U15
Our u15s wrapped up their league campaign last Wednesday night away to St. Catherine’s on a beautiful summer evening in Ballynoe. With a number of players missing due to holidays our u14s were called upon to bolster the squad and ten of the panel of eighteen on the night came from the younger age group. The first half was a tight affair as both teams settled into the game, and at half time there was only a point in it with Glenville leading by five points to four. St. Catherine’s came quickly out of the blocks in the second half and immediately scored a goal to run into a two point lead. The Glenville boys didn’t panic and two quick points from centre forward David Barry brought it back to all square. Substitute Liam Kelleher then made an immediate impact, fielding a great ball on the edge of square and finishing it to the net. That was the spur for the team to kick on and they put in a fantastic second half performance, scoring 4-13 to St. Catherine’s 1-1 to run out winners on a score line of 4-18 to 1-6. Sean O’Leary at full back and captain Billy Ryan marshalled the defence superbly, the centre field pairing of Shayne Curtin and Mike O’Riordan were able to link defence and attack and drive forward, scoring a total of 1-7 between them, and David Barry had a fantastic second half, finishing the game with an individual tally of 1-6. Each and every player made a significant contribution, it was a great team performance, there were a few great passages of play where the ball was worked all the way up the field at pace resulting in a score. It was a great way to finish off the league campaign and the result meant we qualified for a League shield final, waiting on this to be scheduled at the moment. Squad: L. Guichard, L. Doran-Goode, S. O’Leary, A. O’Reilly, E. Forde, B. Ryan, C. Sheehan (0-01), M. O’Riordan (1-03, 0-01f), S. Curtin (0-04, 0-01f), Z. Curtin, D. Barry (1-06) , R. Kelleher, D. O’Connor, S. Callanan (0-01), C. Buckley (0-02), D. McCarthy (0-01), J. Long, L. Kelleher (2-0).
Congratulations to the lads on the panel involved with Watergrasshill U15 hurlers on their East Cork league victory on Sunday, great to see this group of lads get their hands on some silverware.
U13
Glenville U13s played host to Carrigtwohill on a sweltering Saturday morning, the 16th of July. The visitors got off to a blistering start, getting 2 quick goals without any Glenville player putting a hand on them. Once our lads found their stride though they were able to pull ahead, the scoreboard putting us 3 points ahead at half time.
The halftime oranges provided by Tim Madden seemed to power the lads through the heat and a flurry of goals, including a double hat trick from full forward Billy Graham, put Glenville well out in front as the match progressed. Carrigtwohill scored some good goals, meaning that the hosts could never relax but the final score read Glenville 9-9 Carrigtwohill 6-9.
Glenville U11 footballers hosted Glanmire this morning in Fouhys in glorious sunshine. With 20 lads lining out and playing 2 very competitive games of 10 aside, there were plenty of skill on show and good scores taken by both teams . But the real positive to take from the games was the defending and turning over the opposing team with good tackling. Which sets us nicely for our trip to Killarney on Thursday to take part in the Munster activity day . Thanks to Glanmire for traveling.
U17 D1 Football Championship.
A brilliant advertisement for underage football in beautiful sunshine. Fluent, loads of skill and top quality scores. This game had it all. Glenville will be disappointed to let a 6 point lead slip late on but overall a draw was probably a fair reflection on the game. Nicks led by 2 points at the break and as Glenville clung to their tails. The second half saw some fantastic scores from both sides as goals from Ciaráin ó Leary and Sam Dennehy in quick succession seemed to put breathing space between the sides for the first time. As time ticked on Nicks clawed back which seemed like a few consolation scores until a late goal levelled things up.
It finished Glenville 3-14 St Nicks 3-14 in what was a thriller.
Next game in this round Robin championship is away to Midleton on Friday July 29th.
