SHL: Erin's Own Lose out

17 March, 2009

Erins Own 2-09 Na Piarsaigh 2-11

Erins Own lost out to Na Piarsaigh by 2 points in the Senior Hurling League tonight. This was a very close game throughout. Na Piarsaigh were 1st on the scoreboard before Ian Quinlan opened Erins Own account after 5 minutes. Both sides traded scores and if took a great save from Shay Bowen midway through the half to keep Erins Own within striking distance. The score at half time was 1-5 to 5 points.

Colm Coakley scored a fine goal early in the second half to put Erins Own in a strong position but the return of Aisake ó Halpin from Oz cost us dear when he scored his 2nd goal of the night to leave Na Piarsaigh in control of the game. To their credit Erins Own never gave up and substitute Mark Collins had a great effort rebound off the post but Michael Murphy reacted quickest to tap the ball to the net. This left just 2 points between the sides with time running out and despite all the late pressure coming from the Glounthaune side we were unable to score the goal required to win the game.
