Glenville GAA News I

t was with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Padraig Kelleher on Saturday evening last. Padraig was a cherished and well respected member of Glenville GAA served as player, officer and delegate to various boards over many years.

Padraig this year was Manager of the Glenville U16 football team and only Thursday night his team played and won its first game of the season under Padraig s guidance.

Eventhough Padraig was quiet in character he was held in the highest esteem by everyone who knew him. It is difficult to imagine the devastation that his family is feeling at this time. T

his tragedy will be sorely felt throughout the entire community at local and beyond the Glenville parish at all levels. We in the GAA community would like to extend our deepest condolences to Padraig s wife and family in this difficult time.

U16 football league

In driving rain Glenville and Sliabh Rua served up a great flowing game with plenty of quality scores on show. Sliabh Rua who are a combination of Ballymartle and Ballygarvan were full of running early on and looked to be well in control.

Glenville first score was a well taken point from Darragh o Callaghan who was a constant thorn in the Sliabh Rua side all night netted a great goal inside the opening 10 minutes. Sliabh Rua had 1-1 on the board early on but didn’t score for the rest of the half as Glenville went rampant up front, Shane Riordan goaling twice, the second a great finish and Glenville were 3-5 to 1-1 ahead at half time.

The second was hardly minutes old when three goals in three minutes changed the complexion of this game. Game on and playing against a strong wind made the task that bit more difficult. In fairness they stuck to the task and regrouped to eek out a great result.

The introduction of Josh Cooke and PJ Dennehy both U14 players , made a big difference. Kevin o Neill and Josh goaled and a final flourish of scores from PJ ,Darragh and Ian o Leary put us on the right side at the finish. A great start but keep the momentum and improvement going for the year ahead. Final score Glenville 5-9 Sliabh Rua 6-4.

The week ahead is still unclear but for definite the Junior Football game v Castlelyons and U16 football league v Brian Dillons are both called off as a mark of respect for the late Padraig Kelleher.
