ON what can only be described as a perfect night for football, Carraig na bhFear got off to the perfect start with two points in the opening 50 seconds against Dungourney in the East Cork junior 'A' football championship second round.
The opening score came of the boot of Carraig's Aaron Dorgan from play, then 20 seconds later Martin Hickey scored.
This was a very evenly contested first half after the opening early scores and event though Carraig na bhFear did add another point from a placed ball from Colm O'Reilly on the fourth minute, Dungourney responded with two excellent points from play from their centre forward James O'Leary on the 13th and 23rd minutes respectively.
Carraig na bhFear added one other point before half time from Dorgan, but Dungourney had the last say of the first half with a James McCarthy pointed free, to leave two points between the sides at the break.
The second half was a brilliantly close affair with both sides matching each other point for point. Carraig na bhFear opened the second half scoring with a point from Martin Hickey from play, but then following this score Dungourney went on a good run of three points without reply to level the match.
Two free's from Shane Hegarty and a point from Niall Motherway really put this game into the mixing pot. Carraig responded well with a score from Paul O'Keefe to regain the lead, but they were level again on the 44th minute when Shane Hegarty pointed.
The impressive Aaron Dorgan re-established the lead with a great score, but the sides were level again with ten minutes to go following a score from Dungourney's James McCarthy.
Carraig pushed on with two late scores to seal the win, but this game could have gone any way and the Carraig men will have to return to Lisgoold in round three, where they meet Ballinacurra.
