Junior A Football Championship

Castlemartyr 2-23 Russell Rovers 0-03

Castlemartyr had an easy win over Russell Rovers in the 1st round of the Junior A football championship in Youghal last Saturday. They dominated from the start and never looked troubled by the opposition at any stage.

Mark Bowens got the ball rolling for Castlemartyr with two points and would go on the score 1-3 from play in total. Further points from the impressive Brien O’Tuama, Brian Lawton and Maurice Hodnett put Castlemartyr in a commanding position approaching half time.

Just before the half time whistle Mark Bowens rattled of 1-1 to give the Reds a healthy cushion at half time. The second half was complete one way traffic with Castlemartyr scoring at will.

Brian Lawton found the net from his own rebounded penalty. Best for Castlemaryr on the day were Brian Smiddy who never put a foot wron from corner back, Evan O’Keeffe who fielded great balls around the middle of the field and Brian Lawton and Mark Bowens up front who tormented the Russell Rovers defence.
