Derek KielyMatch Report

DRAWN match in Cobh last Friday night in the East Cork Oil JAHC between two fierce rivals who gave it their all and with two players being sent off seemed strange in what was predominately a very clean game.

It ended on a knife edge and the on the 69th minute the whistle blew and a gigantic effort from Ita’s saw them over the line to the semi-final.

Both sides exchanged early points then Daniel Landers got the first of his three goals to give Killeagh the early advantage.

The sides were level five times in the match, the first of these on the seventh minute following three points from the majestic Seamie Harnedy.

Then Killeagh went on a bit of a run with six points to just a single reply from Ita’s with some fine scores from Aaron Walsh and Landers.

The last eight minutes of the first half certainly belonged to Ita’s pitting over seven scores with no reply and the three point advantage at the short whistle.

On the resumption Ita’s started where they finished the first half with Harnedy and Ciaran O’Brien punishing the Killeagh mistakes, but the Pilmore men lost Cathal Dean for a second yellow card offence.

Then out of the blue another Killeagh goal as Landers had too much strength and buried the ball into the Ita’s net, game on!

It took exactly 35 seconds for Ita’s to re-store parity with a stretching Padraigh O’Brien effort to hit the net and from the resulting puck out Killeagh lost Andrew Walsh with a straight red card.

Ita’s led by seven points on the 55th minute and then the Killeagh fight back began with a Darragh Motherway point two goals from Landers and one from Ger Collins and another score to level matters.

Harnedy was on target again in reply for Ita’s and deep into added time Padraigh Leahy pointed on the final whistle to leave this one level.

Ita’s will now play Lisgoold and Carraig Na bhFear will play Cobh this coming weekend.
