Junior Footballers Pipped in extra time.

St. Patricks Day is certainly not a lucky date for us as far as junior football is concerned. For the third year in a row we have lost our opening Football Championship game on the National Holiday.

At Lisgoold last Thursday we went under to Dungourney on a scoreline of 2 10 to 1 12. We got a great start and were 1 2 to no score ahead but allowed Dungourney right back into the contest. Coming to the end of the hour we still held a one point lead but Dungourney got a levelling point and went on to beat us by a single point.

This was a preliminary round game. We now face Carrigtwohill in Round One of the championship proper. This game will be played in the next two weeks.

Minor Hurling.

The Minor Hurlers played two away challenge games last week. With honours divided. On St. Patricks day we travelled to Blackrock to play our first Minor Hurling game of 2011. The home side were far too strong and won easily by 4 13 to 1 4.

Then on Sunday morning we travelled the shorter journey to Ballyhooley to take on the Killavullen/Ballyhooley combination Blackwater Rovers. On a beautiful sun-drenched morning we won a very high scoring game by 5 10 to 0 10.

Our opponents were understrength because of the Annual Charity Blackwater Raft race from Mallow to Killavullen. Thanks to Kevin Collins for arranging this game. The players who played in these two games were Frank Hogan, Richard Foley, William Finnegan, Jack Kearney, Tadhg O Sullivan, Barry Collins, Cian O Connor, Owen Murphy, Gerard Healy, Padraig Noonan, Damien Buckley, Ryan O Connor, Jamie Buckley, Jacob Macak, Paul Dee, Liam O Leary, Stephen O Leary, David Quinn.

We have to play Cloyne and St. Catherines in the Minor Football League but neither club are able to play this weekend.

The Groups for the Minor Hurling League have been announced by Coiste na nOg and we are in a 7 team Group. Also in our Section are Youghal, Erins Own, Blackrock 2, Glen Rovers 2, St. Vincents and Cobh. Minor Hurling League games will be played during the month of April.

Senior Hurling.

We played our second Game in the 2011 Senior Hurling League last Sunday afternoon when we were away to Douglas. After a high scoring tie the home side won on a scoreline of 1 17 to 0 16.

We have two home fixtures coming up in the SHL. On Tuesday March 29th we have Blackrock as visitors at 6.45. On Monday April 4th we play Glen Rovers in Pairc na Bride at 7pm.

Club Development.

Last week was a great one for the Club. The Hurling Wall and Astro Turf arena was completed and it is truly magnificent. Great credit is due to the hard working Club Development Committee for the brilliant work they have put in over the last few months.

On last Saturday morning former Kilkenny All Ireland Senior hurler - and now full-time Leinster GAA Coach, Lester Ryan was on hand for a coaching course . The Course was very well attended by club coaches all of whom were loud in their praise for the new facility.

The lights were also installed at the weekend and this is a super resource to have for hurling at all levels within the Club. It is planned to have an Official Launch/Opening of the new facility in a few weeks when the general public of the whole parish will be invited.

At that time also details of Phase Two of our Development Plan will be announced. Fundraising Quiz. On Thursday March 31st a Table Quiz will be held in the Rathcormac Inn as part of our Fund Raising Drive for our current and planned Developments. Teams of 4 persons will be taking part and we ask for support from all our own members, players and supporters. The Questions wont be too difficult so it should be a good night.

Break A Leg.

Best wishes to all the members of the Shanowen Players Drama Group who present "Mother Knows Best" in Rathcormac Hall this weekend and the following weekend. Bartlemy Hall 1961 - 2011.
