MIXED STARTS FOR ADULT HURLING TEAMS

Disappointment for our Senior Hurling team, good start from our Junior A Hurlers and share of the spoils from our Junior B Hurlers, a real mix of emotions from the opening two weekends of hurling championships.

Our Senior Hurlers were beaten by two points against Courcey Rovers and one point by Blarney on Saturday last. These were close encounters and games one would feel could have and probably should have been won. Now it is down to our final game against Fr O’Neills to avoid the relegation game.

For our Junior A Hurlers, they got off to a perfect start last week with a three point win over Fr O’Neills and now face Carrig na bhFear in Round 3 on the last Sudnay of the month.

Meanwhile, our Junior B hurlers started out with a draw against Youghal and will need a win in the group to qualify for knockout stages.

We ask you for your support over the coming weeks for all our teams

Rebel Óg East Under 15 Division 1 Hurling Championship

Killeagh 4-10 Glen Rovers 1-7

Killeagh Under 15’s played their second match of the hurling championship away to Glen Rovers on Wednesday 3rd of August. We got off to a great start with two early points from Ben. This was followed by three goals in five minutes from John Ogbebor, Fionn and Callum. Glen Rovers responded with four points before Callum, Fionn and Ben scored further points to leave the half time score, Killeagh 3-5 Glen Rovers 0-4.

The second half started with a pointed free from Ben before a monster point from Cormac (who was outstanding all evening). The Glen responded with a goal and three points to reduce the deficit to six points. The lads responded after a ground strike from Fionn found the net, he followed with an excellent long-range point before two pointed frees from Ben completed the scoring.

This was a good result away against strong opposition. Best on the night were Oran (very solid at full back), Rian, Cormac (dominated and hurled a huge amount of ball at centre back) and Cathal in defence. Fionn got on top at midfield while Eoin, John and Thomas worked extremely hard in the half forward line.

Best wishes to Andrew who was injured in the first half, hopefully it’s not too serious.

Next up is Under 15 Football Championship versus St. Nicks next Wednesday (10th August) in St. Nicks.

Team: Cian O’Riordan; Tadgh Considine, Oran Cunningham, Rian O’Connor; Jack Coleman, Cormac Deane (0-1), Cathal Brennan; Andrew Brenner, Fionn Brennan (2-2); Eoin Roche, John Ogbebor (1-0),

Thomas Kelly; Alex Howey, Callum Power (1-1), Ben Geary (0-6, 0-5f). Subs: Billy Guerin, Darragh McDonald, Patrick Dineen, John Farquhar, Daniel Geary, Seanan McDonnell, Jacob Dignam

HARD LUCK TO BOTH CORK CAMOGIE TEAMS

It is tough to take to lose a game but to lose both All Ireland camogie finals by slim margins are always hard to take. All girls did their absolute best on the day and can hold their heads very high! Well done to all the Killeagh ladies involved agus béidh lá eile agaibh!
