ST IITA’S are through to the quarter final of the East Cork Oil JAHC following their win over Killeagh in Youghal last Saturday evening.

It was a first half dominated by St Ita’s restricting Killeagh to just three points, two frees from Richard Long and Pauric Carroll and a point from play from first half substitute Dave Ogbebor.

The rest of the first half was all about the men in green with Seamie Harnedy scoring two goals one on the fifth minute, the second on the 19th minute, plus the Cork captain added three frees too.

Chipping in for Ita’s with the two other first half scores were Cathal Deane and Daniel Hickey to leave the men from Pilmore eight points clear at the short whistle.

Many would be forgiven for thinking this match was over at half time but they would be wrong as Killeagh to their credit kept battling and put in a strong second half performance.

Carroll pointed early on, but then Ita’s through Harnedy, Brian Sigerson and Ciaran O’Brien put over four unanswered points to lead by eleven  points with 18 minutes remaining.

Killeagh slowly but surely started to raise a comeback with four unanswered points before Harnedy restored the Ita’s challenge with two points on the 49th minute.

Killeagh through Motherway and Carroll responded with two points, then a goal from late second half substitute Luke Fogarty with his first touch made it a four point game.

The sides exchange points once again through Harnedy and Dave Ogbebor in injury time, but when Ciaran O’Brien pointed on the 63rd minute the game was well and truly in the bag for Ita’s.

St Ita’s will now play Erin’s Own in the quarter final for the Jamesey Kelleher Cup in two weeks’ time.
