U14 East Cork LGFA Football Championship Winners
Youghal Under 14's Lady Footballers finished off the year on a high by winning the East Cork championship final yesterday evening against Aghada in Aghada.
This is a fantastic reward for this very talented group of girls who gave a huge commitment to Youghal GAA throughout the year. It was great to see them finish up with some silverware after all their work.
Well done girls from all of us!
Fé16 Premier 2 County Football Quarter Final
Eochaill Óg 3-11 Na Piarsigh 4-3
Tús maith leath na hoibre. A blistering first half display by the Youghal boys set a solid foundation to see them through to the county semi-final last night (Friday) in Farranree.
Two goals from Dylan Lyons and the meanest of defending, led by Jack Dineen and Diego Trossero et al., saw Youghal dominate the opening 30.
With Keelan Ansbro contributing 1-1; Jamie Lenane, James Coyne and Gearoid Geary all landed points from distance.
A fourteen point lead at the short whistle, 3-5 to 0-1.
Two quick points from Dylan early in the second half and it looked as though the Youghal boys would continue in the same vein as they finished the first half.
A Na Piarsigh purple patch really tested the Youghal mentality as they hit 3-1 without reply in a seven minute period. That reduced the gap to just 5 points midway through the second half.
Cian Galvin, Tadhg Reilly and James Coyne showed great leadership to stem the opposition wave, while Dylan Lyons (free), Jamie Lenane and Zack Skehan all added points to put the gap back out to 8 points.
Na Piarsigh converted a penalty late on, but by then time also was against them.
The Youghal boys now await the winners of Kinsale and Macroom in the county semi-final in a fortnight.
Scorers: Dylan Lyons 2-4 (1-2 frees), Keelan Ansbro 1-1, Jamie Lenane 0-2, James Coyne, Gearoid Geary, Zack Skehan (0-1 each).
Team: Dylan Hennessy, Jack Brennan, Diego Trossero, Daniel Walsh, Cian Galvin, Jack Dineen, Gearoid Geary, James Coyne, Tadhg Reilly, Finn Coleman, Dylan Lyons, Zack Skehan, Eoin Kennedy, Jamie Lenane, Keelan Ansbro, Conor O’Brien, Conor Coffey, Noah Bates, Marley Walsh, Donnacha Coleman, Eoghan Gleeson.
A note of sympathy
Everyone associated with Youghal GAA wishes to extend its sympathies to our underage secretary, Dan Metzger on the passing of his father, Horst. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan and his family here in Ireland and we also think of his family in his native Germany at this difficult time.
