A. Kelleher for D. Costigan, L. Murphy for G. Quirke
SHANE INJURED.  So sorry to learn of the serious Achilles tendon injury sustained recently by Shane O Connor. It’s a terrible blow for Shane who was one of our star hurlers in County winning team last year. Without contradiction it can be said that we would not have won the Cork Senior A Hurling Championships in 2026 only for the consistent displays of Shane. We wish him all the best in his recovery and rehab programme.

REBEL OG UNDER 14 HURLING.  Bride Rovers produced a superb comeback performance in the Under14 Premier 2 Hurling Championship on Friday night, overcoming a slow start to eventually run out winners. Played in Paddy Walsh Memorial Park in Castlemartyr Kiltha Óg (Castlemartyr/ Dungourney) began the game at a serious pace and were much sharper in the opening exchanges. They moved the ball well, took their scores confidently and put Rovers under real pressure early on. After 20 minutes, Kiltha Óg had built up a strong lead, with the scoreboard reading 0-10 to 0-2 in their favour.
At that stage, Rovers were struggling to get a foothold in the game, but credit to the players, they did not panic. They worked their way back into the contest and the momentum began to shift when Jack Fitzgerald struck a crucial goal to bring Rovers right back into it. That score lifted the whole team and suddenly Rovers began to play with far more energy, belief and aggression.
A few positional changes also helped Rovers get to grips with the game. Once the players settled into their roles, they began to dominate more of the play, winning more breaking ball, getting tighter to their men and using possession far better. By half-time, what had looked like a very difficult position had been turned around, with Kiltha Óg leading by just three points. The second half saw Rovers really take control. They added a number of important goals, each one coming at key moments. Dara Murphy finished well, Conor Healy reacted sharply with a pull close to goal, Jack Fitzgerald added another excellent goal from long range, and Eoghan Croke also found the net with a composed finish.
As the game went on, Rovers grew stronger and stronger. The slow start was well behind them, and once they got to grips with Kiltha Óg’s main players, they began to dominate the contest. The forwards became more clinical, the midfield battle improved, and the backs worked hard to limit Kiltha Óg’s scoring chances after their strong opening spell.
It was a real championship performance from Bride Rovers — not perfect, especially in the opening 20 minutes, but full of character, resilience and determination. The final score was Bride Rovers 7 12 Kiltha Og 1 18.
The Bride Rovers team on the night was 1. Noah Collins, 2. Scott Lynch, 3. Darragh Feeney, 4. Cameron Hoare, 5. Dennis Skillington, 6. Jack Fitzgerald (2-1), 7. Luke Fitzgerald, 8. Tommy Conway, 9. Conor Healy (2-0), 10. Thomas Hegarty, 11. Adam Hackett (1-4), 12. Tiarnán Lyons (0-2), 13. Matthew Finn, 14. Alex McCarthy (0-2), 15. Dara Murphy (1-1), 16. Eoghan Croke (1-1), 17. Jack Roddis, 18. RED FM SHL  Bride Rovers 1-22 Ballymartle 1-15. Bride Rovers welcomed Ballymartle to Rathcormac on Sunday last for round 6 of the Red FM sponsored Division 2 Hurling League. The match was played before a fine crowd. Ballymartle, Playing with the wind in the opening half had registered two points before Louie Roche got the Rovers first score. Adam Walsh, with two points from frees put the Rovers in front. A point by Paddy O Flynn was followed by a well taken goal by Louie Roche in the seventh minute following great play by Ronan O Connell and Cormac Barry. The Rovers were now up 1-04 to 0-02. Ballymartle replied with a brace of points before Jack Mannix, Brian Roche (2) and Conleith Ryan extended our lead.  Once again Ballymartle reduced the deficit with some well taken points. Ronan O Connell pointed from long range in the 23rd minute. Further points from Adam Walsh (free), Ronan & Brian Roche had the Rovers in front at half time. Bride Rovers 1-12 Ballymartle 0-11.  On the resumption the Rovers extended their lead with points from Adam, Ronan & Paddy but a Ballymartle goal wiped out that advantage. The Rovers response to the goal was perfect with points from Ronan and Jack Mannix. When Ronan grabbed his fifth point from play in the 40th minute, the Rovers were six points ahead. With our full back line of Tadhg, Oisīn and Denis curbing the threat of the Ballymartle forwards, ably supported by Conor, Cillian and Cormac in the half back line. A point by substitute Conor Barry and three more pointed frees from Adam Walsh secured a seven point win and our place at the top of the league table. CORK MINOR FOOTBALL. Last week I mentioned that Micheal Walsh was the first Bride Rovers player to play with the Cork Minor Footballers in the Munster Championship. He was introduced in the game v Waterford on Monday week last. Well I was kind of right and kind of wrong! James (Jim) Murphy of Main St, Rathcormac played Minor Football with Fermoy in 1945 and actually played with Cork in the Munster Championship. As a St Bartholomwew’s Minor hurler he played with the Cork Minor Hurlers in 1946- the year his brother Con won a Senior All Ireland with Cork.  Jim Murphy started working in Shannon in 1948 and joined the Greenpark GAA Club. Two years later, in 1950, Jim won a Munster Junior Football medal with Limerick -defeating Cork in the Final. Limerick later lost to Derry in the All Ireland semi-final. Jim later won two Caps for soccer at Junior International level. He later played with the Claughan GAA Club in Limerick. Another Cork Minor with local connections is Ballincollig’s Eanna Lynch who is son of Ger Lynch and grandson of Sean Lynch of Ballynoe and formerly of Monanig, Bartlemy.
CONFIRMATION. Congratulations to all the young people who were Confirmed in Rathcormac last week.

EAST CORK JHL DIV 4.
Our Junior B hurlers travelled to Killeagh on Sunday afternoon for their 5th game in the division 4 league campaign. This was a game that took a while to get going, Damien got our opening point and Killeagh had one of their own which were the only two scores of the first 10 minutes.
Damien got the opening goal of the game in the 11th minute and that got the team going and points from Frank, Oran and Tom saw us into a 1-4 to 2 point lead. Seamus got our second goal in the 15th minute, and the lads then enjoyed a period of dominance, and our backs were doing very well to keeping the Killeagh forwards quiet.
Points from Frank, Oran, Damien and Seamus saw our lead extended before Frank got our third goal in the 26th minute. Killeagh responded with a point but a Frank struck for his second goal just before half time to see us in at the break leading on a scoreline of 4-8 to 3 points.
We started the 2nd half well again and had points from Tom, Frank (2), Oran and Adam extended out our lead. Killeagh got their opening goal in the 40th minute followed quickly by another point to their tally. Points from Tom, Frank and Ben kept the score board ticking over for us before Killeagh got their second goal. The lads finished well and added 5 more points Ben (2), Liam and two from Ryan in his first game back from injury saw us run out winners on a 4 21 to 2 5 scoreline.
Our next game in this league is a home match against St Catherines on Friday the 29th of May at 7:30pm in Pairc Na Bríde.
Team & Scorers: S O’Flynn, C O’Dowd, J Mannix, J Walsh, R Barry, A Hynes, J O’Sullivan, A Hayes (0-1), B Knox (0-3), T Macak (0-3), O Kielty (0-3), F O’Flynn (2-5), D Buckley (1-2), L Forde (0-1), S Ahern (1-1) Subs: J Powell, D O’Farrell, R O’Callaghan, B Hogan

In that game Cork were narrowly defeated.  On Sunday then at 4 o clock the Cork Hurlers meet Clare in their last Round Robin game. With three wins Ben O Connors side are guaranteed progression to the All Ireland series. So will Cork field a ‘second string’ side against the Banner? We’ll have to wait and see!
REBEL OG UNDER 16 HURLING. Bride Rovers 6-24
Charleville 1-08
Bride Rovers welcomed unbeaten Charleville to Pynes Pitch on Monday, 11th of May, for this P2 League match, played in beautiful conditions for hurling.
With the odds looking against us based on the league table, our P2 team started brilliantly and produced a superb display of hurling to overcome a fancied Charleville side. In goal, Ciarán held the line well and his puck-outs launched several attacks. The full-back line of Jack, Danny and Sean H were solid in defence, as they have been all season. The half-back line of the Scanlan brothers, Ollie and Cody, along with the prolific Nathan, were dominant and constantly drove the team forward. At midfield, Sam and Sean F worked tirelessly throughout. In the half-forward line, Cormac, Fionn L and Padraig piled pressure on the Charleville defence with constant running, shooting and hard work. The dangerous inside line of Fionn C, Killian and Liam combined for some wonderful scores, helping Bride Rovers build a commanding lead. Impact substitutes Henry, Cathal O’B, Cathal Q and Alex all made valuable contributions when introduced. This was a wonderful team performance from start to finish, and momentum is now building in a very positive way ahead of the championship in a few weeks’ time.

Under 13 hurling.
Bride Rovers delivered an impressive performance on the road on Tuesday evening, overcoming Youghal in an entertaining U13 league clash with a final scoreline of 8-12 to 2-19.

Bride Rovers U9 Blitz
Bride Rovers U9s put in a fantastic team performance at Páirc na Bríde on Saturday, May 16th, as they faced Aghada in an exciting hurling blitz, coming out on top after a lively and skilful contest.
From the throw-in, both teams showed great enthusiasm and determination, with Aghada opening strongly. However, Bride Rovers quickly found their rhythm, displaying excellent teamwork, sharp passing, and some fine striking to gain control of the game.
The Rovers’ defence worked tirelessly, clearing ball after ball and limiting Aghada’s scoring chances, while further up the field, the attacking players took their opportunities well, registering a series of well-taken points and goals.
Credit to Aghada, who battled hard throughout and never gave up, ensuring a competitive and enjoyable game for all involved. In the end, Bride Rovers’ teamwork and work rate proved decisive as they finished the stronger side and secured a well-deserved victory.
Overall, it was a great occasion in Páirc na Bríde, with both teams showing excellent skill and sportsmanship – a credit to their clubs and coaches.
